dodge dakota sport plus 4x4 regular cab
Strength:
Seems to have higher ground clearance than my 2002. 3.7 liter provides enough power.
Weakness:
automatic transmission shifts a bit rough, especially at highway speeds. Poorly fitting doors. Have had trouble with a growling noise when I back up. Dodge is aware of the problem and is working on a dealer field fix. Until then I guess I'll growl away. Doors also don't seal properly when closed, lots of wind noise. gas hog I bought my dokota in june of 03 the day after I got the truck home i was putting a few things in the back seat when i noticed extra bolts under the flip up seat i thought that was odd , the dealership inspected it said this sometimes happens . in dec of 03 with snow at 6 inches while backing into my driveway in 4wd there is a clicking sound coming from the front end and also sluggish when pressing on the gas. als the center cap on the rim fell off during normal driving or some one stole it . but other then that i love this truck Similar Products Used: 78 f-150, 88 gmc s-15 |

Strength:
Power on the 4.71 V8. Rides nice for a big compact truck. Looks, it's a mean looking truck. Sits high with the 17" off road wheels. Tow group is pre-wired straight through, with the brake module in the glove compartment.
Weakness:
Gas Mileage. Handling and ride degrades in 4 wheel drive noticeably. The storage console on the floor beneath the middle front seat impeads anyone from actualy sitting there, so it doesn't really seat six. Also the cupholders are too far away, in the same console. The flip down storage console is not positioned well. It would not be safe to access it while driving, and if you are a large man, it will sit on your right leg a bit while driving. I have all the heavy duty service group options on this truck so I can tow a horse trailer and a boat. It's really the perfect vehicle for me, it's not too big like the full size Ram, so I can drive it around town like a car, but it has the power I need to tow up to 6200 Lbs, and it tows great. The 4.71 V8 feels like a big truck motor, especially with the heavy axle, lower gear ratio and slip differential on the heavy duty service group. I also got all of the power convenience included the overhead digital display, nice feature but certainly not necessary. The back seat is big enough for an adult, but if your big, over 6 foot over 200 sized person, it would be a bit tight. Similar Products Used: 2001 Ford Explorer. |

4.7 4x4 club cab
Strength:
Looks 4.7 liter power is good rides nice
Weakness:
no towing hooks bed tie downs needs a third door or something to get to back seat at least on club cab costs allot for what you get It is a sharp looking truck but there is a lot left out. no ash tray? no access to back seat, no front towing hooks? Can not even find aftermarket hooks. Come on they are standard all of the competition. Maybe next time i need them ill just hook to the bumper and rip it off. Tie downs on the bed are useless. I havent yet had the front end problems thateveryone is having but im keeping my eyes open. The truck is helpless off roading but maybe I expect a little more than most people. It is a nice truck to drive around town but dont buy it if you plan to use it like a truck is meant to be used Similar Products Used: 84 s-10 |

Weakness:
engineering. COMFORT FACTOR!!! no tow hooks! weak steering. this has by far been the worst pickup i have ever owned. (and im working on my 7th!) no less than 3 months after i bought it , the entire front suspension had to be replaced. (thanks to Dodges wonderful engineers who thought up that greasless front end components) the bed is virtually useless with those hokey tiedowns, my engine has recently started ticking (lifters?) and just last week i lost overdrive. the truck is huge for a mid size but the cab just isnt in proportion to the rest of it , little or no head room for my 6'3" buddy. and the back seat is 100% useless. Dakota Quad Cab SXT
Strength:
Looks, looks and looks! Decent features for the money. 7/70 protection. Adequate power and mileage not as dismal as I might have expected.
Weakness:
Those non-greaseable front suspension components have me a bit concerned. I have never purchased a new vehicle without having some little thing or things needing attention. This truck was no different but the little issues (thusfar) have been addressed. 3.9L V6 with 5 Speed. Nicely optioned with the SXT package (Nice wheels, CD, Tilt, Cruise, etc.) Excellent looks. Good room leg room in both the front and back seats. The clutch pedal is too close to the park brake pedal (or vice versa). The headliner drops down too far directly above the front seat headrests for people taller than 6'. One of the best factory finishes I have ever seen. One recall for a harness re-route was handled quickly and (it seems)competently. Driver side front shock leaking at 4K. Replaced. Driver side door seal mis-installed. Too much wind noise. Corrected at dealership. Terrible vibration/howling when front and rear windows are open at highway speeds. I don't have a sliding rear window (back glass) and it seems like the air entering the cab has nowhere to go. Annoying as I prefer the windows down over the AC. Nasty creak/groan from the front end as the truck goes over minor bumps (driveway to street transition) with the wheel turned to almost full right. (The crappy ball joints folks are typing about?!?!) Adequate power for my needs but not a rocket. 21.6 peak MPG on the highway. Lower in combination driving and with the colder weather. 4 quarts seems like a small oil capacity for an engine of this displacement. I've had 4 cylinders that took more. No grease fittings may be a concern over the long haul. Disks front and rear will make for easy rotor and caliper changes when that time comes. (Sooner than later I hear on these Mopars!) -Poor gas mileage Hey, I've known this Dak' all my life, and I love it. My pa' bought it brand new in '94, and I bought it from him and had the exterior redone. There is one fault, which, I guess, is common with the magnum engines. That is that the pistons "ping" or click when idling. This is the only trouble I've ever had, and I don't consider it a problem. Have faith in the Dak', if properly taken care of, it'll last you forever! Similar Products Used: -87 Dodge Power Ram -92 Dodge Caravan 3.9L -2000 Dodge Caravan 3.9L |

Dakota Club Cab Sport 5.2l V8
Strength:
-good looks -good size
Weakness:
-bad front ends -terrible gas mileage -poor headlight output -bad bed tie downs -minor electrical problems I purchased my Dodge back in 1999. Since that time it has been a relatively good truck but with certain problems. Gas mileage on the 5.2l engine is horrible (300km to tank). The front ball joints had to be replaced at 56k ($1250 - mechanic said that undersized and the self contained ones are horrible - replace with after market that have grease nipples). The engine's valves have pinged since day one, even with high octane fuel. The headlights on this vehicle are some of the worst I've ever seen - bad output. I have had intermittent power doorlock problems that come and go as they please. When putting the a/c on max, the venting automatically switches to floor and defrost mode and you have to keep resetting it manually. The part time 4-wheel drive light failed to operate when new. It has since been repaired but it sometimes feels like the vehicle slips in and out of 4 wheel operation at its own volition. The overall size of the vehicle is great, but would not recommend the club cab - barely large enough for anyone and very difficult to gain access. If you are looking at these trucks I would certainly look at the quad cabs. The front bed tie downs are virtuallly useless especially since I put a mat in the bed which effectively covers them. |
