Strength:
It’s very powerful, I am comparing it to a 2ch 2300W Power Acoustik bridged to 1ch and the Alpine gives as much power and considerably cleaner!! I’m running the MRD-M500 w/ an Alpine CDA 9885 headunit (that I love) and the MRD is running a Alpine S series 12” sub in a 1.5 cu ft ported box. My biggest problem is a steady power supply so I’ve been considering an extra battery or a capacitor. Oh and for power and ground I’m using 1/0 ga for ground (3ft) and power wire is 8 strand 0 ga (very thick stuff) with a 200amp fuse and the battery (probably way to big but it’s all I had). My system rocks pretty good but I would like another amp and sub (exactly the same) and I’d be more than satisfied ~ Weakness:
My display is crapping out on me, I can’t read it. The numbers are making letters backwards and upside down so I cannot adjust.....not that I understand how to begin with so some kinda map would be great in the future or on a website. THANKS ALPINE Price Paid: 50

MRD-500
Strength:
Strong, birth sheet read 537. Tunability, I can't believe no one makes anything like this anymore. Adjustments are digital, no need to hook up an oscilloscope to figure out the exact frequency you are tuning for.
Weakness:
Not made anymore, When I first got it it was a little sensitive to my remote turn on lead, at the time I installed a 12 volt relay to power the remote turn on to the amp and triggered the relay with the remote turn on wire from my head unit. Just can't believe that I haven't found anything better than this after almost 8 years of ownership.
Similar Products Used: Nothing is like this amp, I have never used, seen or heard of another amp with all digital control and set up like this one. |

Alpine MRD-500
Strength:
Clean, efficent power in tremendous amounts.
Weakness:
These amps are best installed by an experienced user or a professional due to the complexity of installation and set-up. Incredible match for most any sub, especially the Alpine R series subs. I've owned these amps for about a year and they are incredible(once they've been dialed in appropriately). Similar Products Used: I only use Alpine and Infiniti so my reccomendations are simple. |

Strength:
extremely clear, very accurate, and many adjustments.
Weakness:
Pain to adjust! but worth it. I have owned these amps ( i have 2, each running to a seperate type R 12) and they slam, but only if you have them wired at 2 ohms. Another warning, if you are a begginer dont mess with these amps, they are extremely complicated and very hard to get to work right. Besides that these are excelent amps and they get the job done very well. I have 2 1241D's and they are perfect matches for these amps, but only have one going to each amp, dont run two of them off this amp! I hit 143.8db's with this setup in a trunk and they are definitly loud and clear. dont go for those weak M300's, be a man and buy the big stuff if your going to buy anything. Similar Products Used: i only use alpine. |
