Toyota Tundra Trucks | Vans

DESCRIPTION

Available in Regular cab, Double Cab and CrewMax styles, the Tundra also features three bed lengths, three engines, three wheelbases and a choice of 4X2 or 4X4 configurations.

The Tundra offers three engines and three cab sizes. Handling is relatively responsive, but the ride with the TRD package is stiff. The 5.7-liter V8 is very powerful. The tailgate is easy to raise and lower. A new 4.6-liter V8 replaced the old 4.7-liter for 2010.

Strength:

Comfortable, good performance

Weakness:

Quality is very very low, too many parts are breaking for a 2 year old truck.

At first I was pleased with this truck, the handling, comfort, power with the V8 is all good. It is very comfortable on trips and gets decent gas mileage. But recently it has been plegued with problems and I am contacting Toyota about it. I have taken this truck in for repair 3 times in the last 2 months, all for different items. I've now replaced 2 oxygen sensors and one exhaust manifold, (which was very expensive). Also my emergency brake light is stuck on, and one of the rear window latches fell apart. The exhaust manifold had to be replaced because the FACTORY O2 sensor was cross threaded into the manifold and no one could get the damn thing out. Anyways, looking back this truck has been a total disaster and I regeret my decision to buy a Tundra, and would not recomend this truck to anyone. Oh yeah, and the seatbelts don't retract anymore either.

Strength:

Exceptional on and off road capabilities, strong motor, quiet ride, few maintenence problems, available super charger kit for 345 HP and 100lbs additional torque.

Weakness:

Factory tires- they wear out too soon 30,000 miles--which may be a good thing since tread sucks on mud and ice. Suspension is a little soft to create a car like ride. Seat belt retention is a little weak-really not a big deal. Its hard to find much fault with this truck

I have owned this truck for four years. I did the break recall @ 15000 miles. I did not notice any problems but thought it was a good idea. Roters were turned but I do not think they replaced the pads. I went 60,000 miles before I had to repace the pads. The only problems I have had are a broken rear window latch and carbon canister leak which turned on check engine light this was replaced under warrenty. Drivers seat belt retention is weak. I am extremly impressed with this truck. Great low gears, good ground clearance excellent off road vehicle. Very smooth quiet ride on road. Almost too good, a stiffer suspension would ride rougher but get less body roll. This truck has plenty of power, very snappy motor. I get 14-15mpg w/ a heavy canapy and rear plywood carpet kit. Its hard to believe a truck that rides this nice is so good off road. It does not leak or burn any oil. I don't understand all this talk of weak breaks, this truck stops great and I think 60,000 miles on break pads is exceptional.

Strength:

I like everything about the vehicle except the brakes and the seat belts, oh and the mileage.

Weakness:

Low mileage, seatbelts won't retract. Brakes are a total disaster! I don't know how something like that happens.

Brakes. It is really amazing to find all of these reviews mentioning this brake issue that my dealer is only now starting to admit to. I was of course blamed for the problem. Or they would say that it's just a very heavy vehicle and that I should have realized that the brakes would wear down after 5000 miles and that the rotors would be warped. I knew better. If you are thinking about a Tundra, don't do it. They have not fixed the problem for 2004. You will be in and out of the brake shop every few thousand miles and the problem will cost you thousands by the end of the truck's life.

Strength:

Reputation, built well, good looking, smooth ride.

Weakness:

Backward opening rear doors, gas milage, cheap leather/vinyl interior, and did I mention the rear doors!

Overall, I am pleased with this truck. It rides nice, tows decent, looks good, and is put together nicely. I do not like the rear doors. Access to them is difficult when parked next to another vehicle, or in a garage (Front doors must be opened first). I will never buy a leather interior again. I have had splits in the leather and vinyl (yes, the leather is only on the flat surfaces...the sides are vinyl...come on Toyota...31K truck!) Toyota has replaces both seat covers twice...no questions asked. I am not happy with the gas milage either. The best I did was 14mpg. I have 19K miles on it, and have had no mechanical or brake problems. I can't wait for the tires to wear out so I can buy tires that actually hook-up. If I get on it around a turn, it sounds like a burn-out at Sears point raceway. I am glad to see Toyota making a "true" 4-door crew cab in '04. I would definately consider buying this truck, except Toyota has not offered a more powerful motor to keep competitive. O'well, maybe next year.

Dependability, smooth ride

Weakness:

seat belts, factory tires

Great Product way better than Ford, Chevy, And most of all Dodge.I have never had any of the brake problems that seems to plague everyone else. However like the guy above I have been at a stand still and had the feeling that i just got tapped in the rear. Do not know what that is about. To me there are only 3 problems withg the Tundra. The first is the tires are only going to last 30,000 miles. You will have an o2 sensor go bad around the 36,000 miles mark and then there is the driver side seat belt retracting. All areminor issues when the tires go bad just put a new set of Michelin's on it and better than new. The rest is minor compared to the big three with transmission and motor problems. Great Truck Toyota Man for life.

Strength:

Nice ride on straight road level ground, good look, toyota reputation.

Weakness:

Brakes, exhaust system, weak suspention on curves empty or loaded, low quality plastic accesories inside the cab they break easy, weak AC on hot climates,Black painted models are too delicate, they get scratch very easy, front seat belts do not retract, consequently denting interior floor-door frame.

Nice quiet ride,4.7 v8 very powerful for a Toyota truck, this truck is not shy when I step on it. Fuel comsuption its good for me 15-19 I like the truck but I would not ever think of having so many problems with the Tundra. I owned many Toyotas: trucks and cars in my life and this one really took me by surprize. @ 3100 miles brake problems and squdgy noises from the brake pedals, exhaust vibration/4wd failing to engaged. @ 14800 miles the front end and brakes were replaced @ no charge to me. from then on its a routine 6000- 10000 mile job. One thing I've noticed on this truck: A next bigger size tire can not be done without vibration @ some speed... I've tried to be optymistic about the whole deal and the more I try the more I realize that Tundra is a failure for Toyota Motor. There is always a first time... and this time the big corporation do not posses the honesty of recognizing it. With Tundra, Toyota motor reputation is on the line. And customer satisfaction its not happening, they should think about all the years of customer loyalty.

Weakness:

Excess break dust on the front wheels.

I love the truck. It is comforable, and I have no problems with the seat or brakes. It rides so smoooth, and pulls my boat (21 foot Hydra Sport)like nothing was there. I get a lotta looks (and good comments) because of the great style (sportside), TRD Pkg., 17 inch sport wheels and other acessories. I just wish I could afford another one....with leather and dual exhaust!

Great truck. Just wish I'd seen the comments about the seat height. I moved from a van and am used to having a captain chair. Now my knees are higher than the seat. Does any body know if a spacer can be inserted to raise the seat? Seems like there is plenty of head room to do it.
