Bang for the buck. This is my NUMBER 1 issue buying amps or any audio equipment for that matter. For the 115 bucks I got in return a great looking/performing amp that should have cost at least 200. It has variable controls, so control freaks can adjust their system how they see fit. Runs cool, no heat issues or protection shut-off concerns. The fact that peak power could jump to 1100W is a plus. Soft turn on.
Weakness:
Are they serious with needing an 80 amp fuse? Sony notes that at rated input 14.4v @ 2 ohm, current draw is about 50 amps. That makes it about 70% efficient, which is decent. But why the extra 30 amps? Speaker level input harness uses either 20 or 22 awg wires. Too small for my liking, so I swapped 18awg into it from the back and superglued it together. Footprint a tad larger than I like to see, but I think it plays a large part in dissipating heat. It still fits under my backseat thought, barely. The biggest knock against this amp is more or less a lack of support from Sony. They don't issue test results or data sheets like upper quality companies do. Even when I asked after I registered my amp with them, still uncooperative. Would not even tell me they individually test each one before shipping to dealers. This is supposed to be the biggest electronics company in the world, and they quite possibly have the worst buyer/product support. If I had to do it over again, I would not have bought Sony. Even though I've never experienced anything wrong with this amp, I just don't trust them or any of the products they make anymore. Using it with a 10" Pioneer Premier SPL sub. Fine looking amp, better than the old red+black design, keeps all class D components: 50-300Hz LP crossover, 10db boost @ 40Hz, speaker level inputs, one set of pre-amp outputs. Official specs say 250W @ 4 ohm, 500W @ 2 ohm, though no proof of this. More on this in weaknesses. Most watts per dollar, thanks in large part to Etronics. Amazing internet dealer. No technical problems yet. No distortion, even at high volume. It has not gotten warm, let alone hot. Nothing has cracked, broken or scratched. Similar Products Used: Hifonics, Jenson, Pioneer |
