Good Looks Comfortable Ride Great Visibility 3rd Row Seating Smooth 4WD system

Weakness:

Poor Gas Mileage Poor Resale Value – If you keep it, who cares? Poor OEM Tires

Great vehicle so far. No problems (knock on wood)! I purchased this truck because it has the 3rd row seat and did not look like a MV. Wife loved the way it drove as did I. One of the best looking SUV’s on the road. I got the gold with gray leather. I have always used synthetic motor oil since new. Huge difference in power and smoothness. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone!

Strength:

Quick for a mini Suv. Comfortable ride and decent sound system. Very reliable.

Weakness:

Better gas mileage.

I have had the Grand Vitara now for almost 4yrs without any problems. Nice on the hwy with good acceleration. All instruments work great and CD changer is wonderful. Just wish it came with a sunroof and could stand to get better hwy mileage.

I purchased my Vitara on pure looks and style and have put a lot of mile on my vehicle. I am pushing towards 80K and I am having my first set of problems. I must say I am not happy about the problems but I guess any vehicle could have such a problem. I have a rear main seal leak and it is major, I am being told by the the dealer that the estimated cost is approximately just under $700. I have maintained the vehicle maintenance as suggested by the manufacturer. The one major problem that I have is the value of the vehicle.

Weakness:

* Needs more power, at least 220 hp. * Intermitten wiper control on rear window. * Dash lighting that light up the rear wiper, outside mirrors, driving light controls. * More stable front end alignment. * Glove box light. * Steering wheel radio and cruise controls. * Not so pricey. * More interior lighting.

I still have my Grand Vitara. Love it. But the guy in Allen Texas is right, Manuel Suzuki is the worst. VERY POOR SERVICE. Even on the Dodge pickup we bought there. I believe Suzuki pulled their line of vehicles from them. All they have now are the Chrysler products.

Strength:

Very solid, nicer looking on inside & outside than the Honda CRV & Toyota Rav4.

Weakness:

Rear end gear noise still a problem after 3 years on brand new XL-7 and Grand Vitara's. Poor resale value. Tires wear too quick due to alignment. No follow-up or returned calls from the regional Suzuki Factory Rep.

I purchased my Loaded 1999 4x4 Grand Vitara brand new. The read diff had a bad roor in it, so loud it was hard to drive. I took the GV to Manuel Chrysler-Suzuki in Richardson, Texas for repair. It took them two months to get a bottle of sympatheic rear diff gear lube. This did not correct the problem. Also the vehicle was chewing up the tires at an alarming rate. By the time the vehicle reached 9500 miles all four tires were bald and the rear diff problem was still not repaired. At one time the General Manager of Manuel Chrysler-Suzuki told me to take my GV back to the dealer that sold it to me, that any Suzuki Dealer would be glad to fix it. I told him I was there asking him to fix it and he said he didn't want to. I went thru three Suzuki Factory reps during my venture to get it repaired to no avail. Only one of them would call be back. Finally after several visits to Manuel they replaced the rear diff gears and my rear end noise was gone but I still had the tire wear problem. Soon after that I traded in the vehicle and took a bath on the resale value of it. I recently bought a brand new 2002 Suzuki XL-7 Touring with 2-wheel drive from Passport Motors in Plano, Texas. At 400 miles I had to return the XL-7 to Passport Motors due to the rear diff having a the same problem as my 1999 Grand Vitara did. Passport Motors replaced the rear diff without any arguement and they were very professional about it. I believe Suzuki vehicles are very good ones, I just feel that the techs aren't out there to repair the ones that need it. Hats off to Passport Motors in Plano Texas!

Strength:

Basic maintenance parts are cheaper than most import cars. Driving is very comfy and spacious. Gas Saver!!!!!

Weakness:

Couldn't find any.

I bought our 1995 Suzuki Sidekick JLX model from my Uncle for $3000 (awesome deal) with 94k miles. This SUV has never given us any problems and ride is smooth and leg room are great specially in the back seat. Bottomline, you can never go wrong with this vehicle.

