Gas mileage

I purchased the 2.5 pvez emmission outback in the beginning of June. After the first month the first start in the morning the car seems like it is going to stall out for a while but seems to kick itself to life. The rest of the day the car is fine. I bought the car in Queens but get it serviced in Riverhead. They kept it for two nights and confirmed that the start is a rough one. The answer was that they all do that. Is there anyone out there that has the same problem. I wonder what the start will be like in zero degree weather. Also the car's engine is very loud. Design inside car is very awkward, knobs on the smallish side. There is no where to put loose change.

The only thing that I like about the car is the good gas mileage.

My original review of this car was excellent, but now that i have been driving it for a few months my opinion has changed. Yesterday my nephew was exiting from the back seat and as he stepped out he knocked off the trim piece under the door. i was shocked. I mean this is an off road vehicle and they glue on the trim. Give me a break. Also, it seems to be noisier for some reason. I have never like the tilt wheel. It just moves up and down a few inches, but it DOES NOT TILT. IT IS A CHEAP WAY TO MANUFACTURE IT and it really isn't functional, plus in the lower position it completely blocks out the instruments. i don't think i will have it for a very long time. i made a mistake in not buying the equinox.

i have had this car for a few months now and i have some comments. I reviewed this car as a 5 star but now i am going to give it a lower rating. Yesterday my nephew was getting out of the vehicle and he stepped out and knocked off the bottom trim. From what i was told it is held on by an adhesive and two clips. I would think they could have secured it in a more positive manner. Now that i have driven it for a whle i noticed it does have a definite whine from the CVt and i could not say that it is a quiet car. I still hate the wheel, When it is in the low position you CAN NOT read the instruments. That is a poor design and the wheel itself just doesn't sit right, but that is my personal opinion and man not affect your driving position. I am kind of wishing that i bought the Equinox.

Avoid this car. The car has a very disturbing wheel shake problem at highway speeds. The problem is present in both 2010 and 2011 models.

I have the 3.6R limited model, it great move it around northeast with the snow we had on the month of Feb. It give me lot of controls on the road. Power have no question on 3.6R, it move when you needs it on any conditions.

Side mirrors do not fold back and the GPS systems is hard to work with, maps memory on the system are on 3 DVD Rom disc.

It is a good all around driving conditions.

All wheel drive is great, fit and finish and paint very good, interior materials excellent, performance great for what it is, maintenance free pretty much.

Slight rattle in glove box trim panel, slight rattle in sunroof sliding cover,
Emergency braks vinyl boot has lttle tear in it and happens on all of them,
GPS lighting starts out dim if the car isn't driven much but does brighten up, Fuel door opener in bad place near entrance from drivers side on floor can get dirty and scrathed up, light carpeting arounf left foot rest gets dirty because the rubber is too narrow, Needs arm rests on both front seats. Air conditioning on the LL Bean version digital and goes down only to 65 degrees should be 60 but it seems most of the time cool enough. I am obsessive about my cars so some of these weaknesses may not bother others.

I have owned over 75 cars and I am a car collector of sorts. Our BMW X3 which we used for inclement weather came off lease and we were looking foir a vehicle that would do the same thing as the BMW. I never thought of purchasing an Outback. I found the LL Bean version for sale at a Dealership in Connecticut. The car was turned in with almsot no mileage on it so my wife and I went to the Dealer from Long Island to just look. We ended up buying it on the spot. Out of all the cars I have ever owned I must say that the Outback is one of the best specimens we have ever had. There is almost nothing I can find wrong with the vehicle. I was so impressed I went back to the dealer three months later and bought a preowned 2.5 for our son in college. On balance I think that Subaru may be the best Japanese car company. Owned by Fuji Heavy Industries the car drives beautifully, the all wheel drive is probably the best, the interior materials are German like and the fit and finish is quite good. We are very pleased with both cars and highly recommend the vehicle to any one looking for a vehicle like the Outback.

I really have never owned or leased any thing like a Subaru Outback.

Good handling, fits a lot for a smaller suv, ours has lasted almost 175,000 miles with relatively few repairs, decent gas mileage. Overall a good car for the money.

Weak on hills, poor turn radius.

We have had our Outback since 2001. It had about 15,000 miles on it when we bought it. It now has over 173,000 miles. It has been a great car. You can fit a lot of stuff in the back, it handles well in the snow (most of the time we've owned it, we have lived in an area that gets a lot of snow), it is comfortable and has remained as comfortable as the day we bought it, it handles well, and gas mileage has been good. On the down side, it has a poor turn radius and strains going up long grades.

We haven't had any of the wind noise problems that some of the other reviewers have had, but the car is definitely not as quiet as newer vehicles. On the maintenance side, we have had a recurring power steering pump problem. Initially, when we replaced the timing belt (around 80,000) it came out of the shop with a noisy power steering pump that quickly failed. We recently replaced the timing belt again at the end of 2008 (at about 170,000 miles) and the pump is failing again. It's not an expensive fix, so it hasn't been a huge issue. We've also replaced the radiator, a cv joint, and oxygen sensor. Otherwise, it has been relatively low maintenance. At this point it is due for new shocks, but even with that coming up, I don't consider what we've had to do as excessive considering the mileage on the car.

Quiet ride. 17 inch wheels looks so much better than the 16s of previous models.

Way too many ticks and rattles coming from various places. The sunroof rattles on and off and there's been a tick/rattle coming from the rear cargo area that drives me crazy. Too many rattles for such a new car. They all started almost from day one. This is ruining an otherwise good car.

Overall a good car. Nice styling inside and out. Very quiet highway ride. Love the huge sunroof, leather, leather wrapped wheel. SRS WOW on stereo greatly improves sound quality - just make sure you turn it on.

AWD, manual transmission, looks nice, handles better than you think it would and faster than you think too.

Brakes are terrible with semi metallic suggest upgrading to better rotors and brake pads preferrably ceramic or kelvan fiber.

This has been a good car but needs good tires and brakes to really make it handle and stop. Goes through the snow good and gets good gas mileage because the manual transmission. Owned a 1997 legacy gt with an automatic transmission was going out after 135,000 miles.

I bought the Subaru Outback LL Bean 3.0 edition after driving every possible AWD sports sedan on the market. I traded in my 3 season luxury vehicle (2005 Cadillac CTS) for a 4 season AWD Subaru that is a safe fun practical luxurious sedan. The Caddy was absolutely terrible in the snow--Drove the AWD BMW...did nothing for me...drove the Audi...liked the A6 but price was a factor plus reliablility questions...almost bought the Infiniti G35X--but did not like how adjustable dash reflected in glass, too low, hood bulge distracting, but this was the next best thing but it was 12000 more--try the Subaru LL Bean-- has all the right features with an engine that is silky smooth--it's the best.
