Strength:
Fairly tight truck, love the crew cab..much better than an xcab. Like the HD styling. Decent seats (cloth bench LS), but nothing really stands out.
Weakness:
Gas Mileage, worst of any of my previous trucks. Turning Radius. Got a better ride once I let some air out of the tires (it is a 3/4 ton though). Wimpy hitch, to tow what the veh is rated to tow you''d have to get an aftermarket hitch to handle that weight. Don''t know why the body had to sit so high over the frame, I guess they had to match a Ford for height, looks kinda stupid unless you put a nerf bar on it to hide the frame rails. Needed a truck that could pull a 10,000# boat for my Charter Business. Last 5 trucks have been Chevy, still have 4. 3 w/ 5.7l, the new one has the 6l. Engine seems to be slightly more powerful than the Vortec 5.7, but has lousy gas mileage, nothing over single digits. Admitedly in 4x4 a lot of the time. 3300 miles, needed to be aligned right out of the box, otherwise no problems. Sounds like my $1400 for a 75,000m xtended warranty may be a good investment, hope not. strong 4.8L engine(when not in shop) looks great
Weakness:
Almost everything else PATHETIC! I''ve always been a Chevy guy, but this pile of junk has left me with a horrible taste in my mouth. It was in the shop every couple of weeks in the first year. Everything went bad...steering shaft replaced, noisy springs replaced, chrome wheels rusting, new ac unit, new throttle body, new fuel pump, the seat is not holding up. Now (40k miles) I have a growling sound under the hood somewhere, but I''m almost afraid to investigate it. Chevrolet really screwed up here. I tried talking to customer service dept. but they had no interest. I bought this truck at BAUMS CHEVROLET in Clinton IL. I tried to get it serviced at BILL ABBOTT CHEVROLET in Monticello, IL...but htey have a standard answer for everything, "sorry we can''t do anything about it" or "we weren''t able to duplicate the problem". which really means their service dept. SUCKS! But, then I started taking it to BAUMS, where i bought it(a 60 mile round trip for me). Those guys at BAUM CHEVROLET are great. They truely have the customers best interest in mind. "IF" I buy another Chevy truck, it will definitely be there. Similar Products Used: ''67 chevy c20 ''77 chevy c10 ''79 chevy c10 ''83 chevy c10 ''90 chevy 1500 w/t ''92 gmc suburban |

1500 Ext Cab 4x4
Strength:
1. Excellent power, and this one only has the 4.8. 2. Transmission ratios matched well to the engine, although I am starting to hear some noises from first gear that weren''t there in the past (only have 36k on it). 3. Sharp looker with decent paint. 4. Decent mileage 17 - 18 all the time. 5. Easy on tires. 6. Good room in the cab. 7. Comfortable to ride in.
Weakness:
1. Steering shafts a problem in this one too, and I''m convinced it will never be right. I''ve given up trying to do any more with it, although it was better after the upper shaft was replaced. 2. Wind noise, particularly the rear side windows. Dealer says there is nothing that can be done, even though it sounds like the windows are always open. 3. Cheap interior. Too much plastic. I''ve tried unsuccessfully to get seat cushions fixed. Dealer tells me they are ok even though the styroam is literally coming out of open seams. What a disappointment. 4. Constant little gremlins from lights to switches going bad. 5. Weak service departments of Chevrolet dealers. Be sure you have a good working relationship with your Chevy service department, because they WILL get to know you by first name if you buy one of these. I purchased this truck based on clean, good looks and the roomiest extended cab at the time in the market. I have had good luck with two previous Chevrolet trucks, and thought I would keep with the tradition. It only had 19k when purchased, and fortunately the warranty was still in effect. The engine is strong and the transmission is well mated to it. However, I question the build quality of this truck, and the ability of the dealer to fix problems is pretty weak. Overall, GM cut corners big time on this latest version of full-sized truck. Be a very careful shopper, get an extended warranty and plan to have your truck spend quite a few days at your choice of Chevy dealers. After two very good Chevy trucks from the mid-90''s, this one is a big let-down. Beware! Similar Products Used: 94 and 95 Chevrolet K-1500 4x4''s |

Door squicked a little I LOVE THIS TRUCK! I got this truck with a really good deal. I havent had any problems so far and I cant wait to start buying stuff for it. The only thing that was annoying was the driverside door squicked when I hit a bump just right. I applied some grease to the hinges and it went away. |

Weakness:
cheap interior, GM should be ashamed for putting this product on the market, atleast at the price they''ve asked. This is the first truck I''ve purchased although, my father has driven Fords all my life. Needless to say my expectations were high. The dealership delivered the vehicle 3/4 pint low on transmission fluid, nothing negative from that yet.Piston slap after 7K miles like other reviews, no oil use yet! I''ve pulled horse trailers and flat beds with hay at whatever speed i wanted. Lots of power!I have hauled all I wanted. However little problems every time I turn around.Replaced both pwr. window motors, door speaker fell off! Seats harder than he--!Replaced driveshaft. The tires have been good though. I''m ok with performance of truck, but I get the feeling, it won''t last long enough to pay it off. I will get to find out though because no one wants to buy it back. Similar Products Used: F-150s F-250s F-350s |

base v-6,powerful plus great gas mileage. great daily driver and can still pull a stock trailer.
Weakness:
overall brake systems I love my truck. I haven''t had any major problems. The only has been with the brake cable release. I have a v-6 engine which I''ve added a few modifications to that just makes it even better than it already was. 4X4 drains power at low rpms. looks. Very good truck, the only reason I traded my 2001 2500HD duramax ext.cab 2wd in was that sometimes I sleep in my truck before going to work. I drive 500miles to work 14/14 offshore. Buy this truck was not the best move to make. Reason:I didn''t need the 4X4(It sucked the power from the motor). The day after I bought this truck,I took it back to the dealer and we test drove two other exact trucks and the same results. We then drove my old 2001 duramax and it drove like the scalded dog. Our only conclusion was the 4wd. My only advise is to the duramax 2wheelers is to stay away from the 4wd., you will be very dissapointed, and to the duramax 4wd. folks, you don''t know what your missing. I haven''t had a load on this truck yet, but it feels like it will have more than enough power to handle any job I will need. The old truck pulled 18000lbs. as well as it would pull 1500lbs. I have friends that have 2001 dodges and fords. They hated admitting I had the better truck, now I''m embarrassed to let them drive my 2002. I feel like I''m a good judge of all the new trucks.I personally like prefer dodge and ford 3/4ton looks over chevy. Mechanical chevy duramax/Allison trans. are tops. 2002 20mpg, 2001 22mpg. Nice comfortable ride and plenty of power on demand when in a pinch.
Weakness:
Pricey!!! Gas mileage could be better, but then again it''s a V8. I''ve owned this truck for nearly a year and no major problems. Only thing I hate is the clunk coming from the rear end which many others have reported. I will be taking it back in this spring for another look. Similar Products Used: Ford |

Weakness:
everything else I have had nothing but problems with the truck. I have had the steering shafts replaced twice and the steering box replaced once and it still clunks and rattles. This truck has only 8,000 miles on it. Chevy has already replaced the lifters and they are making noise again. The emergency brake lever does not always release the break all of the way. The rubber around the window rattles on the freeway. Overall the truck just looks good. It seems that there is alot of problems with these trucks and there might be some type of class action to be taken against Chevy. I have always owned Chevy products but this one sucks. I would like to hear from other people who are having problems with this truck. Similar Products Used: 1999 silverado 1500 |
