Strength:

Solid feel air tight. Plenty of power great fuel mileage.

Weakness:

loud engine, Oil change, filter hard to get at.

The first dodge I owned was a 97 ext-cab 5.9 v8 loved the truck, but the fuel mileage and power for pulling a travel trailer was not the best.I traded it in for the 5.9 deisel and have had no problems with either one.Iwould recomend this truck to anyone.I owned ford f-150 also a 97 and it felt like a toy compared to the dodge.I did not like the ford at all.the fuel mileage on the 97 ford and dodge was comparable.

Strength:

It's comfort, and looks, it's warranty, and it's dealer Moss Bro. they really worked the best deal for me. Exceleration, and towing power, and price for what I got.

Weakness:

Sits high, hard to get into without running boards. Drinks fuel in large gulps.

This truck is a pleasure to drive, it handles very well, and it excelerates like no other in it's class. It is very quiet, sturdy, yet a smooth ride to. I have the sport pkg, it's worth it's price, the best looking truck in it's class, and can pull a house.

Lots of smooth power. Reasonably good gas mileage for a big truck. Seats 4 to 6 comfortably.

Weakness:

Can't think of any

So far this truck is living up to all the hype of being "Truck Of The Year". The power of the hemi is awesome and the truck is tight, smooth and as quiet as many sedans. Even though it is a big truck I have no problem driving it in traffic. Bought it to tow a 7000 lb. travel trailer.

For Sale.....should I go on? I've gone through two transmissions, two calls to the tow company, one transfer case and one trip through the body shop in less than 20,000 miles!1st transmission lasted 2,000 miles and the reverse went out. Second time lucked out and made it to the shop before I was left walking. The truck wouldn't shift into overdrive until it was redlined. At about 12,000 miles the 4wd wouldn't engage and the transfer case had to be replaced. Then I drove over a three ft high snow pile and the front bumper got all bent up. This truck was not what I thought it was when I bought it. Mabey it was a lemon? but I wont spend my money on another Dodge.

Pick one. Real truck owners will love it and People who want car-like trucks will still love it.

Weakness:

Find one. Oh! the drink holders don't keep beverages cold... There, I found a weakness

The 01 1/2 ton was my first Dodge. Absolutley loved it! 5.9l automatic Everything I wanted in a 1/2 ton truck. I upgraded because of towing and economy. At 140 miles round trip a day 14mpg average wasn't enough. 1yr 3mos and 47000 mi. not 1 problem. The 03 2500 cummins absolutely ROCKS! This truck $for$ had more than it's competitors as far as anything goes. Ask any diesel shop or owners about it like I did and cummins is cheaper, more dependable and economical. How about 20 to 21 mpg avg, 305 hp and 555lbs of torque and quiet as a gas eng. I cannot say enough about the truck, you just need to check one out. I used to be a chevy man but I am now RAM!

Strength:

Power, Looks, Lots of Cab room (in front), Good Ride, Comfortable Front Seats... Really a sharp looking, fun-to-drive, comfortable truck!

Weakness:

FUEL ECONOMY! At best you'll get 11mpg! Also, the brakes wear out pretty fast. The weakness that really bothers me is the lack of service at the dealership. Whenever I take the truck in (5 times now), they all act as if you are bothering them. I guess they figure they already have my money...

I have to admit, I have mixed feelings about this truck. It has many good features such as power, size, cabin room... did I mention power? However, there are just as many bad features as there are good.

Model Reviewed: RAM 5.9 Auto SLT Quad SB Off-Road

Strength:

Styling, interior and exterior are best of the big 3. I really like the torque with the 5.9 & the 410 axle ratio. It tows 6K trailer load on the highway and up a steep boat ramp great. The ride performance on and off-road is outstanding. On the engine side, the 5.9 EFI runs smooth for everyday driving conditions. The Quad Cab versality speaks itself.

