Strength:
Stying, Quality, Durability, Toyota and very convenient in and out of traffic. Very nice little SUV.
Weakness:
Bridgestone Duelers hums very loud after 35,000 miles, replaced with them with Cooper tires because size 215/70/16 tires are very rare. Loud/Weak Engine. Check engine light came on at 35,000 miles due to emission problems, dealer re-flashed electronic control unit and fixed the problem...actually there was a service bulletin out on this. Also there was a service bulletin out on faulty/squeaking brake pads. Picked the RAV over the highlander due to the awesome styling when it first came out. Exterior/Interior are very high quality and did i mention awesome styling? Ride is very smooth with minimum wind noise. Very nice car to be riding in the mountains and at the beach and not to mention in traffic. Similar Products Used: Toyota Tacoma |

Strength:
good interior volume, nimble handling, AWD good in snow, fun. less expensive than honda equivalent.
Weakness:
weak engine, small gas tank, stiff truck ride (but it is a truck afterall) mysterious rattles. not a great highway cruiser by comparison to the larger SUVs. An econobox ride. engine is weak on the highway but economical. reminds me of my first honda civic. it has some mysterious rattles in the dashboard area and it is only 3 months old. But I still like it. fun to drive around town, turns on a dime. I like the back door even thought it is hinged on the wrong side. the low floor at the back is great for sitting on and putting on ski boots while sheltered from the wind by the back door. easy for the dog to hop in the back as well. AWD is confidence inspiring in the snow. Toyota was surprisingly willing to deal and offer low interest financing, while honda had a take it or leave it attitude. So, we left it and bought our first toyota (after 5 hondas) This is a compromise vehicle for someone who wants reasonable economy and useful utility. I commute to work with it but really bought it for what I can stuff into it on weekends (skis, dog, kayak stuff, cottage stuff etc.) Similar Products Used: Tahoe (great truck, but getting too expensive) Trailblazer (not as good as a Tahoe, but still pretty luxurious by comparison to a RAV 4) test drove just about every SUV. |

Toyota RAV4 4WD
Strength:
Tight steering, smooth quiet ride, powerfull get up, roomy, sleek styling, at-reach a/c & audio, plenty of headroom, sits you up off the ground enough to where you down feel like you're laying down or sitting in a high rise! Feels stable when turning
Weakness:
I would really like to see it come from the factory with rubberized or plastic cargo area like the Matrix...after all it is an SUV! I've shopped around and have driven most compact to midsize SUVs. For price/gas mileage/comfort/insurance combined, I am completely satisfied. The 4cyl dual overhead cam will get you in and around town as well as up and down the mountains of North Carolina. It has a smooth ride, responsive as a go cart and is on the quieter side of highway noise. I've been on muddy, snowy, wet, curvy and dry roads and it responds to my every need. And the 27mpg is wonderful! Plus, I was driving a Ford F250 super duty with a V10 engine, so I was concerned about power and romminess! NOT A PROBLEM! I'm tall, my husband's tall...and there's plenty of room, but backseat passengers may not be as roomy as far as legroomnfor a LONG trip, yet the rear seats recline! And the deluxe cassette/CD sounds great too! BUT SHOP AROUND! You'll find great deals on these if you look and compare prices/options! I feel like I got a super deal, mine has ALL the options and super low miles/one owner. Strength:
This car is a great value for the money. Dependability, looks, overall engineering as a driver's car. My 6'4" husband can and has driven this car all day with no compaint. He loves to drive it too. Plenty of power for real-world driving. Handles accurately and with very little leaning on curves. Great gas mileage (I get around 34 mpg on the hwy). Air conditioning and heating work great. The gauge cluster is very readable and the centered accessory panel in front of my stick shift makes adjustments mostly fingertip easy.
Weakness:
My kid hates the back seat. It's not so much the lack of leg room, but the seats are sunk low, and the windows have been shrunk down to porthole size. Not for long-distance trips for the family. The car lets a bit too much road noise enter. I'm not entirely sure if at least some of this is from the H rated tires. Of course, this interferes with any quiet music you might want to listen to. The seat fabric won't wear very well, I'm afraid. My daughter had a pair of jeans with some rhinestones on the back and did some quick roughing up of the upholstery. My seats in front are black, and boy are they a trial to keep spotless. Anything, including upholstery cleaner shows up bigtime. Oh, and I've discovered that the plastic cover underneath the oil filter has these plastic clips that the oil monkeys love to tear off when you take the car in every 3,000 mi. These need replacing as soon as you discover someone at the oil/lube shop's been wiring your undercarriage up with bailing wire. I love this car. After researching quite a bit, I ordered up the 5-speed with the all-weather package and cruise control. I'm not impressed too much with fashion when it comes to interfering with function, so I nixed the spoiler. Besides it 'spoiled' the lines of the original design of the car (hah). I put about 25,000 miles a year on my cars and haven't had to take this one to see a mechanic for anything more than an oil change or basic checkup so far. No noises or squeaks yet (Right now I've about 35,000 mi on the OD) My previous Toyota was an '86 Celica. This model sounds a lot like that one while idling, but there is where the resemblance stops. The car has plenty of power for real-world driving, and it handles turns and emergency manuevers beautifully. The stock shocks feel just right, even when driving in hilly and twisty conditions and your passenger is hefty; the tires grab pretty good too, wet or dry. Yes, it looks fast. It can go fast. That's why the cruise control is important. It helps to keep a lid on tickets for me. Toyota puts a lot of thoughtful touches into its designs. That, the dependability and looks are the reasons I keep returning to Toyota. Similar Products Used: 86 Celica ST, 83 Honda Civic. |

