Strength:

Much better than a CD changer

Weakness:

No memory,no way to jump to track 101 without clicking next , next ,next. No way to switch it to DISC or directly to radio without scrolling through all of the different output methods ( 3 FM, 2 AM 1 AUX 1 DISC)

For what it does,,, it's great. There are some things AIWA could have done better, but at the time it came out it was the first and the cheapest.
I hear people's reviews talking about alot of skipping. Yes,, mine does it sometimes but it is directly related to how the CD is burned. I have a HP8X burner in my PC and I have used TDKs and now Memorex. Sometimes I burn one and it skips alot and then I can go back and burn the same songs on a different CD and it works fine. I can't explain it other than to say that when you are burning a CD on your PC, shut down everything except Explorer, SYSTRAY and the CD burner application, so that nothing pulls power from the burner.
Overall, I have to say that I am so glad that I took the plunge and bought this player last FALL. It will skip sometime, depending on your vehicle, but it is well worth the hassle of having 170 songs on one CD and not having to carry around 20 different ones or deal with a changer in the back. I am sure that the newer ones from AIWA and other makers are much better than the first generation ones, so I would recommend gettting one if you are leaning that way.

Strength:

+ Great looking design and Awesome colors. At night it has a very nice blue glow. The VU-meter
+ Plays everything: CD Audio, CD-R, CD-RW. Reading of MP3 cd's takes about 10 seconds (CD-R or CD-RW), which is acceptable.
+ Almost never skips. When going off-road it skips, but which doesn't?
+ Remote control works fine.
+ Very complete functionality. Even Next/Prev Album.
+ Display can show the time, filename, ID3 artist, ID3 title, time elapsed or Album name.

Weakness:

- The provided cable didn't had connectors on it (like ISO connectors). I had to buy a seperate cable for it (some Sony variant)
- Remote control doesn't work when the sun shines directly on the stereo (this is only when I'm driving with the roof off and the sun comes from a certain angle...)
- I've had an "ERROR 03" 2 times now. By ejecting and inserting the CD everything was fine.

I'm very glad I bougth this great product.
Ofcourse this is the first car unit with MP3 support, so it has some child-deseases. Future products are bound to get better.
Since I have almost all my music on MP3 cd's (about 60 cd's) it's much easier to use these directly in a player. At home I have a portable MP3 cd-player (Genica/MP-Trip) and in my car this AIWA. When I would want to use a CD-changer in my car, I'd have to burn quite some audio cd's.... So that is not an option for me.

I advise this product for everyone who has a lot of MP3's and likes to play them in his car for an acceptable price (mine is from eBAy).

PiNO.

Strength:

The time shows all the time- a feature that is not available with the Sony MP450.
-ID3 tag support
-Nice face plate case (the Sony is bigger and bulkier)

Weakness:

-remote control doesn't work
-constanltly skips and pauses on every MP3 CD-R that I tried (not as bad with the Sony)
-the MP3 player does not work at all in extreme heat (same with the Sony)
-when you turn it off it does not go back to the same place in the song where it was turned off. The Sony supports this feature.
-You can only use the random feature on single folder and not the whole root. The Sony supports this feature

This product has so many problems that it should not even be sold or purchased for that matter. I traded mine in for a Sony CDX-MP450 and am experiencing less problems. The Sony also has better features and is only slightly more expensive than the Aiwa.

Similar Products Used:

The Sony CDX-MP450 is a much better player but still has many technological limitation in the reading of the data from the CD-R or CD-RW. I would recommend purchasing a four year warranty where you can trade in the unit until you get one that works well. With the Best Buy warranty I traded in my Aiwa-CDCMP3 for the Sony w/o any hassles. I got a first generation Sony which has many problems and will trade it in again when they make a new revision of the product. Eventually they have to get it right (at least I hope so)

CDC-MP3-I think there should be a class action lawsuit against Aiwa

DON'T BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had two CDC-MP3 units. The first one I sent back because of the skipping and over heating. But because they were back ordered it took 3 months to get another one. Now the second unit is doing the same thing as the first one. And now it's to late to return it to the seller.

I burned a CD with mp3s and never took it out of the unit (after all its got 10 hours on it). It played great. Then as time went on the CD started skipping. Finally it just quit working. The latest problem with the unit is when any CD is put in gives back a code 3. I sent it in to be repaired and fresh back from repair it will not play mp3's (error 3) My belief is that the CD's are getting hot inside the unit and destroying the copy of the mp3.
Do your CD's get hot in the unit? I do play it loud around 60.

I think we should get a class action lawsuit against Aiwa like the one against Philips! What ever you do don't waste your money like I did. There are many that have the skipping and over heating problems like me. Like others have said CDC-MP3 has some good features But MP3 CD is not one of them! This unit is in repair right now.

I'm talking with Aiwa head complaint person right now. If you would like to complain call Judy Foster at 1-800-321-2492 Ext- 3632.

And please post here if you are having problems. Even if it's the same as everyone else! That way it will be easier to get a lawyer to look at a class action lawsuit.

Also send me a copy of your problem. I will be sending a request to Sheller, Ludwig & Badey, P.C a law practice that focuses primarily on the representation of individuals and classes suffering adiverse range of injuries resulting from medical treatment to defective products and machines to unfair business practices.
There the ones that won the Philips CD class action suit.

Strength:

Plays MP3s.

Weakness:

Plays MP3s out of order unless you name them numerically (i.e. 01-song.mp3).
Can't play random over multiple "albums"
Elapsed playing time with VBR mp3s is

The stereo as a whole is decent, but not spectaular. Radio reception is slightly worse than my previous radio. CD playing is flawless. MP3s on CDRs is a little flawed, but its still really nice to have 13 albums on one CDR.

Strength:

When it worked, it played MP3s. 10 hours on a disc. What more could you want?

Weakness:

You would want it to work for more than 8 months. The unit skips very frequently. Sometimes several times a minute. Even when sitting in the driveway with the engine turned off.

This unit worked well - for 8 months. Then it decided to stop playing CDs. It never would play CD-RWs, and would only play high-quality CDRs.
