Strength:

Looks great, powerful engine and handles well when not in the shop.

Weakness:

For a vehicle that was called heavy duty at the time and constructed for work which has the snowplowing prep package it''s weak!!!!!! I''m the only driver and worker in my landscape company. They tell me it''s because of my line of work. This is a cop out for building a piece of Friday afternoon junk. Service at Briar Wood stinks. Woman at GM customer service told me to do what makes me happy when I said my next truck will be a Ford. I''ve been a Chev guy from day one. I have no confidence in GM at this point. I find this real sad. I had no real problems with my 1990 until a good five years in. My 90 did have peeling paint though. ?

Large LEMON which has had the steering shaft replaced twice, wheelbearing hub assemblies twice, idler arm and pitman arm. Alternator went, drivers side electical door button on order. Seat belt wouldn''t retract, Tailgate always falls. Hopefully get through until Oct. under 60,000 km when lease is up .I''m at 47,000.

Strength:

It''s an outstanding truck

Weakness:

I haven''t seen the mileage expected yet.

Purchased the 2500hd Duramax Silverado 4X4 Have noticed rust in both front drive axels and drive line. Why is that in a brand new vehicle. What can be done? How can I go further with an investigation? When I picked it up off Whitmeiers lot I went directly to Nevada. I expected this truck to have been serviced. I was wrong. When I checked the transmission fluid it was a pint low. The tires were 30lbs underinflated and noticed it hadn''t been greesed. Not pleased with Chevy service. The technition mentioned Chevy used conditioned front ends. Any one else have the same problem?

Strength:

roomy cab, excelent brakes, smooth ride, comfortable seats,

Weakness:

None sofar

I hauled a 3000lb slidein camper coast to coast approx 9500 miles. Everything was excelent except for shifting problems when weather was hot. Sofar no resolution but just hav''nt had time to take it to local dealer. It has the 8.1 engine and allison tranny, when everything is right it is awesome, but it loves gas stations! Averaged 9.7MPG for the trip. The best I have done empty is around 12MPG but everywhere I go I have to pull major hills, 8 to 11% grades, so don''t expect much better.

Strength:

Exterior style leather heated seats sound system automatic headlights Very quite engine

Weakness:

Transmission replacement after 16,000 miles.

I purchased a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2 x 2 with the LT package. The interior of the truck is very comfortable including the leather seats. The truck has a 5.3 liter Votec V8 with more than enough power. The drive is very smooth on the interstate which is where most of the driving takes place. After 16,000 mi the transmission would not shift down to overdrive. Chevrolet''s service department had to install a brand new transmisson. I have to give the sevice deptartment credit. They ordered the new transmission overnight and gave me a rental vehicle for the day. I was back in my truck in 36 hours. Thanks to Chevrolet for eating a $2000 defect.

Strength:

It works like a truck and still looks good with reasonable gas mileage.

Weakness:

I would like an over ride switch for the automatic head lights.

I use this extended cab LS, 4.8 V8, short bed, 4X4 with trailer package and 3.73 locking differential to tow several trailers up to 6000lbs and in three years have not had one warranty problem. Only return to dealer was for very minor service bulletin recalls.

Strength:

Very powerful Very comfortable Looks great Very roomy Doesn''t drive like a tank Excellent brakes Allison rocks Towing and hauling are awesome Lots of bells and whistles Its not a ford or dodge

Weakness:

Comes with small tires Ground clearance not great, but this isn''t an issue for me. I''m not rock crawling in a truck that costs this much.

I''ve got the 8100 crew cab, 4wd, allison trans,Ls, tow package, 3.73 rear end, leather, cd, with alluminum wheels. So far my wife and I love this truck. I always have prefered japanese vehicles and am a master mechanic specializing in jap stuff. I always made fun of people that liked chevys. We test drove this truck based on reviews and the fact that it is the size we need for our family. My wife also likes the way it looks and that was a factor. It drives better than any chevy truck I have driven. The steering is tight, the brakes are firm and strong, the 8100 is extremely powerful and responsive, and the transmission is awesome. It doesn''t hunt gears and gives the feeling of a heavy duty and powerful machine. I can''t believe I bought something with this kind of gas mileage, but every time I step on the gas pedal I love it. The power is awesome. We just took it on a 922 mile (one way) trip with two kids and it was more comfortable than our Q45 except on expansion joints encountered in Alabama. Passing is on demand. I would have bought japanese if they offered something like this, but since they don''t, I feel this truck is the best choice. It was truck of the year and if it keeps performing like it is now I will be one happy camper. As for the reports about the gm mechanics, there are crummy mechanics everywhere, thats why I became one. I''ll fix my own but am hoping I don''t have any problems. I didn''t get the diesel because I have more faith in gm''s ability to build a big block than I do in isuzu, which makes horrible cars. I would recomend this truck to anyone.

Model Reviewed: Ext Cab Z71 5.3L SB

Strength:

Excellent styling, LS with adds to be an LT level trim. Every option but heated seats. No interior rattles, no fluid leaks at all, 51000 miles and going strong. I hunt with truck - high water mark is the pinstripes (actually floated it once). Driven off-road extensively in swamps of Florida, and now dust of Texas. Nothing broken, never needed an alignment, even with big tires. Comfortable ride, loaded or not. Leather has held up great.

Weakness:

I do have some minor rear differential play recently, as well as the piston slap described in other reviews. Is a bit disconcerting, but not burning oil, and you shouldn''t be revving your engine after first start on a cold day anyway. Throttle sticking is due to 2yr old dusty lubricant gumming up the works - shot of carb cleaner and relube takes care. Don''t believe the 8000# towing capacity - maybe locally it''s ok, but highway travel gas mileage goes to 9mpg. Did have the driver''s side pwr window motor go after 1 year. Think there are pwr window issues - dims headlights when depressed - winch doesn''t even do that.

Excelent truck so far. Many modifications to build size and off-road capabilities: 3" body lift, 16"x8" AR wheels, 305/75R16 ProComp Mud Terrains, DrawTite front receiver hitch, Warn XD9000i multi-mount winch, Dual 130W Explorer Stainless off road lights. Drivetrain I have is 5.3L Vortech, stock but for the Hypertech power tuning I gave it. BIG difference in power. I tow an 18'' Fish/Ski boat (+/- 4000 lbs), plus 16'' dual axle car trailer w/car (+/- 6000 lbs). Towing regularly, am considering upgrading to the Crew Cab HD2500 Duramax/Allison combo.

Built a Nissan 4x4 big, but had no towing capacity. Buddy with F150 and F250 like my truck better. Dodge is too plastic, and diesel is WAY too loud. FSuperduty rides like a Lincoln.
