Strength:

Pretty reliable and holds its value.

Weakness:

Underpowered, frequent repairs.

Gas mileage is lousy and the salesman lied through his teeth about that. The sheet metal is pretty thin and dents, or rather, wrinkles up pretty easy -- it's like the things made of tinfoil. The frame, however, is strong and substantial. So far, the transmission and differential have had to be replaced after only 73,000 miles. The mechanic did a good job of fixing it, but it took almost three weeks. Several times the car has suddenly stopped dead in traffic and my mechanic has never figured out what the problem is. It also has had the brakes go out at akward times, like when I needed to stop...fortunately, the parking brake and reverse gear work great. The engine is a six cylinder, but is kind of marginal in power. Once, I was hauling thirty bags of seed cover up a hill and couldn't make it. Had to split the load and make two trips.

Best looking Wheels Reliability Tough

Weakness:

Gas Mileage Weak Body Windshield wiper sprayer Cruise control controls

I Love this truck. Best looking truck out there, big or small. Power is good but could be a tad better. Tight steering with good feel and handling. Body is very weak but they look better banged-up anyway. It's what's underneath that you pay for. I too have the rattling dashboard model, but that's o.k. I expected gas mileage to be better, which is the same no matter what grade you use. The six speaker stereo sounds pretty good. I've taken this 2 wheel drive off road somewhat and it drives like it's on asphalt. Gearshift looks cool. Steering wheel looks and feels cool. Cruise control controls are in a bad position. Washer fluid sprayers suck. The bed on the extra-cab is plenty big and you can haul whatever you want, Best Payload in class, by far! Wheels look cool. I expect to buy another one when this one dies.

Strength:

V6 is great compromise of power and mpg. Great for towing. TRD package is nice off road.

Weakness:

Paint-plenty of rock chips on the lower body panels. Access to rear seats.

This truck is well built from the ground up. Have put 50k on it with some off roading and lots of dirt roads. This thing has no rattles. Gpm is ~21 on the highway. The back seats are not for sitting though. They are not accessible and are like sitting on a oak board.

Strength:

It is still shiny.

Weakness:

Wimpy engine, poor milage for engine, rough tranny, and rock hard seats.

This is an absolute piece of junk! This "truck" has been back to the dealer five times now and it still runs like crap. The transmission is really rough and the truck can barely pull itself. Poor quality and cheap materials.

Strength:

Good looks, even with the 2.7 liter engine I have yet to get it stuck. I use it alot on the beachs and I am always passing bigger more powerful more expensive trucks on the beach that are getting stuck.

Weakness:

GAS MILAGE is horrible for a 4 cyl engine. The clock is absolutly useless in it's current postion.

I have the 2001 Extrcab 4x4 SR5. Great truck, I have 18,000 miles on it and it's been rock solid so far.

like me, shes getting older

Bought her as a 2 yr old with 60k Alaska miles, every side except the top dented courtesy of a previous owner. Some still are. Been together ten years and nearly 160k miles since, and she's had routine maintenance, new shocks, new head gasket courtesy of toyota, a new clutch after getting unstuck from a sand dune while towing a uhaul trailer (don't ask), a new door to replace the one bunged up by the yokel that previously owned her, and .. thats it. Never let me down. Started in Interior AK in winter and never complained in Death Valley in summer. Front cloth seats wore ragged; now she's all spiffed up with seat covers. Dog chewed the transfer case shift knob; better grip. Chintzy 4" dash speakers died a year ago; good excuse to slap in a new deck and decent door speakers. Sounds purdy, runs purdy and, well.. looks all right. I'll never leave her.

This is a good all around vehicle. I find it comfortable and the power gives me confidence to merge on to the freeway and pass when necessary. The high possition offers great visability. The controls are simple an striaight forward. The stereo sounds great with all types of music.

Strength:

None.

Weakness:

Transmission is crap. Locking rear differential is a joke. I won''t even address the cheap interior. Dash rattles.

TAC Prerunner Xtracab V-6 TRD package. Over priced truck with old tin cans used for the body. Drove it out of the showroom and the welds broke on the muffler brackets. Engine runs rough, tansmission thumps on stops. Dealer said this is normal. So much for the engineering. Talked to Toyota HQ about this problem, they refused to comment. Says dealer is the expert. Now waiting for the recall since many 2002 owners are experiencing the same problem. Dihard Toyota owners just can''t admit this truck is crap.

Strength:

Reliability, Attractive, attention getting

Weakness:

Downside: seats are terrible. Drove To San Diego from LA (about 2.5 hrs) and was in misery. Expensive considering a full size truck is nearly as much. Would probably go for the Tundra if I had it to do over again. Much better ride, roomier interior/plush, more power and much more solid and well built (just compare...Tundra welds not visible, higher gauge steel used etc)

Nice truck, power adequate. Gets lots of looks. Handles well. Much better ride with Cap addition Attractive package for someone who is not large, doesn''t like large trucks and would simply like something reliable (if they can afford the steep price)
