I've been a Zapco advocate since the late 80s when I owned an S-80 and M-80. Zapco amps have always been my favorite sounding amp. I presently own an SX with 2 Z150s and a Studio 500. I run a Z150 mono on each door - 8" Yamahas for mids and USD comp horns for the top end. Solen caps and coils are used in the 18dB/oct passive. The Studio 500 on two Soundstream 15s aperiodic. These amps are the closest thing to home highend available. The unregulated supplies in the 150s allow the amps to put out far more than rated power when you give them what they need. The high slew rates, low distortion and damping factor allow the amp to respond to fast transients flawlessly. With a warm midrange and smooth highs, you can't beat the 150s. On the bottom end, there's nothing like the gut wrenching power available from this amp. |

I currently am using two Studio 204 amplifiers. I have enjoyed these amps from day one. I have access to many different amps and the Zapcos are my first choice. The amps play extremely clean and the sound is much more natural sounding than other amps I have tried. My only regret is that I didn't put the extra money in and get the Z series. |

Zapco makes one helluva amp. owned z300s2vx (old version of studio300x) I used it to power 2 - orion xtr15s. Just recently I bought a z150c2vx (old version of z300c2-slx) and a z150s2 (old version of studio150). very high damping factor, and can handle highly reactive loads. I tried bridging the studios to 2 ohm and the amp still stays cool. highs are very clear. one great company that makes great products. wouldn't change it for any other amp! |

Pretty much everything about it is great!
Weakness:
I only have two complaints... I haven't had this amp for a very long time, but so far it is absolutely the best amp I have ever heard! To me it seems to put out a lot more power than it claims and the SQ is amazing. I have the rear channels bridged to my IDQ 12" and the front channels power my Crystal 3-way component set. I was debating on whether to buy this amp or an xtant 404m. I definately liked the looks of the xtant better but when I listened to both of them the zapco killed it in my opinion. I looked into both for a long time, a lot of people suggested the xtant, but when I listened to them I knew the zapco was the way to go. I can't wait to buy another one! Similar Products Used: Cadence, Kenwood, Autotek...i have not OWNED xtant, but listened to both a lot and the zapco beat it in my opinion |

Zapco Studio 100X
Strength:
This little amp has a built in LP crossover as well as a pair of HP outs, so you don't even need an external, noisy (unless you pay $$) active x-over. The LP and HP x-overs are INDEPENDANT, and VARIABLE!!! Also, the LP has a 12/24 dB per octave selector switch. The other Studio series dont have all these functions (the 300X comes close, but only has normal line outs for another amp). SO, if you're on a budget, and you cant afford getting an extra crossover, then get this amp, good subs and box (you better build that box right!) and another Zapco amp for your highs (either the Studio 100 or 150) and you've got a perfectly balanced system. I do recommend at least a 7-band eq.
Weakness:
I haven't really found any yet, except for all amps with the stupid gold-plated screw-type connections... When I received this little white amp, I was worried that it wouldn't be powerful due to its size. I hooked it up to 2 IDQ12's in a spare tire well box in a Cirrus and I nearly lost my mind. It hits up to 120dB easily but it's not loudness I was really after. I also have an ART dual 30 band eq (studio rackmount powered by a small power invertor) which I boost the 25Hz slider all the way up! After creating test tones with Cool Edit Pro and burning a cd, I was able to find that tones low as 15Hz were as loud as 30Hz (with a modified meter - on C weighting, which isn't your human ears...). I have impressed many people with this setup that own a PPI PC2200 with two Fosgate 12's, my brother who has a US AMP 150 and IDQ12, and other setups with fosgate amps and JL subs. Similar Products Used: Good as U.S. Amps. |

Awesome styling, Great Power, Clear Signal, Awesome
Weakness:
NONE Awesome amp. I have it pushing my 4 Eclipse 5x7's in my truck and I have to turn the gain all the way down because it's just too freakin loud. Definitely one of the best amps out go run out and get it now. Similar Products Used: I had a Kicker ZX460 in my car for about a month before I decided to go Zapco. I'll never go back. The music is so much clearer and louder then with that Kicker the Zapco is just the greatest amp out. |
