Cup-holder in front of the HVAC vents The 4Runner is the best SUV that I know of on the market(besides the Seqouia). It might have its very minor weaknesses, but hell there are others that the weaknesses are greater. The power might need some upgrading, but I don't have any problems with it. Strength:
Very «solid» feel. Great fit and finish. Smooth engine/chassis combination. Outstanding ground clearance gives the 4Runner better off-road ability than most competitors. I like the fact that this SUV didn't sell out : stiff suspension, 2-speed T-case, big tires, solid axle in the rear, body-on-frame, etc... No soccer-mom SUV here.
Weakness:
Better brakes, discs all around. More power would be nice. Since Toyota makes an electric locker, why not make it standard... After all, the whole truck just craves off-roading. I LOVE it! It's my first manual vehicle, and I like the feeling of a stick shift. The whole truck feels like it's made of a single block of billet aluminum. Quality is everywhere, from engine to suspension to dash materials. You just know this vehicle was built to last nearly forever. Aftermarket products are abundant, making it a great SUV to own if you're into customizing your vehicles. Similar Products Used: 1998 Pathfinder. The Pathfinder was wider and a tad bit roomier, and in my opinion alomst as reliable. But it definitely lacked ground clearance, aftermarket support and fuel economy was awful. I sold it because of that. If the 4Runner is a fuel-efficient SUV compared to a Pathfinder, it gives you an idea on how bad the Pathfinder is! |

SC option on the V6 is great
Weakness:
Wish I could get a different option other than a hatchback Absolutely love it! The newer Toyota V6 engines are much better than previous years, plus the shifting of the auto is smooth as can be! I have recently installed the TRD 2nd Generation SC on it and the power is tremendous! Can't say enough about it! The controls are in ideal places, with easy access to them, very comfortable ride! Solid and reliable
Weakness:
I'd like a bigger gas tank Extreemly solid and reliable vehicle. It's extreemly capable with no modifications what so ever. VSC and traction control are wonderful on glazed ice, to the point you don't need 4x4. Similar Products Used: Jeep Grand Cherokee (in the shop constantly) |

SR5 4X4
Strength:
Toyota Quality and Reputation for Reliabilty. Runs with the Big Dogs and pees in the tall grass. A real SUV not a wannabe grocery toting AWD station wagon/minivan. Built like a tank. Goes where you aim it--real tight. Industry leader in resale value. Safe--great crash test scores. Fit and finish. Simple but refined. State-of-the-art 4X4 system.
Weakness:
Headroom for tall guy's. I am 6'1" and if I was any taller it wouldn't work with the moonroof option and it's internal frame etc. Premium audio system could use a few more watts. Small sacrifices, however. Unbelievable. I was an Explorer owner for 6 years. No comparison. Like comparing a fine musical instrument to a bongo drum. Toyota rules. I have broken the code and figured it out. Even the Ford guys seemed to understand when I turned in my leased Explorer--"oh yeah 4Runners are real nice." Don't think so? Look at the resale value compared to any other SUV and it becomes crystal clear. This is a piece of equipment, solid and truck tough stem to stern. Chevy? Like a Rock? Go to the nearest Chevy/Ford/Dodge service bay and see the chaos and then check out your local Toyota service dept. I guarantee you will see the difference. Similar Products Used: Explorer: Terrible resale value, horrible gas mileage. Hey, you've seen the news. Recalls, Firestone tires, etc. Toyota Rules!!! |

Strength:
4x4 capabilites, rear locker, Toyota quality and familiarity.
Weakness:
Might be a little cramped with 4 passengers on a long road trip, but I don't know from personal experience. The 4Runner does everything I want it to do! It's been taken through many difficult 4x4 trails. It's also done very good travelling to and from L.A. at 75 MPH through the big hills at/near Baker in the heat of the day (100F+). The "Highlander" package on the 4Runner, which includes the fake but good looking hood scoop, is what made me drop the cash on this vehicle. Definitely worth the money I paid for it and a nice upgrade from my 1996 Tacoma! Similar Products Used: None |

Multiuse reliability
Weakness:
gas tank size Excellent multiuse vehicle. It's good to know this thing has a proven, reliable history behind it. It could use a bit more juice and bigger fuel tank, but it really makes up for those things in other areas. Plus the money you save on repairs and time can be used to buy a TRD supercharger (for those road racers out there). As for me, I've been extremely pleased with the fit and finish and overall ability. Similar Products Used: Montero |

Reliablity & Looks
Weakness:
Small gas tank It has been a solid vehicle overall. I've driven in good and bad weather plus on and off road. It has excelled in all areas. I liked the optional 4x4 which I believe has contributed to better gas mileage during fair weather operations. It could use more power from the V6, but it's fine for most use - not made for racing;) Similar Products Used: 96 Jeep GC Ltd |

Re-sell value, fit and finish, ride quality. For those who like to go offroad, it is easy to make modifications, not that it needs any.
Weakness:
None The best, most reliable SUV on the road today. The 4Runner will get you where you want to go, no questions asked. It's not a 4 wheel drive minivan like most other SUV's, it is definatley the real thing. Similar Products Used: In my line of business I drive every SUV on the market, the Toyota 4Runner is unarguably the "Best in class". |

Strength:
Sheet metal fit, paint quality, ground clearance is highest in it's class of mid size SUV's. Excellent 4WD system.
Weakness:
The 3.0 engine is a little lacking in power. Top notch quality all the way through. Even though this rig is 10 years old, it was ahead of it's time when it was built. Similar Products Used: Nissan Pathfinder, nice, but no match for the 4Runner quality wise. |
