PB480
Strength:
Cheap, nice looking, plexiglass top with LED indicators.
Weakness:
Doesn't give out its stated power. Still gets pretty warm. (If sub wired at one ohm, it sounds awesome, but overheats and shuts down after 5 minutes.) I first bought this amp because it sounded like a deal. $160 (Canadian) for a 500W amp when brand name amps of this size go for double the price. I took a chance and used it for about a year. It performed well and hit the bass decently. But after about a year and a half, I decided to make a new sub box more suited for my sub. It sounded even better, but for some reason was overheating and shutting off. I then figured out that my sub (a dual 2 ohm voice coil) was wired in parallel giving a total ohms of one. This is hard on the amp considering it is only meant to handle 4 ohms bridged. So I rewired my sub in series and had it at 4 ohms. It was now set up perfect for my amp. However, i was very dissapointed. The sub now barely moved and did not seem to get enough power. This amp does not get its stated watts. It probably only gets about 75 watts at 4ohms.
