Colorado LS Z85 Extended Cab
Strength:
Good performance, Traction control is an added strength, reliable, all areas of the truck as easy to work on.
Weakness:
ALL plastic interior looks and feels cheap, doesn't have great steering or u-turn capabilities Very reliable compact truck. If your looking to tow anything bigger than a four wheeler trailer, don't look at the colorado. Has good pick-up and power. I have had the truck 4 years and had 2 recalls, brake light and blower resistor switch. But as with any vehicle, as long as you keep ALL the fluids changed on a regular basis, it will last as long as you want it to. Similar Products Used: Ford Explorer, S-10 ZR2, S-15 4 cyl. |

Colorado 4cyl
Strength:
Good looks.
Weakness:
Poor fit and finish.
Poor fit and finish. Speakers have an incessant buzz that the dealer can't find. Two recalls so far: one for taillights and one for the intake valve seats. Very stiff ride (Weight in the back improves it somewhat) Much poorer than advertised gas mileage. (21 mpg in mixed driving. A friend with a Denali 8cyl gets around 18mpg). No key lock on the passenger side door. (Didn't seem annoying at first, but over time it becomes a real pain in the butt when your always walking around the truck just to open the passenger door. Not a bad truck overall if all you are looking for is cheap transportation/light hauling. Similar Products Used: Ford Ranger |

Strength:
It has not left me stranded yet(knock on wood)
Weakness:
Cheap/poor quality parts throughout, GM has no quality control on parts made all over the world. The worst problem is GM dealers have no clue how to fix GM vehicles. I routinely have to go to 2 or 3 dealers and call the customer relations hotline to get anything fixed. one of GM's biggest problems is with ignorant/arrogant dealerships!!!!!!! I have just recieved a letter from Detroit explaining that "some" Colorados have bad heat treatment of their intake valve springs and they will extend my paid for extended warranty to 7 years or 100,000 miles(shouldn't they just fix the problem before it breaks?) This truck has no upper end torque so the cruise control has a 7 mph swing which annoys me and anyone driving around you.Etc.Etc. This truck has had many small problems. Example: Right front window regulator, Rear view mirror temperature Inop, Radio time blacks out/cancels when starting, right headlight full of moisture, power steering pump noisey, Air conditioning problems finally found Thermal expansion valve clogged, brake switch recall, anti lock brakes grind terribly in the dirt when applied(pads are fine), major thud/snap in the front end when backing and applying brakes(I can feel it in the steering wheel), suspension squeeks, rear seat springs squeek when someone is sitting in them, four wheel drive buttons right above the radio dials so you inevitibly hit fwd by accident, door lock switches on arm rests so they are constantly opened and closed, rear cargo light is so long when in the sun for a few years it starts to curl/bend in the middle and only has two screws on each end so it separates the gasket from the cab and water pours in and soaks the headliner and back seat. Similar Products Used: I have owned three Ford trucks previous to this Colorado. The Ford trucks were all bought used and I had to change and rebuild some parts(which I expected) but this Colorado I didn't expect would be of such poor quality. |

Colorado 2 door
Strength:
You could explode into tomato pulp in the truck and you could still clean it out thanks to the entirely plastic interior.
Weakness:
As decribed above the truck is not stable. It does more than just fish tale, it flips around in circles any time you have to make a quick motion, this definitely cuts down on your chances of not colliding with someone while attempting to avoid a situation. I hate this vehicle. It feels like you are driving around a plastic Tonka truck. In addition to that even with sand bags in the back the truck feels unstable and has a tendency to pull when braking and turning. Do not drive this truck if you feel you may need to make emergency maneuvers at any point in time. Braking too quickly or turning sharply will cause the truck to spin. Good looks, reliable, fun to drive, get 42mpg on the highway, convenient and easy to get around.
Weakness:
It is cramped on a long trip. I make one round trip a month from SC to NY . 700 miles each way. It gets kind of painful after awhile. I have to stop alot just to stretch out. This is a great car for city driving. Easy to park, maneuver through traffic.

Colorado LS 4x4
Strength:
good engine performance, good pricing
Weakness:
poor manufacturer quality control, poor maybe even dangerous braking performance, poor resale value, manufacurer has poor commitment to its customers. I've owned my Colorado 4x4 for approx. 8 months and it has just over 6800 miles on it. It's going back to the dealer next week to have the the cylinder head and valves replaced for what was described to me as a cylinder misfire problem. After reviewing several owner forums it seems apparently that this is not an uncommon problem for the GM I4 adn I5 engine which is used in the Colorado, Canyon and Hummer H3 vehicles.

Colorado LS
Strength:
Interior space is great, 4 cylinder engine is peppy with manual transmission. (But that's why I insist on a manual with a 4 cyl.) Layout of gages, gear shift & comfort controls is good. AC & heat work great, better distribution than the S-10.
Weakness:
Tailgate latch design is (Chevy)characteristically poor; it was always difficult to open and failed at 31,000 miles. The dealership claimed I abused it (NOT!). I really miss that passenger-side door lock, not having keyless entry. Emergency brake cable failed prematurely. Cabin noise levels at speed are high, at low or highway speeds. I drive this truck daily to work and find it comfortable and serviceable in hauling all those items we need for our home improvement projects. My husband & I disagree on comfort and overall quality. He never liked the truck, and finds the bench seats uncomfortable. I think they are at the perfect angle, and find the vehicle a perfect physical fit. What we agree on is disliking the lack of a passenger-side lock, and the tailgate design. We have owned Chevy S-10s since 1987, and every one has had a tailgate problem. The S-10 tailgates would not stay latched after 50,000 miles. The Colorado, with 31,000 miles, now will not open, as the mechanism is broken. It did not open easily when we bought it. I also had the emergency brake cables replaced at 25,000 miles. I use the brake daily, with my standard transmission, so it did not fail from disuse. The truck has been trouble-free otherwise. The interior is austere, but suitable for us. The exterior paint chips easily, and I'm always hearing pings from stones hitting the side of the truck. Tires grab every stone, and the position of the wheels slightly outside of the body fling the stones against the side of the box. Mud flaps are a must! Chevy should put high tie-downs in the front of the box. With the manual transmission, the truck moves out briskly. Fuel economy is less than I expected. A tonneau is needed to improve mileage. It is a bit light for pulling our boat out of the lake, but a little weight in the box helps a lot. Weight in the box in the wintertime is a must.
