Strength:

600 clean watts, nice looking, doesn't get warm

Weakness:

none

I'm using this amp to power 2 12" MTX 8000 (4 ohms), and they pound. Never gets warm, even with the volume turned up high for a long period of time (over an hour). I was running this amp into 2 ohms to a 10" diamond subs and did get kinda warm, but did no affect the performance at all. Only paid 250 for this product, highly recommend.

Strength:

This amp has about the same power as my Memphis 500D. Now that is impressive concidering my Memphis is 90% efficent.

Weakness:

Unlike the other review I read this amp got extreamly hot on me. Maybe even hotter than my 500D.

After all is said and done next to Memphis for the price this amp is worth the slim amount you have to shell out for its' power. At the time I put in this review I was running this amp on two ESX-12's (2ohms parallel). The only real Problem I had with this amp was that it clipped on me several times. I could just get in my car and turn up my head-unit and it would shut off for a split second. My amp is located in the trunk next to the factory battery (BMW 325E) so I know it is getting enough juice. But I still don't know why it clips (even when cool).

If you have read this review to this point you will see I compare this amp to my Memphis ST-500D.

Strength:

Nice looking, does not get that hot when ran in 4 or 2 ohm. A lot of wattage for the money, clean bass.

Weakness:

Gets very hot when wired for 1 ohm... I wouldn't recommend it as permanent amp in that situation.

300 dollars for 600 clean watts is definately a good deal. Also have read that the JBL Power amplifiers are all slightly underrated... meaning they really will give your subs as much juice as they can handle. I would recommend this amp to anyone who doesn't have a ton of money but wants loud, clean bass.

Strength:

For music with acoustic instruments like piano and bass this amp delivers incredible strength and accuracy to the woofers and has a constant flow of power that can kick you around like a rag doll.

Weakness:

After a certain amount of play time of hard hitting bass like techno and rap the amp kicks off and makes you have to lower the volume to compensate

499 at circuit city. yes i would recommend to anyone just starting out with car audio and is looking for quality.

Strength:

Cool looking case. Better than the Rockford Fosgate, Clarion, Coustic, Kenwood and other inexpensive subwoofer amps I tried. Good power and clean sound, but the advertising campaign seems to be the best thing about this amplifier. It advertises the most watts/$, but this claim is NOT true as I found several amps such as the MTX 500D which smoked the JBL. Since the MTX 500D costs the same or less than the JBL, my decision was a no brainer.

Weakness:

Cool looking case more for looks than function. Not as much power as claimed. Very limited dynamic headroom. Limited input gain control. Circuit board and MOSFET arrangement are not optimized for heat transfer to the cooling fins and away from the system. Limited variable bass boost. No external bass control. Not made in America.

I tried this amp because it was new and onsale at Circuit City for $430. I let them install it in my 96 Honda Civic so I wouldn't have any problems bringing it back if I didn't like it. After the install I could immediately tell the JBL BP600.1 drove my 4ohm subwoofer load better than the RF 200 Punch and other cheap amps mentioned above. The amount of power is good for an audiofile, but I listen to NIN, Ministry, Nitzer Ebb, and other industrial music and enjoy high SPL, which the JBL does not provide. I thought about upgrading to the JBL BP1200, but I wanted and needed more gain and external bass control. After I swapped out for the MTX, I later learned I bought the first and only JBL BP600.1 Circuit City has sold in my area and now I know why. If you have $430 to spend on a JBL BP600.1, spend it on an MTX 500D instead.

Better than the RF, Clairion, Kenwood and other cheap amps, but no where near MTX, MMATS, JL, Earthquake, Orion

Strength:

If you have a sub or subs that in all handle 500 to 800 watts rms this amp will push em' perfectly

Weakness:

none, except that it was 399 bucks, I mean it was worth the money, but still I hated to see it leave my account

I have it hooked up to 2 mtx thunder6000 12" inch subs and it plays bumps the hec out of em'. Each sub handles 250 watts rms but I can tell this amp could easily bump 2 that handled 300 each.

Strength:

Good clean and underrated power output. Small given its size. Good quality connections.

Weakness:

Can't find any yet.

This is a very good performing Amp. I'm only running 1 10" Infinity Kappa Perfect Sub in a .65 sealed enclosure is it bumps harder than most of my friends who have 2 12"ers. To top this off its installed in a boat and I'm only running it at 4ohm! Super tight and clean performance.

Fosgate, MTX, Orion. Given its reasonable price and comparable performance, I'd by the JBL power series amps in a heartbeat
