HIGH VOLTAGE LOW IMPEDENCE OUTPUT. ESN SECURITY, IF STOLEN WILL NOT WORK. IF SENT TO ECLIPSE THEY KNOW WHO'S IT IS.
Weakness:
MUST HAVE AMPS TO POWER ALL SPEAKERS. VOLUME CONTROL WENT BAD. I SENT IT IN TO ECLIPSE AND THEY SENT ME A BRAND NEW 55040. I HAD TO PAY 170.00 AWESOME HEAD UNIT. CRYSTAL CLEAR SOUND.I WAS USING A HIGH END SONY BUT I HAD A PROBLEM BLOWING SUBS,I EVEN DESTROYED A KICKER ZR460 DUE TO LOW PREAMP VOLTAGE, WHICH PRODUCES CLIP. I CHANGED TO THE ECLIPSE AND HAVEN HAD A PROBLEM SINCE. YOU CAN GET A GOOD USED ONE FOR ABOUT $250. Similar Products Used: SONY, CLARION, PIONEER |

The sound quality is awsome, The display at night is very good, Every button is distingushed on it.
Weakness:
Can't see it in the daylight makes it hard to know what you are doing. Has everything on it that you need! Looks good at night. Sounds good with the 5V pre-out it has. Similar Products Used: Clarion |

Strength:
Great sound, useable options, many decks have useless features that never get used.
Weakness:
Skips after a few years, but most decks do. Great unit. I thought it was a bit expensive when I purchased it, but it was well worth it. I have it in a '99 Eclipse Spyder running it with a 600 watt Kenwood amp into a 10" Boston Acoustics sub and Kenwood speakers. The sound quality is extremely clear, but isn't thin like Alpine or Sony. The only problem I have is one that I've encountered recently. It skips ALOT. It didn't start skipping until the last few months. Which means it hardly skipped for about 3 years or so. Now, when I hit a bump or slow down (this is weird, but when I slow to a stop it skips like crazy) it skips. Similar Products Used: Alpine, Sony, Jensen, Pioneer. |

Sound Quality Power Clarity This is the absolute bomb! I replaced my Blaupunkt (damn thing was stolen)with a Clarion (damn thing was stolen), and had to replaced it with the Eclipse 5303R!!! It has the best sound I''ve ever heard come from car audio. It looks so simple, but has so much to offer... It was a little on the expensive side, but worth every penny of it! hard to read in the sunlight because of glare problems. I like mine I wish I could read it when the sun was hitting it but it rocks. Similar Products Used: Sony CDX-5860: Nice unit but no motorized face, less control. |

Eclipse 5203R
Strength:
Awesome sound quality. Tilting display. Ability to display clock and disc information at the same time. Ability to go from the 1st track to the last track backwards (fewer and fewer CDs are able to do this any more).
Weakness:
No pause button. No detatchable face. ESN is a nice feature, but what thief is NOT going to steal a stereo just because they can't use it? They're going to sell it to the first buyer that offers them $30 for it, no questions asked (like "does it turn on"?) I paid $550 over 3 years ago. That was a high price then, but now it is middle-of-the-road. Made my Alpine sound extremely thin and tinny (and I was a HUGE Alpine fan before buying the Eclipse). The soundstage is incredible. Each instrument seemed well defined and separated from each other. For the $$, I think it is one of the best CD players out there. Similar Products Used: Alpine 7939, Sony CDX-C90. The 5303R blew the Alpine away in SQ. The Sony sounded MUCH better, but I didn't like the Sony for several reasons (besides being twice as expensive). |

EVERYTHING. This unit is like buying a benz. Its built awesome yet doesnt look to flashy and others will often wonder why you didnt by that flashy pioneer. This unit has what u need no fancy garbage you dont. Its one of the best if not the best head unit on the market. I love this unit. Lots of other brands advertise 5 volts out etc but are at like 300ohms put a voltometer on em and youll prob get 3 volts most. This is 5.5v at a low 55ohms.
Weakness:
None this doesnt even skip in my car and i have a super stiff adjustable I paid $500 installed after tax and its worth every penny. Dont Similar Products Used: Alpine 7827 CD - Alpine was good but then again this is way better. |

This is the 2cd Eclipse product I have owned,so I know the reliability factor not to mention there warranty!!Anti theft feature was a strong selling point.rca outs.
Weakness:
Well,I guess you only get what you pay for is STILL true, alittle pricey but in reality not that bad!!!NO real weaknesses.. D/a converter must be of more than decent quality, because the sound is REALLY CLEAN,the DISPLAY is easy to read.Superb sound quality WHEN matched with high quality speakers and amp!!!!Highly recomended based on my past experiences with Eclipse there dealers are SUBERB, they really stand behind what they sell,it's quality and they know it!!! Fantastic sound, great features like the subwoofer level control, 5V outputs and the tilting display panel to name a few. ESN is way cool. AllI can tell you is it has not been stolen since I've owned it. Does that mean thieves are getting smarter or my alarm system is doing it's job? Maybe a little of of both!
Weakness:
Display is IMPOSSIBLE to see in bright daylight. Thought they improved that with the flourescent display in the newer models. Also, I am on my 4th 5303 since I bought it. A couple things were trivial. One was replaced because the clock would not keep time. Hey, with the 3 year wrranty, I figured why not get them to replace it. The next unit would not open the CD panel when the display panel was tilted and would not reset on power up/down. The third unit would not play a CD in the morning when it was cold unless I powered off, switched to radio and back again. I am on my 4th 5303R now and so far so good. But ..... this one skips at the hint of a bump. Needless to say, I'm dissapointed that I have had so much trouble. Thank God for the 4 year warranty! I'd rather have a one year warranty and CD deck that sounds this good and is realiable. Because of my trouble, I cannot recommend this unit. The guys at my shop said they have had similar experiences with quality control on the 5303R specifically. Can't say about other models. I give it 5 stars for features and sound quality. The only unit I have heard that sounded better was a McIntosh head unit that had dual or quad Burr brown D/A converters. (There is a Clarion High end unit has the same internals.) I give the Eclipse 5303R one star for reliability ..or in my case, lack of reliability. Hopefully, your mileage may vary! Similar Products Used: Clarion, Sony - Blew away all previous decks. |

Strength:
This unit is well layed out. Great sound quality. Very eaisy to operate while driving. Three RCA outs at 5 volts allows long cable runs with no distortion or noise even if the outs are split. The display is very easy to read.
Weakness:
If this unit is like the other Eclipses that I have owned I don,t expect to get three years out of it. All of the head units that I have owned get very heavy use at high volumns. I own several cars and have not had long use out of other head units either. I gave this unit the higest rating because I have used no better unit and have owned quite a few and paid more for less. I use this unit with three amps Alpine F-400 (60x4) driving MB Quart 6" 1/2 and Boston Acustics 6X9 , f-300 (40x4) into four MB Quart, and Alpine MRV-F253 bridged 120 x2 into Boston Acustics 6" w/tweeter and 300 x1 12" Custom PSB Series III SUB. A clear and clean output to all amps with sound so crisp it sounds live. I would not reccommend this unit for anyone that is not willing to spend the money to match it with similar quailty componets or the sound improvement will not be so appearent. I have installed Eclipses ( my old fixed ones )into Stock or low to mid end systems and the improvement at any other volume then low was not worth the cost if you had to buy a new unit. If you want the best buy one. Similar Products Used: Eclipse EDC413, EDC415, Denon, Alpine, Kenwood. |
