Strength:
it's kinda strange...I like my truck but yet i can't seem to find any strengths that I like about it..has a real reliable 2.8 motor that i can trust...I once had a dream of dropping a 350 into it and making a hot-rod out of it before I found my frame rusted out...it would have made a killer little low-rider and hot-rodder on the weekends
Weakness:
shew....besides that rusted out frame the whole body is rusting out in all directions and I don't have enough money right now to spend on my truck...a paint job would be worth more than the truck is worth anyhow..all the weather-vaine strip is bad on my doors and it leaks water into the cab when it rains. my truck keeps a old musky smell to it and i can't seem to get rid of the smell no matter how much air freshener i have in it..the vinel seats and dash is cracked due to over-exposure to the sun. the passanger door is bout to fall off and will barely shut. carb is gone on the motor..when you cut it off it diesals out and back-fires black smoke which is embarrassing. this is the WORST-RIDING truck that i have ever rode in!!!..my brother-in-law's full size truck that is sitting on 38 inch swampers rides better than my truck does!! won't handle curves no faster than 50 MPH or it will try to die. motor will die on you when you go round a curve faster than 35 if you don't keep your foot on the gas. exhaust rusted out and now it has a rattle inside of it. truck WILL NOT idle in semi-cool climates..like when it's a cool morning round 50 degrees or if there is alot of moisture outside truck REFUSES to idle even when warmed up and driven for a long time..but if it's real cold or hot out it idles fine(??) tailgate broke and will not let down so now I can't haul my four-wheeler in it. even though it has been reliable and always got me to where i wanted to go i've had my share of problems from it my 1st truck..it was real good to me. I had plans to drop a 350 into it but before I could the entire truck began to rust out from underneath me. had a 2.8 with over 155,000 miles on it and it's STILL running strong. never had a problem with the motor, except that it seems underpowered and harsh on gas for such a small V6. bought it when i was 16 at a buy-here pay-here lot for a big price-tag of $2900..I knew that i got smoked but it was all I could get at the time and my little '86 ford escort was on the verge of blowing the exhausted little 1.9 motor in it. never gave me any MAJOR problems except everything rusting out underneath the truck, but I guess it was just age and the last owner never took care of it and washed it to get all the road salt and grime off the undercariage which probably let to it's rusting out... Similar Products Used: 1987 Ford Escort GL--car drove like a caddy compared to my truck when i first got it-and I traded a shotgun for it!!! but my truck does have more power than my car, and it's real sad to say that that's all my truck has on that little escort is power.....i'll probably get me another chevy truck later in the future even tho my truck is a rust bucket. but right now i'm gonna get me a sport car most likely. |

S-10 Durango 2WD
Strength:
EVERYTHING except body rust outs.
Weakness:
Body rust problems- seems to be typical of all first generation S-10 trucks in snow and salt regions. The salesman who sold it to me was a PUSHY @##hole!(not the truck's fault). I purchased my 1991 Chevrolet S-10 Durango regular cab shortbox April 29, 1993. It was equipped with the 4.3 V-6 engine, automatic overdrive, tilt wheel, air conditioning and factory bucket seat interior. In the seven years I owned this truck, I put 200, 000 kilometers on it, and it outlasted four crappy minimum wage jobs, "bar nights" beyond mention, six harsh Canadian winters and one unfaithful fiance. It never once left me stuck on the side of the road, and did all this with style and grace. I would truly recommend the Chevrolet S-10 pickup to anyone looking for a reliable small truck. There are lots of used bargains to be found. Make sure to look for the 4.3 V-6 because it is vastly superior to anything else offered from the factory. Similar Products Used: I sold this truck to buy a 1989 Ford Ranger- What a mistake!! Could I go back and do it over, I would have kept the Chevy. The Ranger has been nothing but trouble, so a comparison is unfeasible. |

Strength:
Drives nice, looks good,
Weakness:
engine, engine, engine, sucks big time.Almost want to buy a ford. no power, Sounds like a tank. very disappoined.Maybe a stick shift would have been better, but had to buy fast only 4cil. at dealership. The 4cyl. sucks other than that not a bad truck. This is my 4th s-10 but this one has really disappointed me. The engine has no power when the air is on . There's been a problem with the engine when I try to start it, it sounds like the starter is bad. The dealership has replaced the battery, and the starter and it still does it. I've had to replace the brakes and rotors on the front, with less than 35000 miles on it. 75% of the miles are highway. Similar Products Used: 90 S-10, 92 S-10, 95 S-10 |

