Clarion DXZ715
Strength:
Nice display. Clean sound. User friendly.
Weakness:
The Clarion DPH910 Digital Processor that match with it doesn't seems to be impressive enaugh This headunit is great...!!! It produce very clean sound too. Its actually about same as HX-D10 which it comes with built-in amp which HX-D10 was a pure deck. |

Strength:
24 bit DAC, 4V preouts, 3 band parametric eq, phone mute (invaluable for me), seperate antennae and remote turn on leads
Weakness:
Can't adjust settings from the remote control The first time I listened to the unit in my car, it was resting on my gear shifter with 3 pairs of RCA leads running outside the car to the boot. And it blew me away and sent shivers down my spine for almost an hour! The clarity, the volume, the asthetics, it was all unbelievable that it was in my car! Took me another 10 minutes to compose myself enough to unhook it and install it properly. Then I spent another 2 hours just listening :) Couple months later and it still send shivers when I crank it, this is one awesome unit. And the little men...forget dolphins, the chicks absolutely LOVE the little men! Similar Products Used: Nothing I've used compares to this unit |

SQ all the way, You cant beat the crispness of this unit. You tweak to your hearts content!
Weakness:
The protective case. Display could be brighter. If your looking for flash graphics and gimicks, then you had best look eleswhere! If you are like myself then SQ is your thing, in that case you found the right deck. This model was replaced with the DXZ925 for 2002. Here are the specifics: -PRO- - Detachable, motorized, fold-down face - Aluminum faceplate - Multicolor display with screen savers - CD/MD changer controls - TV tuner/EQ/DSP controls - Beat EQ with 3-band equalization, adjustable bass and midrange center frequencies, and tone bypass - Zero-bit detector mute circuit - Magi-Tune+ tuner - 18 FM/6 AM presets - 2 sets of 4-volt preamp outputs - Non-fading 4-volt subwoofer outputs with level control - Clock - Auxiliary inputs - Wireless remote - Two 24-bit D/A converters - 18 watts RMS/50 peak x 4 channels If you have never listened to the difference that 24-bit D/A converters bring to your listening experience then compare before you buy(the norm is 1bit). The number of outputs on this thing are fantastic(see above)you can run a mp3 player into this...minidisc...your choice. I have the CLARION VCZ625 6 DISC DVD/CD/CD VIDEO/MP3 plugged into it via the CeNet controller, I could almost live in my car now! You have several presets like -Bass Boost-Impact-Excite-User Custom and Tone Bypass. You can adjust the sound to suit the interior space of you car...plus it allows you to cut off at certain frequencies! I could go on and about the virtues but lets look at what I dont like! -CONS- Firmly grasp plastic case in hand of choice(take out the face first..duh..) extend arm in rapid motion opening hand thereby removing yourself of the frustration that is the case that you are supposed to use with this unit! Do yourself a favor and go buy the soft sided StingerFacePlateHolder. It can be rather unnerving dropping a $400+ faceplate onto concrete. I guess the engineers at Clarion decided that the Faceplate was so nice that it should never be used...because man...its tough just to open the plastic case to get to it! When you do get it open...it comes flying open...and there goes your faceplate. The display could also be a little brighter during the topsun of the day...but its a minor complaint. Bottom Line.Go Demo One. See For Yourself.Compare it to the Alpine and smile all the way to the bank! Similar Products Used: Alpine Pioneer Kenwood |

Strength:
Clarity and Clean 4V Output. Price range as I feel the Alpines are priced too high for equal performances. 24bit DAC
Weakness:
Nothing I was looking for a set to replace my stock radio and after spending hours comparing technical specs and prices, I settled on this Source Unit. No regrets. Very clean sounds and stylish looking. The 24 bit DAC really shows its strengths. I found it to be a rather easy set to configure with lots of practical features to do some sort of tweaking. Others complained that it doesn''t default back to the Volume controls after adjustments but I found that as a plus, as I wold listen for a while to the tweaks that I had made. If it defaulted back to Volume after some seconds delay, I find that I spend much time, just pressing the buttons to adjust the system to the way I want it to sound. Great Sound and nice lighting effect. You can change the button colors from green or red. Nice Face plate with real aluminum plate. Input Aux and CeNet controller for add on of DSP/EQ/Crossover. The Sound Quality is amazing from this headunit because of the 24bit D/A.
Weakness:
CD is very sensitive to scratches and will make the cd skip. Does not have features like the pioneer P1R, no crossover for each channels No time alignment controls. You have to purchase additional add on for these features. Great headunit... I have previously owned the pioneer P1R but the sound quality is just as good. For $188 you can''t go wrong. The best investment ever made. Strength:
-No ramdom skipping, like my Eclipse 5301, 5504, and 5506. -the zero bit mute is a good feature. This feature allows no noise to added in between songs. As quite like the Pioneer P1R. -Solid construction, attractive design, easy of installation, very good features: EQ controls, menu''''s, and FM receptiion
Weakness:
The face may be clean and tidy design, but like most aftermarket head units very small buttons are difficult to operate when driving. The best head unit for this was the Blaupunkt line. -One of the biggest gripes I have had with my Clarion is with Clarion!!!!!!!! The customer service is awful, and this is not the word/s I want to use!! -The panel cover case is difficult to open. When I was in the market for my next head unit, I was very particular. I chose the Clarion line because it was known to make reputable products. And, I did not want to spend a small fortune for a head unit. The main features I was looking for in a head unit: 24 bit DAC, motorize front panel, zero bit mute, minimum 4 volt signal output, and over 100 db signal to noise ratio. Everything else was a bonus. My parameters were to consider an exceptional performing head unit with out paying too much for performance. Most units that had the 24 bit dac were priced well above $550 range. I could have gone with HX-10, which does not have a built in amplifier, but it costs about $450! (The famed and old 9255 model, that uses Brown-Burr 24 bit DAC Ebay prices around the $600 mark.) I have a external amp already, which is the JL Audio 300/4. There is a switch on the DXZ715 for internal or external amplification. The head unit is now accompanied with the dsp 7500 ultizing the ce-net cable. This has allowed the system to drastically reduced the floor noise and ground loop noise problems, which I have been experiencing since I have started in the car audio arena. This unit has preformed excellent. The motor to the faceplate has not winced or shutter. Cd motor of accepting and rejecting the cd has a nice smooth "feed" feel. Currently, I am getting to understand the "pro" settings of the dsp. So far, I''''ve set the sound system up in the easy mode. So far it sound great. I am thinking of competing next season.