Strength:

-Nice styling -Good speakers -Love the 4x4 -quiet -Lovely V6

Weakness:

-The steering is a bit unsensative in high speeds. -The back seats are a bit hard but there's lots of room except for the small boot. -No remote to open the doors.

Wonderful car. We live in the country and have really good use of the 4x4 system. It's a bit hard getting the V6 in 1st gear to drive away without having to do it again.

Have got a 1991 Suzuki Vitara with canvas top. Drives well but is noisy in high speeds. Very robust cars although!

Strength:

V6 that loves to be driven hard...30K plus hard miles without a hiccup. If you can handle a clutch and stick, you can smoke all the competitors and climb rocks for fun. At 50, I find the vehicle comfortable and enjoyable.

Weakness:

The stock tires are lousy...and for some reason the resale value is not what it should be. Won't sell anyway...

Traded in a 95 JLX for a newer more substancial vehicle. Considered some of the small competitors but wanted another true 4x4. The GV is a great compromise between comuting and weekend exploring. Like the small blocks of old...this little V6 likes to be driven at higher rpm's.

Model Reviewed: Grand Vitara GLX+

Strength:

Styling, fit and finish, overall build quality, materials. Good on and (moderate) off-road handling, bad weather performance. Nice 6-CD changer sound system.

Weakness:

Engine could be a bit stronger and less noisy, gearing is too low. Wheel hop on rear axle over small bumps. Carpeting is hard to clean. Resale value.

Our 5-speed V6 Grand Vitara GLX+ is actually on a 3-year lease, which will end on the 15th of October. Although I had been a little bit reluctant about getting a "Suzuki", -for me, a product of the seventies, it still rang as a bike brand, not a car manufacturer-, my wife and son convinced me because of its (relative) cuteness. A test drive and an options examination showed promise in terms of power, handling and (initial) value. Interior space, while comfortable for an SUV is relatively small, but it is after all a compact vehicle. After almost three years experience with it, and northern US winter driving, I declare myself quite satisfied with the Vitara. Nothing ever went wrong with it either mechanically nor cosmetically, one recall was promptly handled by the dealer, service costs are excellent save for the 30,000 mile one which set us back 309 $'s!, as pretty much every fluid onboard had to be replaced (engine, manual transmission, transfer case, front and rear axle lubricant, cooling system and oil, gas, oil & air filters). Had the XL-7,introduced last year, had a different styling than the GV, besides being mainly longer, I definitely would have considered staying with Suzuki. But being one(s) who like(s) change, we're going this time with yet another SUV but of another brand, -much to the consternation of the local Suzuki salesman (I stopped by the other day to arrange for the end-of -lease vehicle return...). I did find, however, during our search for its successor, that the resale value of the GV is'nt too great; in fact, not one of three other dealerships we visited did want to take it in as a trade because of its current market value, well below the residual on the lease contract. We've been happy with the Grand Vitara, it has served us well, we definitely recommend it as small SUV good buy.

Strength:

A nice smooth V6 165hp, 2 rear drum brakes and 2 front ventilated disks! A shift-on-the-fly 4wd lets you choose 2 wd, 4wd on just a pull. This is a great car! Better then the Toyota Rav4 and the Honda CRV.

Weakness:

Poor sound quality, the cd player is where it should not be, cargo area is a little outgoing, Very cheap plastic for interior and cardboard for the interior roof! Isn't that just cheap! Also the buttons for cruise is not where it should be, its placed on a dashboard. Either then that it is a dream Suv!

Its a nice good looking car! Nice smooth V6 engine more then 165 horses and air conditioning! I like this car drove it on snow, sand, rocks, gravel, rain and seriously had no problem! Its roomy interior is very handy and repair costs are low. Plus its the first to be built on a ladder box frome for greater durablility!