Strength:
Lots of room in side, like that the back seats come out separate, like have a mini van, lots of power for what I need, Love the back door, great in the snow.
Weakness:
Head rests give you very poor visibilty backing up. Engine light has come on twice.....what a pain.brake noise, noice when emergency brake on. Some dealers serice is unorganized. I had a corolla wagon for 10 years and loved it. Looked at all the other suv on the market. Settle on this one because of the back door and the brand name which I trust. I have a mail route and this car is just great. Similar Products Used: 91 corolla wagon |

Strength:
The space inside, the look outside, the storage compartments in the rear of the car, and the gas mileage is great too!!
Weakness:
The ony weakness would be that it would have been nice to have a larger engine. The 4 cylinder is small, but does seem to do the job. I believe that this RAV 4 was a great purchase. I previously had a GMC sonoma (pick-up) and going from that small cab to this with four doors is great. I love this car. It hadles well with a very spacious interior. The exterior is quite attractive also. And with toyotathon going on at the moment, it was a steal. Similar Products Used: I rented a toyota camry... and I liked the say it was engineered. Thus being the only reason I even looked at the RAV 4. Good vehicle... good price. |

Strength:
I4 engine 136 hp. Nice sleek interior. Rigid outer design. And i love the stereo speakers! Cd player, cold air conditioning and heat reflection windows!
Weakness:
Weak engine v6 would be fine. Very rolloverable. Wind shield wipers are weak, tend to slow down or actually stop on pouring rain. Slips on snow and the 4wd is useless. Not a SUV its a normal sleek car i suggest. Hardly any room. Back seats fit a 13 year old child or so. Not recommended for those who have a 13-16 year old child. Get a lincoln navigator or lincoln aviater instead. If not a Suzuki Grand Vitara Limited would be nice.... This car is not a off-road type. Its a normal type car that drives on dirt roads and gravel or rocks. Your car will seriously bust if you try a fly-off! The engine is week and its not good at speed neither acceleration. Nice looking car, it is al least roomier than the Suzuki Grand Vitara. Although this car gots some serious issues. I tread easily for about a year and the enginge is in mints condition, but the problem is that i only drove 157 miles and the engine got busted. I had a tow truck to pull it away. For some reason the engine was rattling when i was on the highway. And sometimes you can hear little booms and water dripping. This car has serious repairs. The car seems to want to roll over at a turn, the shocks macpherson struts are too soft and at the rear are coil springs. This car is is a non-gas-guzzler but it sure beats my repair budget. Not recommended for those who don't like repairs. Similar Products Used: Suzuki Grand Vitara Limited, Ford Escape, Nissan Xterra, Toyota 4runner, and Honda CRV. |