Weakness:

Transmission (transmuushhon) up-shifts from 2nd to 3rd when it feels like it. The shift points are set to low, so the engine has to lug the truck @ 45mph. (dealer claims can't adjust)...In off-road conditions this combined effect results in the engine working too hard; decreased RPM,low torque, poor traction. Which bring me to the tires. The 17" Goodyear Tires are great highway tires but are USELESS off-road. The first time I went off-road, I had to be winched out. Never happened before. Will replace OEM tire ASAP.
Fuel effeciency should be better, but Dodge has not up-graded the ignition system therefore resulting in lost Hp and poor MPG. My combined MPG for 12K miles is 13MPG.

At time of purchase the dealer was very fair and bought the truck in less than 10 minutes.
I would reccommend purchasing the RAM, because all the problems I have had will be resolved; (shift kit for transmission, coil pack for ignition and better tires).
If you are looking for a truck that does everythig well, but no one thing great, buy a RAM.

Model Reviewed: Cummins 5sp 2500 LWB 4x4

Strength:

Good looks. Comfortable seats. Nice sounding stereo (at least AFTER I got the CD changer... radio quality is weak). Great tow vehicle. 8500 miles on it so far.

Weakness:

Where to start... The paint is seriously weak (black sport pkg). Mention of that anti-chip coating on the window sticker makes me laugh. Add on a set of the Mopar mudflaps, and then you can tear into half the paint on the back end of the truck still. Why bother? I realize these things won't protect the body from the front wheels kicking stuff up, but you'd think they could at least make them adequate for the back wheels at $70-80/set. Oh yeah, there's quite a few fisheyes and runs in the lower body paint too. Shows up pretty nice in that black paint. Air conditioner condensation will NOT drain properly from the evaporator box. Prepare for a blast of mold smell when turning on the AC on a hot day. For my 3yr/36k warranty, I get glorified lysol sprayed into the evap box drains. AC air directional controls are intermitent. They are at least guaranteed to work while the truck is visiting the dealer, of course. The upper rear door latch was held on by one bolt. It came loose on vacation and the doors were flopping around for the rest of the trip. All the console lid supports that hold the lid open snapped off. The shifter came loose from the top of the tranny and dumped oil all over the trans. Fuel drain won't shut off internally. The lever will feel like its closed and be in the closed position, but internally its hit and miss if its ACTUALLY off. End result is a 1 foot wide patch of diesel fuel being dumped along the road as I drive if I'm not careful. I'm still trying to get them to fix it. Maybe they can order the right part this time... Squeeling from the rear pinion dust seal (supposedly). I guess this is a common problem (they at least admitted it after I brought it in for this), but I have to wonder WHY a 5 star dealer won't fix this kind of common stuff when the truck is in for other things. This brings up the main part of my gripe with this truck. We bought it at a 5 star dealer and have it serviced there. The service is terrible. I haven't had it there that many times, but in the times I've had to deal with them, I've been blatantly lied to, they've denied common problems, they've not returned my calls at times, they've had me wait 2wks at times to get service, and now they've ordered the wrong part and wasted my time (1/2 hour trip to drop off and get the thing each time). Back to the truck... the limited slip axle is a joke as far as I'm concerned. I think mine is pathetic and it tested at the high end of their breakaway torque range. Even if the limited slip clutches slip at only 30ft-lbs, they still consider this "good". They told me mine slipped at 160 or so, but performance-wise, its pathetic with a vehicle this heavy and an engine with the torque of the cummins.

This was my first new vehicle. I bought it mainly to avoid working on the
vehicles that I drive, so I can spend more time with my family while my kids are growing up. My hobby is older car restoration, so working on the vehicles I drive was only an issue of time. Anyway, a new vehicle with a warranty sounded like a great idea. Saves time, no hassles, yada, yada, yada. This has been a pure joke. Feeling obligated to have them work on it since they flip the bill has wasted more time than it would've taken me to fix it myself. Add on the fact that I have to deal with people that lie to me, and in some cases have to argue to get things fixed, and its just flat out not worth it. I literally drive around in this thing pissed because it reminds me of this all the time. In summary, the truck is solid and decent, but has a lot of little problems that add up and piss me off. The service that comes with the truck is a joke. Since in my opinion I paid for the truck and the service, the rating is for both. I plan on getting rid of this thing soon to find something without a warranty.
