Features, optional remote, sound quality, price.

Occassionally volume goes to max because of something else broadcasting the same frequency.

Replaced my stock am/fm/cassette. I got the optional wireless remote for another $35 or so. Detachable face. Can optionally connect to some Sony non-RF CD changers.

The tuner and cassette both perform well and sound very good. The alpha-titling for radio presets is a cute touch. However, similar to the presets, too bad they aren't retained after the battery's disconnected. Does any brand have that feature (non-volatile memory/settings) yet? Anyone? . . . Anyone?

Because it has wireless remote capability, every now and then (maybe once per month) I'll be driving along and my volume will rapidly increase to max level. Some other broadcast transmission is obviously sending the same frequency as my remote's "volume up" button. I just have to turn it off, wait until I think I'm far enough away and turn it back on then quickly crank the volume back down. It's annoying when it happens, but not enough to regret the purchase. The price of wireless technology...

Since this is a 1999 model you may have trouble locating one, but if you do I'd recommend picking one up for $125 or so. This is my second Sony car receiver and I've been very happy with both of them.
