Ford Ranger XLT 2.3L 4cyl.
Strength:
I bought this truck with 59,000 miles using this as my daily driver/beater and mudder. Fairly quick four a four banger. Light, and decent gas mileage. Never let me down.
Weakness:
Slow as a pig as far as passing. Not very many mods out for the 2.3L. The dome light stays on all the fricken time. Horn just quit working. Clutch was going out. Would just eat up the right rear tire for lack of Posi-trac. Let me just say this. The Ford Ranger XLT 4x2 is not really meant to go to a secluded area where you may be able to find snow banks in excess of 4 to 5 feet high and go flying off of them with your truck. Nor is it really meant to hit a dirt mound about 3 feet high and at fort five degrees angle. But I tell you what through snow and mud 2 feet deep to access roads and back on to the high in excess of 100 miles an hour this truck never let me down. As far as the superficial things like the dome light I simply ripped off the fixture and super glued it back on when I traded it in. By the way i got $4,900 for it and the dealer sold it for $6,000. I am know a proud owner of a 1999 4x4 Ranger XLT Supercab 3.0L fully loaded that will climb just about anything. Similar Products Used: Toyota tacoma, Dodge dakota, Shopping cart |

2.3liter xlt
Strength:
it looks great and gets me where i'm going. Put a cd player in it and a 350watt sub behind the passenger seat, which was hard to fit being a standard cab. it does light work well, like i pulled out a 14foot maple stump, and put our rollin dock with it. i love it and wax it almost every week.
Weakness:
the 2.3liter with the automatic has one power and keep thinking the parking brake is on. and driving all cities miles it doesn't get very good gas mileage(17mpg in winter and 19mpg in summer) i would recommend this truck to anyone that is looking for a long lasting, good looking truck. But would recommend going with the 4.0l v-6 to get the power it needs. Similar Products Used: dodge ram v-6 (glad i didn't buy that one) |

Ford Ranger XLT 4X4
Strength:
207HP V6 engine, 4X4, 4 door extended cab, comforable interior & smooth ride for a truck, fair amount of room behind seats, appealing appearence, 4 wheel abs brakes, air bags.
Weakness:
Ground clearance is too high with optional 16" wheels (XLT package), Fuel gauge is inaccurate ( it still has 7-8 gallons left when indicating empty). With only 2500 miles on the vehicle I can't give a fair evaluation about quality and fuel consumption. With the exception of the fuel gauge and ground clearance the vehicle has performed admirable. It gets a little bouncy on rough highway, but delivers good road manners on snow covered roads. I consider it a fair trade off. Highway milage to date is 18 mpg. It has improved with each tankfull. I expect it to level off about 19-20 mpg. The wife and I are over 60 years old and have driven as much as 300 miles without discomfort. Our other vehicle is a 1996 windstar and find it more comfortable and smoother, but then it's not a truck. Similar Products Used: 1994 Mazda pickup. Difficult to compare do to age & equipment differences. It rides smooth, but lacks the options and HP that the Ranger has. |

Ranger
Strength:
Good stiff ride and a lot of power. I got the 4.0L and it has more power than the 5.7L Dodge RAM I drove. I like all the standard features. The truck is the best looking by far.
Weakness:
The seats could be made of better material. And the gas mileage could be better. I spent some time researching the different mid-size trucks. I looked them up in comsumer reports and also based my decision on price and fuel economy. If you go and drive the Ranger for a day and then look at the other trucks out there, the decision will be easy. It was for me. Similar Products Used: Chevy S-10(Don't go there) |

- Ranger XLT 4.0 supercab - 4x4
Strength:
Build quality is excellent.
Weakness:
Gas mileage This truck is excellent. Just taking this truck for a drive will be enough to show anyone how much better a truck can be than the competition. It is smooth and responsive. Given the Tacoma is a flashier looking pickup from the outside, the Tacoma comes nowhere near to matching the Ranger's interior and drive. The Ranger is also an excellent 4 wheel drive vehicle. Not long ago I had the truck climbing mountains I never thought possible. Similar Products Used: Toyota Tacoma |

edge regular cab stepside 2wd
Strength:
-looks(hood, ride height, front end, enterior design, fog lights)
Weakness:
-engine is loud when you first start I bought my edge in Dec. of 2000 and i love it. The day i bought it people was like "is that a 4wheel drive" it looks like a jacked up off road machine but its really 2wd. There is no other truck in town and the hood scoop looks like an after-market cowl-induction hood. I haven't towed much except for a couple of 4 wheelers and it seemed to have plenty of power. I read about a guy that had bought one and has had all kinds of bad luck. Must Suck...at least i hope it doesn't happen to me. I have 2 complaints: gas sucking beast and it is unusually loud when you start it. Other than that i would recommend it over the s-10 or sonoma or any other light pickup out there...and also CHICKS LOVE IT. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Value and reliabilty. This is my second Ranger. Comfortable interior, easy to read and use dials. Functional and practical. Limited slip rearend, offroad pkg, tow pkg. Stepside bed.
Weakness:
Road noise, some squeaks here and there. A bit more power would be nice at times. Yet the 4.0 has gotten me where I need to go, pulled or hauled what I needed to. Factory tires where garbage. Proud owner of a 1998 4x4 4.0 Ford RAnger XLT SC stepside. This truck is loaded with every option available on a Ranger. Use this truck as a fishing and camping/hiking vehicle in the great NW. Has never let me down, very reliable. This is my second Ranger and has proven to be every bit as good as my first. Similar Products Used: Test driven Toyota, Nissan and Chevy. |
