Strength:
I push this receiver often by cranking up the volume and it keeps on working. Since it's not worth anything I am trying to blow up so I can replace it with a more modern head unit. Not having any luck so I might just replace it before it blows up anyway with a Nav system. Sound is relatively clean when volume is pushed to the limit even with 13 year old Toyota OEM speakers.
Weakness:
Lack of a removable face plate. This Kenwood CD player came installed in my Camry by the former owner so I don't know how old it is. It has been in my car for the entire 3 years I've driven it and it's still going strong. Never skipped or overheated. Display is still bright and all the LCD characters work. a few more watts would be nice very good standard cd player. have had it for over 6 years. no problems with it to date. still tweaking/swapping my speakers and subs, but the cd player remains constant. bought the newer version in 2003 for my other vehicle. will stay with kenwood in future. no problems there either. |

Strength:
Nice volume control. Looks sleek.
Weakness:
Ejector problems shortly after warrenty was up. Not worth the money, spend a little more get a better brand. Worked great for first year, after 1 year and 3 months, ejecter died completly, cd stuck in but still playing. For a retail price of $140, I wish I would have bought the Alpine I was planning on until the Kenwood when onsale Similar Products Used: Acura sterio |

Strength:
Average sound, presets suck. Very loud, if not overheating.
Weakness:
Serious heat and mechanical issues. Recurring glitchy skipping problems. Numerous heat disapation issues, for instance overheating after 20 minutes use during the summer. Playing at 18-20, which is normal, volume according to Crutchfield tech. Also cd ejecting mechanism completely died 1 day before warranty ran out, on a weekend... Kenwood's hours are M-F. Piece of sh*t. |

Best bang for your buck!

Uh, ummmm, the free intall kit didn't come with wire nuts. I extensively researched the latest high powered sub-$150 decks and had it narrowed down to Kenwood, Pioneer, and JVC. The JVC had a few bad reviews so that was out. Between the Kenwood and the Pioneer, the Kenwood had a few more watts RMS and was $10 cheaper to boot. I've had decks with detachable faces and never really used the feature, so that wasn't important to me. I also ordered some Kenwood 6 3/4" 3-ways for my '98 Frontier from Crutchfield. Ordered it Monday, had it on my doorstep Wednesday, and installed by Wednesday evening. WOW! Free shipping, free install kit, free instructions, free wiring harness. I paid $129 for the deck, and $69 for the speakers and it sounds like a million bucks! For less than $200 total, I was able to upgrade my entire system. So far no skips, no problems. Very impressive.
