Cheap. Enough power for everyday use.
Weakness:
Poor technology!!!! Not brigeable I am in Canada and I have a Pyramid PB-110PX amplifier. By looking at the specs it is the same as the PB-101PX in the states. Please save yourself a lot of grief and do not buy this amp. If you have boughten it don't worry about the $50, through it out. When I hooked the amp up, I used the RCA's and everything seemed to be alright. Untill I started the car and drove away. There was a lot of engine noise and interference. I thought it was my ground and made another, but the problem stayed. After talking to my teachers in my electronics coarse I decided to try the high level inputs. The noise was deminished but still there. I decided to tolerate it for awhile. Another problem arose when I had everything hooked up. The only way I could get sound was to short out my right side speaker wires and only connect the negative on the left. However, because of the short my deck cut out when I turned the volume up too high. I was screwed either way. I was able to tolerate this untill I picked up a sub and then learned the amp is not even brigeable. After a while I got smart and picked up a Jensen A300HLX. It only cost me $100 and it works much better. It has more power, built in crossover, bass boost, bridgeable, and is tri-mode capable. It is a class AB amp with a mosfet power supply. Please spend the extra $50 and save yourself the grief. |

Strength:
It was cheap, and did the job. It's still holding up all that dust from landing on my shelf now.
Weakness:
The name says it all, it's Pyramid and you aren't getting a great amp. Still being a student on a budget I bought this second Pyramid amp to add to the PB-442 I already owned but had put on the shelf. This was to be the all powerful Sub amp for my shiny new sub box bought second hand. The sub box had 2 Orion XTR 10 (turns out they are DVCs) but was wired for only single voice coils it appears. They were hooked up wrong, foam surrounding broken from the bracket, and now underpowered. Suprisingly this combination worked ok. It wasn't great but who would have expected it to be? I had it in an S-15 extended cab pickup truck so I didn't need a lot of power anyway. Similar Products Used: PB-442, though a slightly different amp purpose in my case. |
