Weakness:
oil filter placement and stock suspension This is a great truck for the money. I drove from houston to fairbanks AK and had no problems. Mine is a 4x4 regular cab with a leer topper. I got 25mpg all the way. Similar Products Used: 1980 chevy big ten |

Tacoma
Strength:
Overall construction: Over 80k and no rattles! Drivetrain/gearing: Has plenty of pep to run in hightway traffic but still enough tourque to run in the sand & lite mud. Engine: Even though it's only 150hp. It feels like it's got more. Some jet-pilot passengers have asked if it was a 6. The 4 also has a better reputation for reliablity and ease of maintance than the 6. No dropping of the skid-plate to change the oil filter. Tires: After 65k I swapped out the 265/75 Firestones Wilderness IIIs with BFGs' AT-Terrain 31X10.5s. In snow I've doubled the weight carried with the old F-stones and still can't keep traction.
Weakness:
Suspenion: Even if you don't plan on off-roading much opt for the TRD package. The spring upgrade is worth it. The front spring/shocks dive under hard steering. Out back the springs wrap easily under the slightest acceleration. Ladder bars may be a fix for this. Any extra weight over a 100lbs is carried on the helper spring so the truck will drop with almost any sizable load in the bead. The helper on mine bent after 2 fire wood tripes over paved roads. Sound system models 2001 and up: The old sound system isn't all the great in the dept market but the 2001 version is horrable. There's no dept to the music at all. Audophites will rip this out with in weeks. Locker (TRD Package) READ THE MANUAL: Unless you're getting the Pre-runner it only works in 4-Lo & under 5mph. This is nice to get you out of most stucks but I want something that will stay locked longer than that on sand or in mud. Hopefully Toyota will take a page from the Jeep Rubicon and it's locker setup for an off-road package. 1999 Tacoma ext-cab 2.7L 4cyclinder 4X4 with SR-5 and trailor package When I outgrew my Jeep Wrangelers, I wanted something that could go everywhere the Jeep did but with more cargo capsity. It would have to also still be able to carry 4 people resaonalble well. This left only the Tacoma & Dodge Dakoda. While the Dakoda has a larger engine, the Tacoma has better ground clearence, after-market, reputation. If you need a larger truck wait for the next gen Tacoma it supposed to be larger. The 04 4-Runner maybe clue to it's now size & interior. Similar Products Used: 92 & 95 Jeep Wranglers 2.5L Soft-top 5 speed & auto. If Jeep would make a CJ-8 or Toyota a convertable pickup I'd really be a happy man. 79 Pinto wagon (first car): It's not a truck but I tried to dr |

Tacoma LX 4x4
Strength:
1) Strong V-6, don't get the 4-cyl for a 4x4! 2) Good fuel economy (~22 mpg) 3) It's a Toyota, hard to kill.
Weakness:
1) Turning in 4x4 mode 2) Sissy-colored paint job 3) Excessive body squeaking noises. All around good performer. This 1996 Toyota Tacoma LX is an ext. cab w/ regular short bed. It's got a sissy-colored paint job (light blue/teal) yet it still looks tough with the stock raised body. This Vehicle comes equipped with a 3.4l V-6 engine mated to a 5-speed manual tranny. The 4x4 system integrates manual locking hubs with a 4 High/ 4 Low transfer case. Other equipment includes: A/C, p/s, p/b, cc, am/fm cass, dual oversized mirrors, liding back glass. Strength:
looks niece outside body.
Weakness:
Toyota doesn't offer almost nothing to upgrade my truck I need to go always with aftermarket products. Last year I dropped my truck 3 inches front and 4 inches rear, the truck is 4 cyl. regular cab, some muds and the truck looks nice, lexus 17 rims low pofile tires, flames paint ,truck looks nice, but you know the price I paid ,guys with chevys and ford always look at me like you want a race? A stupid guy hit me by the back when I passed the guy for more than two cars, the reason he said was,you are too low. Similar Products Used: a useless Chevy S10 |
