E250 econoline van
Strength:
Smooth ride, good acceleration ,good radio and speakers, and I have factory installed toolboxes and shelves, which helps keep all my tools organized
Weakness:
Front end alignment and tire wear, paint job could have been better, van tends to rattle at times and I sometimes have to tighten bolts on shelves even though there are lock washers on them I purchased my van in March 1999. The first thing I noticed was "ghosts" in the clearcoat finish.I can only describe them as smears or swirls. When I brought them to the attention of the service manager, he said they couldn''t do anything for me. About 6 months later ,I was following a friend to a job, when he told me my tires on the front seemed to be leaning in at the top.I thought he was nuts, but upon closer inspection, the tires were indeed wearing on the inside! Now with 30,000miles on them, I have to replace two perfectly good tires, and have the front end aligned because of poor design by Ford. Somebody told me that there is a kit that could resolve this problem once and for all. Does anyone out there know about this? Similar Products Used: This is my first van,as I have had pick ups in the past, but nothing beats not having to climb into the back of a pick up to get to your tools. |

Power Room Comfort looks lot''s of head room (Raised roof)
Weakness:
Transmission low ground clearence (due to fiberglass running boards) The only thing that is really hard to put up with is the transmission. It will not Downshift for passing or hillclimbing Sometimes it won''t upshift unless you take your foot off the gas. Once in a while it will go into overdrive at 25 30 mph. But other than that it is a pretty good van. It''s really good in the snow (due to weight)but bottoms easy due to the fiberglass running boards. Has a really good amount of power with the 5.0 (302) engine. It can take off really quick. When you manually shift it into 3rd it has a lot of passing power. Even when it goes in to OD at at 25 mph the 302 pushes on untill manually shifted in to 2nd. It also has a lot of room. It can haul 7 people and all of there stuff and still have room to spare. It has a 13 in TV and VCR in it. It also has a video game system in it. It''s also cool being able to look down on other vehicles. Similar Products Used: 1995 Dodge Caravan but couldn''t compare as far as room and power. |

E-150 cargo Van
Strength:
Comfort, Ergonomics, and workability.
Weakness:
Driver side door gasket keeps coming loose This has been a great work van. It has Tilt, Cruise, Power windows and locks. It is a cargo van and has no rear windows. It also has a solid divider between the Passanger compartment and the Cargo area. I purchased it June of 99 and have had only one problem. That was with the Transmission "stuttering". I initially thougt it was a bad tire or rim. I had it serviced with synthetic fluid and have not had a problem with it since. It shifts smoothly and actualy seems to get better milage. 150 Econoline - Customized
Strength:
Drives great. Handles great and smooth nice ride. This is a Customized (my first) and it has proven great for family outings and lond trips. It even tows a large/heavy concession trailer we have with few problems. Or at least it stays in front.
Weakness:
Not many. Would like to get 40 MPG but that''s not an option with this size. When I bought this it had a vibration that the dealer couldn''t find. He changed everything, tires, wheels, rebuilt front & rear end, rebalanced drive line, replaced all brakes, rebuilt transmission, etc. He finaly gave up after having me in a rental for a month and offered to give me money back or give me $1000 to take it as is. Took the money and ran, I told them all along it was the shocks. Replaced them and no problems. Have had no major problems since. Love them Ford Vans. Similar Products Used: In the last 15 years have had 2 other Econolines. A 1977 and a 1978 & loved them both. Drove the 1978 into the ground and gave the 1977 (Ole Blue)to sister after we got the 1994 and she''s still drivi |

slow, gas hog, lose steering Great old work van that has been a job site vehicle it''s whole life. Not great power but enough to haul tools. Always reliable. Only paid $100 dollars for the van but needed engine work $500. Similar Products Used: 88 Dodge Ram 150 Van (faster better on gas , also rides better but is also newer and has a little less wear) I use these vans to haul tools and drive on job sites. |

E150 Chateau
Strength:
Air conditioning (front and rear) work great. Quiet and roomy. Enough power in V6 if not towing a big load. I fill it ocassionally with 1200 lbs and it rides great.
Weakness:
Brakes suck! Needed to replace pads AND ROTORS twice since owning at $600 a pop. Technician said this is common and getting 25K before replacing is really good. Power door lock failing at 50K miles. Transmission cooling line leaked all fluid out with only 20,000 miles and Ford would not extend warranty on tranny. Front ball joints needed to be replaced at 25K miles (luckily under warranty). I drive my vehicles easy and to see this many problems within 2 years is pretty low quality in my eyes. Very roomy and comfortable. Ford did a good job reducing rattles as mine has 51K miles and still very quiet. Had some quality issues (transmission cooling line and brakes). The V6 works for me. drives great when loaded! Lots of room, good view of the road, nice radio,
Weakness:
A gas guzzler, Mine is a conversion full-size van by Elegance. The 4.2L 6 cylinder engine is sufficient to move it around with ease; fully loaded, it''s a little syruppy. Note: Van 400 lbs. lighter in the rear keep in mind when distributing load. I happy to say that at 38000 miles I haven''t had a single thing go wrong with it. The seats are ergonomically well designed; they''re comfortable on long drives. The turbo gets you in and out of situations when needed. Power steering is light and easy. My brakes seems to be holding up nicely. I''m very happy with my van. Similar Products Used: I had a series of VW vans, 1972, 1984, 1985. |

gas hog This is the third e-150 club van we have had. Runs great, no significant brake or tire problems ( we have had to replace tires at 50,000 + miles- about what I would expect ) Very quiet on the highway, even at high speeds. Gas hog. We have sold them at around 60,000 miles-getting around half what a new van costs so it''s easy to keep driving a new van. pulls a boat like a champ and goes up mountain passes like it''s tuned for high altitude, which it is not) Similar Products Used: Dodge ram van- had carburated engine- never again |

Front end alignment does get out of wack too easy. Our Ford 97' E-150 Conversion works great for our family outings. The ride is smooth and enjoyable going down the highway. IT tows our 24 travel trailer great. The 5.4L engine has the power, and does use the gas. Similar Products Used: None |
