Goes on and on
Weakness:
93 shifting was rough It was wrecked in the front on the drivers side, easy fix for me. I just replaced the quater fender. The Ranger was a very good truck for me. I liked it very much. I drove the truck through some deep water and that all she wrote for the motor. Man did I mess up. there was a neon in front of me that did not make it either and I pulled over with the neon. We watched a lot of cars get the same thing and when you try to stop them, they dont stop you just watched all the cars get ruined. Man, that day was friday the 13th 2003. One car was floating into the pillars. I have to stop thinking about that day because I lost a very good truck. I had a 85 Ranger that I wish I still had. For some stupid reason I got a 99 Chevy s10 ZR2. I hope it will be half the truck the Rangers are. Time will tell Similar Products Used: 85 Ranger 89 shadow 97 neon 99 Chevy S10 ZR2 |

Ford Ranger 4x4
Strength:
Thinks it's a full-size truck ! 4x4 switching works great.
Weakness:
Below average gas mileage and a squeal that won't go away.... I bought this truck on Good Friday 2003. It had 33,000 miles on it with a remainder of 3,000 miles factory warranty on it. It is a really solid vehicle, with all the advantages of a full-size F-150. Interior is surprisingly roomy, the extended portion of the cab is OK for storing tols, etc., but I wouldn't suggest riding back there. Like any truck, the ride isn't as smooth as a luxury car but is on par for a truck. So far it has been easy to maintain, except for a little problem with squealing belts. I took it back to the dealer, and they replaced an item called the tensioner. Worked fine for a week, then the sqealing belts are back. Must be the nature of the beast. Fuel economy is more like a full-size rather than a compact truck also, delivering 18 mpg across-the-board. Could use a bigger fuel tank in light of this. All in all though, a 4 out of 5 thumbs up for this ride. Similar Products Used: Nissan pickup, Ford Courier pickup, Chevy S-10 pickup |

Has a 4.0 engine 5 speen automatic. has awseome power can beat a honda civic (if not hopped up). Has 57000 miles and didn't have to change the brakes it has about half left. Good suspension when off roading. love the extra cab can use the extra seats and a storage unit.
Weakness:
needs better gas milege. suspension is loud even know i lubed it. Don't care for the push button 4x4, because what if the wire comes out and your stuck in the bushes. Needs more stock clearence in the front because i bottom out often on rough terrain. I bought the ford used, it had about 57000 miles on it. I haven't had a problem with the truck yet. It even gets good gas milege (about 300 per tank) but you gotta think the tank is 19.5 gallons. It rides very good but doesn't have that much clearence in the front suspension only about an inch. It is very easy to keep clean just wash and an wax every now and then and it looks brand new. It doesn't fade even know its fire engine red in color. Nice size truck for me with a truck feel. Everything on it works. Gas mileage is good to me but may not compare well with other V6's. My Dakota was a V8 so the Ranger of course seems much better on gas.
Weakness:
Not much power going up the hills in the mountains but my Dakota didn't like the hills either and it had a V8. I haven't towed anything yet but I would imagine the towing would be difficult at times. I don't really like the way the transmission shifts. I am pleased with the truck so far. I had a 1993 Dodge Dakota that gave me trouble the whole time I had it even though it only had 28,000 miles on it when I bought it. It's nice to have a truck with everything working on it. The one problem I have had with it has been the dome light and door ajar light staying on after the door is closed. I have read numerous complaints about that same problem on this site including one who stated the way to fix it is by spraying some silicone spray on the latch mechanism. The reason I wanted to write this review is to say that I did that a couple of weeks ago and I have not had one single problem with the dome light since. Thanks to whoever posted that. I just wanted to pass along the success story I have had by using that idea so that it may help others. Similar Products Used: 1993 Dodge Dakota |

Has 56,000 miles and still has great factory brakes. Looks great both inside and out. Easy to access engine compartment. i get about 18 miles/gallon in city and 20 on highway.(could be better) STRONG TRUCK. |

A bit bumpy but hey, it's a truck. The nicest truck I've ever owned. 4.0 motor is very fast. Five speed automatic is as smooth as a towncar. 6 disk very good from factory but could use e.q.. allso I seem to be getting better gas milage than most. Just over 20 miles per. gal. everyone at work is drooling. Eat your harts out suckers! Similar Products Used: f150, f100 and f250. |

Excellent Around town vehicle, Awesome lines and curves. Low maintence
Weakness:
Poor gas milage, a little sluggish from 2nd to 3rd gears (had problem fixed) still sluggish When I first got my ranger I loved it...and I still do. It is a great truck and handles excellent. The vehicle has a lot of room for aftermarket add-ons and I have utilized all that space. Could have beter gas milage though (250 a tank) All and all I love my Ranger Similar Products Used: 1991 Ford Ranger, B2300 Pickup |

Strength:
3.0 L V-6 / automatic has alot of get up and go. Everything on the interior is solid and most importantly works--not so on many of my other vehicles! Basic engine maintenance is setup for easy access for do-it-yourself'ers. The first oil change only took me 10 minutes. A quick check of the spark plugs & filters actually looks like a human can easily get to them.
Weakness:
The gas mileage is terrible. Only get 200 miles per tank which I think is not good enough for a new V-6. Most of these miles are all highway that makes it even worse. Ford could also do a better job on corrosion control underneath--drive shaft, brake parts, U-joint hardware, etc. These parts have ZERO corrosion control and detract from the overall appearance on the truck because they rust easily and are visable when approaching the truck because the Edge models sit higher due to slightly larger tires/wheels/suspension. I thought my 93 Ranger was tops until now. My 2003 Ranger Edge is by far the best truck I have ever owned. The AM/FM CD MP3 player is pretty good for a factory model. Fords current $2,500 rebate made this truck a steal. Similar Products Used: 1993 Ranger XL |

Powerful 4.0l sohc. Great looks. 4WD suspension with 2WD. Easy to clean interior. Rack and pinion steering with torsion bars.
Weakness:
Not so quiet interior. Could get better gas mileage. Could use bigger factory tires. This is a great truck over all. Love the 4.0 sohc. The truck looks great and gets a lot of compliments. It handles very well and rides good for a truck with a 4WD suspension. I haven't had any major problems with it, although some are on going problems that I will have to deal with. The first problem, which I thought was corrected, is the camshaft chainguide tensioner. It rattles when the motor reaches 3000 rpm. It was changed but still does the same thing. The second on going problem is that I feel slack in the rear when take off from a dead stop. Can't figure it out. The truck had developed a water leak that reveals itself from beneath the passenger side cowl kick plate. I still have to figure that out. The only other problem was that a gas pressure sensor had to be replaced. Other than that, the truck is great. The interior is a little noisy but I bought the truck with 8900 miles on the odometer and the person who had it before had 2 12" woofers in the back cab which undoubtedly loosened up everything. Still love the truck though. I owned a 1988 Ranger. I had the truck for 13 years. I put 265,000 miles on it. The engine is still running great and doesn't burn oil. It has close to 300,000 miles now. That was a great truck too!!! Similar Products Used: 1988 Ford Ranger XLT w/2.9L |
