Model Reviewed: Ranger 2.6L

Strength:

- Looks / Factory decals on the side make it stand out
- Peppy 4 cycl.
- Easy clutch
- Good factory speakers
- Stability through turns

Weakness:

- Needs alittle more HP
- 3rd gear alittle too high (35-40 MPH). Really only for racing
- VERY basic sound system (Radio...that's IT)
- Needs more room behind seats
- No tachometer

I got this truck at the beginning of 2001...with 12340 miles on it and in factory condition inside and out...FOR $8500!!! No, I didn't hold them up with a gun, either. Incredible deal for a snazzy little truck! This truck has good speed for a 4 cyc. (had it up to 94 MPH and could've gone futher!) For a teen, this is the perfect one...very reliable to the start, especially in cold Ohio mornings (9*).

BOTTOM LINE: Dollar for dollar...this is a very good truck

Strength:

the only strength that the truck has is that it is small and can get placed other full-size trucks cant

Weakness:

i bought the truck with 180,000 miles on it and it ran good for about a week. the valves tap so loud you can hear it coming from a mile away. the reason is because one side isnt gettin any oil. it lost just about all the power that it did have (as if there was a lot anyway). a bearing in the cam spun and killed the truck.

IF ANY OF YOU ARE LOOKIN AT REVIEWS TO PURCHASE A GOOD TRUCK, THEN DONT LOOK AT THE RANGER IT WAS THE BIGGEST PIECE OF $H1T. BUT IF YOU ARE LOOKIN FOR A RANGER JUST FOR THE BODY THEN CALL ME AND I WILL GET RID OF IT FOR 1400$ PHONE# IS (856)694-0565 NAME IS BRYON AND IM LOCATED IN NEW JERSEY

Model Reviewed: Ranger Edge

Strength:

Looks, 4.0L engine, power, Edge styling, ride, great CD

Weakness:

Interior doo-dads - No map pocket on back of seats, no vanity mirror, no map lights

My former Ranger was rock-solid and the new Edge is just as good. I custom ordered the Edge model, 4x2, 4.0L engine, automatic, extended cab, power equip group, 6CD changer. I have had constant coments on the looks and no one can tell that it it NOT a 4x4. The Edge package is a little sparse on interior extras, but that is by design. I have plenty of room for my gear inside-bikes in the back, great power/acceleration, and the automatic is a must for Seattle traffic. Gas mileage is pretty good as well, 20mpg right out of the gate. I love this truck and would recommend to anyone.

Strength:

Smooth ride, fun to drive, decent power, really looked sharp.

Weakness:

ABS (I immediately disconnected the ABS upon buying the truck (I hate the way ABS ruins handling in four wheel drifts and everything else)). The electronic 4x4 worked okay, but not as good as the Bronco's. The interior is too small (our knees throbbed until after we finally sold the truck). Too, there is almost no space to carry tools or outdoor equipment (unless you get the extended cab). The 5 speed transmission should be stronger (although it's as strong as any other brand, they're all too weak for my preferences). Not overly safe, other drivers seemed to target us constantly. Too much money for too little truck.

Fun to drive, reasonably sporty, dependable (purchased new), and looked good for use in my business. Although it has one of the largest interior spaces available in a compact pickup, it's still too small. A full sized F-150 cost about the same, gave similar mileage, more power, and far better comfort. Given the choice, I'd recommend buying a full sized pickup instead of a Ranger. We have owned 4 Rangers, but won't be buying another. For city or off-road use, a full sized Bronco wins easily.

Compared to Blazers, Silverado pickups, and earlier Rangers, the 1991 model is far superior in ride, handling, and comfort. The 1991 4.0 extended cab 2 wheel drive Ranger will run the pants off the 4x4 model on city streets, and give better comfort and mileage as well.

Nice looking truck, has all the bells and whisles, 4.0 sohc, auto, pw, pl, keyless entry, 4 doors, tilt, cruise, air, cd changer, 16" alloys. Bought the 4x4 w/offroad package with limited slip axle. Handles nicely, already had to check out the 4-wheel abs brakes...they work great. 4 doors makes it easy to put packages behind the seat.

Weakness:

Transmition could shift a little more briskly, too soft a shift. The seat belt reminder system repeatedly goes off telling you to buckle up, I hate those thing....

Very happy with my purchase. Very good value compared to other trucks in this catagory. I bought one of the dealers "lost leaders" so you can't hardly go wrong on price...dealer claims they actually lost money here, but who knows.
Ford claims a 40-some hp increase over my 1999 model, but the 99 seems quicker, maybe the difference between a stick and auto.

Strength:

The best looking small truck on the road. This truck can go anywhere, with the right aftermarket parts of course. I have the 2.5L and it has plenty of power off-road in 1st or 2nd gear. So many aftermarket parts to choose from.

Weakness:

You must get the 6,the 2.5L cant pull anything. My dome light sensor makes the light stay on. (Not after the hammer) They replaced it 3 times until my warranty ran out. Now I have no lights and a lil red light on my dash that always stays on. That has been the worst mechanical problem for me. I have replaced most Ford's OEM Air, fuel and suspension parts. They are to weak to have fun with. All I can say is I hate dealerships, I will never have another car of mine worked on at one. The people they hire are usless.

I am very happy with my Ranger. It is the best light pickup on the market. I would have to say that if you buy one, be prepared to spend a lil on the extras afterword. It will make your truck run and look much better.

I purchased a 4 cyclinder, wouldn't do that again - but saved me on speeding tickets.

I purchased this as my first car and after 115K miles it is still going strong. The only draw make I bought a 4 cyclinder wouldn't do that again. I loved it so much I just bought my wife a 2000 Ranger and she loves it.

Strength:

I bought this truck from a freind which put it threw hell, made every black mark from here to Mexico. He thought it had lots of power. I also put oversize tires on it. I have put 32,000 miles on it with no trobles.Even with 142,000 on it the oil is still clear, and don't burn oil. This ranger has about 142,000 miles with not to many problems. I also can say that with good tires it seems to get around very good for 2wd. Over all this truck is very reliable.

Weakness:

I would have to say the fuel pressure regulator, and the fuel sensor switch located under the dash. I would aso have to say that it needs a little bit more power. It also doesen't get good gas miledge, only 200 miles to a tank. I also had the float in the tank stop working after 117,000 miles.(gas gauge) The Ford Rangers also seem to have weak shocks. I replaced my shock with air shocks, makes it look a little more tougher. It seems to also want to over heat sometimes. I believe ford Rangers don't have very good cooling systems. I can say that every ford I have owned I have walked home before.

I would recomened a Ford Ranger to anyone. My Ford Ranger seems to run very stong for having 142,000 miles on it. I recomened someone to buy one from a older person, not a young kid. This truck is very reliable when I have to go to work. I also have used this truck under many large loads. Even though it's a small truck; it still offers just as much as a full size truck.