ZR2 Ext Cab
Strength:
Love the engine. The Vortec has a peppy feel and will out perform most low end full size trucks.
Weakness:
Some areas of the truck lack the quality I expect in a truck. The windsheild wipers will quit intermittently when they are most needed. I have found that by raising the hood and tapping the wire harness they will begin working again but this is a literal pain to do during a rain storm when there is no place to turn off. Chevrolet needs to investigate this one. Many are having this problem and it happens often. The dash board will quickly deteriorate if not kept sheilded from the sun. This is a car basic I know but the S-10 seems to have a worse problem with this than most. The S-10 ZR2 has been a good truck for me and has fulfilled my basic need for a truck very well. There have been several points were I was disappointed with the trucks creature comfort quality such as the cheapened plastics on the interior but the Vortec power and robust drive train helped cure that. The 4300 Vortec is a must for any small truck owner and gives about as much power as you can expect from a compact truck. The extra ground clearance offered with the ZR2 package is nice for anyone who off-roads for enjoyment or work purposes. There has been few places my S-10 has not been able to take me and it performs and handles great on and off the road. The space behind the seats in the extended cab is a little small and the jump seats are more or less a waste of money and effort by the manufacturer. Similar Products Used: Have owned many trucks and have been most impressed with the Chevy power. The creature comforts require work. |

Strength:
not any I can think of
Weakness:
Engine is weak and of poor quality, not good in any wet or loose surface, costly repairs. Bad gas milage. Overall this truck was the worse vehicle I have ever purchased. I was desperate for a truck to haul stuff when I purchased it. I should have shoped around a bit more. I did one good thing with this purchase and that is I got an extended warranty. I bought the truck used and it ran and looked very clean. I had the under coating put on(due to the salt they put on the roads here) and bought the extended warranty from the dealership. After a month of driving it the left head light went out. I took it in under warranty and it took the dealership a whole day to replace. 6 months after buying the truck it started loosing power(no freeway speeds for a week) so I took it in and found that the head gasket had blown. It would have cost me around $1000 which was the cost of the extended warranty. They had the truck for a week and I was provided a rental car. I got my truck about a block away from the dealer and the thing started to kill and blowing white smoke like I was James Bond doing a smoke screen in one of "Q's" cars. That was the day I learned I needed to get a cell phone. I walked back to the dealer and they said they were going to charge me to tow it back and I should try to push it back if I didn't want to be charged. I called AAA(great Christmas present) and used one of my tows for the year. I sat there for another three hours and was told te come back tomorrow. They called a cab for me and I was out for three days. They had to replace it again. This is standard for the service I got from them. I replace the clutch at 40,000 miles. Alternator and cables at 65,000 miles. Another head gasket at 70,000. Finally traided in for 4,500 for my Hyundai. Another good part of this experience. Similar Products Used: none |

Weakness:
-small tires (205/75/15 M+S) (although they grip well and peel off easy) So far my S-10 has been the best vehicle that i have driven in the compact pickup class. It has awesome power, great styling, lots of towing capacity and it's a Chevy. This is my second S-10, my first was a 4 banger and didnt have enough power, so i went and traded it in for the V6, and man what a difference. You can feel the torgue as soon as you touch the gas. I test drove the Ranger and Tacoma (Tacoma to exspensive, Ranger not enough power) If you drop the auto into 3rd gear you can burn a 15 foot wheel on the pavement without a problem, which is pretty cool considering its a truck, and with a 0-60 at 8.8 sec not many compact trucks can compete. I would recomend an audio upgrade to some JL 10's or something similiar, because Chevy doesnt design their speakers to play low bass. I would also recomend a K&N air filter for the truck because it gives a few extra horses, better gas milage, and gives the engine a nice growl. I would definetly recomend this truck, but do opt. for the V6, you'll thank yourself later when you smoke the Ford Ranger at the stop light. Also you have probably read about the brakes on the S-10 being mushy, they must have fixed it on the 2000 cause mine stops on a dime. Feel free to email me with any questions regarding the truck at fatcracka@hotmail.com Similar Products Used: Silverado, F-250, not really comparable to these full size trucks |

S-10 4x4 long bed
Strength:
Solid 4-speed tranny, reliable 2.5 litre engine. I like the extra long bed.....I hauled two king-size box springs and the mattress in it, at the same time. Suspension feels strong, transfer case works very well.
Weakness:
Absolutely the worst case of Chevy rear wheel well rot on the planet....however, since the box is a medium gray in that area, duct tape does passably well in disguising it. The cab has an aggravating musty odor after a heavy rain, and rain tends to collect in the driver floorboard pan behind the seat. Had a valve cover gasket leak when I bought it, and the tailgate latch was weak, but got both fixed for under $100 very reliable, tough little truck...has about 115K on the clock Similar Products Used: No similar experience |

v6 4.3 vortec is great for getting up on the highway in a hurry and good to show off with. the truck looks good and with the highrider package its even neater.
Weakness:
The interior could be a little neater but i dont care its a truck. i like the lights and grills of the newer models better than my model. This truck is great for someone still in highschool. You cant fit too many people in it and it has a great engineand looks great. Similar Products Used: none. |
