Strength:
like that I can program the cd names in
Weakness:
when you take a cd out it turns the lights out, wish it would have went to the radio or stayed light up, the one switch I use to change the stations was on the far right side, a little unconvieniant I have had no problems with this cd player, its been in different vehicles with no problems. I like the easy to use buttons, and pretty user friendly. |

DEH-P2000
Strength:
Great price--For $250 I got the head unit, four Kenwood speakers, and installation in December 1999. The sound is excellent, and no external amp is necessary. The tuner is powerful and can be adjusted to pull in virtually anything or only the strongest stations. The only CD it has failed to play was a CDR that had portions of the recording media scrapped completely off. The preset equalizations are handy, though I wish tweaking them were a bit easier.
Weakness:
Many of the buttons are very small. I find it rather annoying that a) the clock does not stay on when the unit is turned off and b) the unit turns completely off if one ejects a CD without first switching to the radio. The latter would be less of an issue if the clock stayed on and the power antenna didn't raise/lower when a CD is inserted/ejected. Pioneer techs told me there was no way to wire it to keep the clock on; I didn't ask about the antenna issue. If the unit is off there is absolutely no light coming from it, which makes it difficult to turn the radio on at night. I find it awkward to change/seek radio stations while driving since the control for this is at the far right of the unit, quite a stretch even in my little Nissan Altima. The detachable face can be tricky to reinstall, though this may be from lack of practice. The sound and features are excellent at a surprisingly low price. It has some minor quirks, but I'd strongly recommend it. Hopefully Pioneer will address the clock and antenna issues in newer models. Similar Products Used: This blows away the factory unit I had in the Altima, and the sound quality is comparable to an Eclipse touchscreen head unit (and CD changer) I previously had in a Fiero. The Eclipse was dramatically easier to use, but it retailed in 1993 for about three times what I paid for the Pioneer in 1999, so that is to be expected. |

Strength:
Excellent sound quality for the price (you get the most out of low-to-midrange speakers). Plays CD-Rs flawlessly (as well as some CDs that other CD players are finicky about, like some of my Italian imports... this player plays *everything* without fuss). Easy EQ (EEQ) is a great feature that (don't look now!) was removed from the newer DEH-2100 model! Apparently the EEQ made the DEH-2000 too good for a lower-end product, as Pioneer now reserves EEQ for it's higher end (3100 on up) models. And for my final praise, the CD skip protection is superb. This deck just does not skip. I have only made it skip when driving over very rough train tracks at a rather moderate speed, and that's in a car that *badly* needs new shocks (so consider that a very extreme case of road bumpiness). Save for that, the player has not skipped on me, even with low-quality CD-Rs.
Weakness:
The detachable face feels like it's brittle (however, it's really not - mine's withstood two years of constant attaching and detaching). Also, the deck fails to resume playing a CD when you switch to the radio and then back to the CD - don't know if that's an inherent limitation in the resume play function or if it's just a little bug. The DEH-2000 is an excellent piece of hardware. It's an older model, but because of the negative changes Pioneer has made to the newer counterpart, the DEH-2100 (removed EEQ, and I think removed an alarm function too), you would do yourself good to pick the older model up if you happen to find one and are looking at that price range. Similar Products Used: I've mostly used factory decks, and the Pioneer naturally blows them away. I'm not the best judge of sound quality compared to other decks, but you can put plenty of weight in my comments about the deck's reliability, as I've used (read: abused) mine for two years now. |

Pioneer DEHP2100
Strength:
Surprising power from unit. I guess due to the Mosfet 45. 3 level Eq settings and ease of operation. Clean sound and good FM sensitivity.
Weakness:
None and at this price, one shouldn't expect any. For the price, the deck does have some good features. I would recommend to those who are not on a budget. The unit will drive good aftermarket speakers that are not power hungry. Similar Products Used: SOny XRC2300 |

Strength:
The Sound is awesome. The 45x4MOSFET amp does a great job pushing out sound on my 1985 Honda Accord STOCK SPEAKERS! Its amazing at how clear and how much bass I get with this deck. I also like the equalizer presets to fit my music.
Weakness:
I dont like the display. That illuminated display on the deck is really hard to see in sunlight and is completely gone in direct sunlight. I have also had problems with the CD TITLE function. I have tried to burn CDs with the burning program called NERO which allows me to place CD text on my cd (such as Titles, artists, and even song titles) that should be displayed on my deck display. But all I get is "CD TITLE" displayed. I also have no clue at how to set the clock on the deck. If anyone can help me with the CD TITLE function and the how to set the CLOCK, please email me at Gouki64@go.com I paid $120 for the p2000. It was a great find, and a great buy. I recommend it to anyone that wants to upgrade their car radio into a CD DECK. This is priced at a bargain for the quality it pumps out. The only problem is the illuminated display, setting the clock, and the cd title fucntions. Oh, and if you wanted to add an amp to this deck for additional power. This deck only supports a 2 channel amp because of the 1 pair of RCA outputs. If you are serious about car amps and sound, get a better deck with 2 pairs of RCA outputs to hook up a 4 channel Amp. Similar Products Used: This deck is a lot better over my 1985 cassette deck. |

Weakness:
Fragile faceplate Spend the extra $ for the P4100. It's well worth it. I paid $229 for mine and I'm impressed. Was looking at the Sony Xplod CDX-C7000X and I'm happy I didn't buy it. (with respect to Sony) I'll give it 5 stars after I've had it a little longer. (bought it last night) Check out Best Buy. Similar Products Used: Sony |
