Strength:
This Amp has awsome flexibility
Weakness:
NONE NONE NONE When I first got it I was only just getting started setting up my system so I had 1 tubed 10in. sub and my usual interiors 6X9 polks in the rear and 6 1/2 polks in the front. The polks arent the greatest speakers but they held me over. This amp is nothing short of quality. Ive had others and this amp rocks for running your interiors. My original configuration I bridged the 1 sub on 2 chanel and ran my fronts and rears on the other 2 channels it was so loud and hit so hard most people with twice the power could not believe that was all I had. Anyone who complains about noise with this amp has no clue about wiring if you set up your wiring corectly and dont skimp on RCA you will be pleasantly surprised . I have just bought the fosgate H1000a2 power and audiobahn AW1200 and words cant describe how hard this hits but my neighbors can HAHA. All fosgate amps are winners if you asked me and any of my friends go with fosgate for amps you wont be disapointed. Similar Products Used: MTX, ORION HCCA Pheonix Gold. This amp blows them away. |

Strength:
Powerful
Weakness:
Horrible sound quality, alternator noise even with proper grounding, big and clunky, ugly as sin. This amp is a monstrosity. The sound quality is well below average, and is very noisy. It picks up even the slightest alternator noise. I dropped in a PPI 4400 in its place, using the same wiring, and it's 100% noise free. I thought the first 400a4 was defective, but a 2nd one yielded the same results. STAY AWAY FROM THIS AMP. Similar Products Used: PPI, Soundstream - RF can't hold a candle to these guys. |

Strength:
Clean, high quality power, never gets too hot, I run 4 way pioneer 6x9's and my MB Quart components up front... i keep the gain at literally... literally... 10%. I had it at 25% and blew the Quarts... Rockford makes an excellent 4 channel amp.
Weakness:
The crossover isn't really user friendly but it provides for less distortion than a lot of other amps out there. Rockford end caps are a pain in the azz but makes for a clean install. The amp is generally too powerful to use for most audio applications at full power. When i say that, i'm talking about running interiors, not subs. Interiors need squat for power. Plus if the gain is turned all the way up, my guess is you'll get some engine noise. Similar Products Used: PPI, MTX Truthfully, every audio company out there decided about 3 years ago that they weren't really going to create junk anymore... The sound is clean and realistic but so is every other amp out there now with a Signal to Noise Ratio of 100 and greater. |

Strength:
price, sound, cleanliness
Weakness:
it is fairly large This is really the first amp I have bought in many years (read: I am a total newbie), and I must say that I really researched my purchase. I am completely happy with this amp. I am running 4 infiniti Kappas (5" somethings in the doors and 6x8's in the back) with a self powered bazooka and a alpine cd deck. Anyhow, surely not an outstanding setup , but I am totally satisfied. The amp, which came 2 years after the rest of the stuff, has added a ton of sound/power, and asolutely no distortion. It added only clean sound and really brought out the abilities of the rest of the stereo stuff. Similar Products Used: none to compare |

Strength:
Good looking, easy to operate, clean power, versatile
Weakness:
None I have had this amp running my polk components and coaxials for about 2 months now and have had no problem at all. I have ALWAYS had Rockford amplifiers in my cars. I love them. The 400a4 is rated to do 50 watts rms @ 4 ohms into 4 channels. The birth certificate on mine said that it was tested at 552 watts (all channels driven at 2 ohms.) This comes out to about 70 atts rms at 4 ohms into 4 channels. Rockford has been know to underate their amps, and have done so for years. I would definitely choose the 400a4 again if I had the choice to do it all over. Similar Products Used: None |

Puts out clean sound at low volumes.
Weakness:
Distorts at higher volumes. Lots of engine noise even after wired profesionaly. Before i got this amp i thought rockford could not be beat. I was really let down. Save your money and get something nicer, cleaner. I mean it has power but not near as clean as i thought it would be which sucks because i was really excited about getting this amp. I push 4 6 inch cerwin vegas on the interior and before this i had a 200a4 which is 25x4. That amp put out cleaner power then this one. I figured the 400a4 has to an 100% improvment in volume. Well it wasent. If you want something good stick to macintosh or ppi amps. They cost more but you wont regret it. Maybe i will melt this one down and make a can opener out of it :o) or it could make a nice paper weight. Similar Products Used: Honestly. I have had a kenwood 25x4 that sounded better. |

Strength:
Very Powerful, underrated power, 400 Vs 600 Whatts Very good W per £
Weakness:
Whining noise Well, when I first got the amp i was really happy with the sound quality but something seems to have developed somehow and now there is a definate whining in the signal somewhere that disappears at high volumes. Powering Focal 165KS components and RF 12" XLC subs at 2 ohm though very easily and sounding very good apart from that whining which i intend to let RF look at when they come to my sound off soon. Similar Products Used: Kenwood, alpine, others. More power, sounds better. |

Strength:
The amplifier's heatsink gets super hot, which means that it is dissipating heat very well. Keep in mind that the job of a well-designed "HEAT"sink is to dissipate or draw heat away from the sensitive electronic parts. I have pushed it hard in the 95 degree florida heat for hours and hours and it never shut down. This amp is able to produce large of amounts of power for extended periods of time. I just love it.
Weakness:
The built in crossover wasn't very flexible. I think it's 80 Hz low pass. But I prefer to use 120 Hz low pass. Much more efficient than other amps I have used before. I have it bridged to two channel mono pushing two JL Audio 10w1-4's. I can get some serious SPL out of them, but what impresses me the most was the amp's sound quality. The bass is very tight and impressive. I'm looking for another 400a4 for my mids and highs. Maybe one of the folks who posted a bad review here can sell me theirs. These amps are getting hard to find and more and more expensive as they become scarce, but I highly recommend it for anyone who can find it for around $200. Similar Products Used: Much more efficient(louder) and much tighter bass than other amps I have used with my subs. I have had both a Sherwood and Orion pushing the subs in the past. |

Looks good, caps hide the wiring well, allen wrench hook ups, comes with a fuse.
Weakness:
It sucks, it gets hot enough to boil water, distorts easily, doesn't get that loud, and starts to smell like it really is burning up. I'm revising my old review from before. This amp is really mediocre. It gets hot enough to burn your hand, even at low volumes and it distorts very easily when you turn it up a little.
