Strength:
the sound system with 6 cd changer is way better then expected for a stock feature. Its a good fair price for a sub-compact car with AWD.
Weakness:
The front cup holders are not at a good spot to accomadate front passanger and driver. The rear hatch/trunk space with the back seats up is way smaller area then in the wagons. The back row seat can only handle 2 car seats, and will only fit 2 adults. It could use a better geared transmission for pulling out onto major highways,as it takes it to long to get moving. Its not as good in snow as the wagons with the shorter wheel base. If your looking for room and you have children, go for a Subaru Wagon.I drive in all kinds of whether all 365 days a year. And the tires you place on your car mean everything in handeling in the weather, your driving abbility is secound. Its not a bad car, nothing fancy and its not stylish for the 30 and under group. Subaru Forester 2.5X
Strength:
Excellent gas mileage I average 31 since I bought it. Improved dash visibility and ride. Easy controls to use and understand. Base engine provides more than adequate power for country driving although I have not towed my boat with it yet. easier to get into and out of than my wife's 07 model. Noticeably quieter too.
Weakness:
Handling not quite as precise as our 07. No lumbar support in the base model, I didn't notice this until after I bought it. I really regret that although the seats are slightly better than the older one. I do like the improved ride but kind of miss the sports car handling. Strange that it has dual exhaust but the horsepower and torque remain the same. I am happy enough with the four speed auto but I do think that with the amount of power it has that it could not be quite so eager to shift down. This is not the car (the 07 we already have) I fell in love with. It is a nicer car but not as much fun to drive. Better for long distance driving than the older models though. Cramped interior
I bought my Forester new five years ago, hoping to keep it for at least this long and hopefully longer. The '06 body style is smaller than the current one, and I bought it in spite of the cramped interior since I drive it solo 90% of the time. But after this long, the road noise and vibration level has grown tiresome even after changing to a tire that was supposed to make it quieter and smoother (it didn't). Don't get me wrong, it's a good car as long as you accept it for what it is - a small Japanese car with a firm noisy ride. I live in Florida where the AWD doesn't have much use, so it's as useless as 4WD to me. Maybe I'm getting old, just give me a quiet smooth roomy ride that doesn't cost a fortune or break down. Very disappointed with Subaru. We bought this car brand new in Nov 1992. The car has had several problems making the total cost of ownership alot more expensive than other comparable products in the market. The most recent problem with our Subaru is the sunroof. The dealer is quoting approx. US 2000 between labor and parts to have it fixed. We barelly use the sunroof making it unnaceptable that the product would fail the way it did. Not long ago we spent approx. US 3000 fixing the Subaru engine. This is not reliability to be proud off. This Subaru product has been a complete disappointment. After the experience with Subaru we will most likely switch to a more reliable brand. In addition Subaru has been a very expensive product to maintain.

Lack of power on the steep hills
I saw where a reviewer complained about having problems driving on snow covered ice. I must say you need either chains or studs to do that. I was caught in a blizzard in Tahoe at a ski resort where they plowed the parking lot and placed a 2 foot snow berm against the bumper of the car. After 2 attempts in low gear, I punched through the snow bank. Yes I had problems on a hill with ice but I attributed that to no chains. I went through very large areas of water on the highway at 60mps and the car did tract right on. Similar Products Used: Lexus RX399 |

Strength:
Smooth power with the turbo. Sports car handling. Higher safety ratings than most SUVs.
Weakness:
Change the tires. They're the weak link to great handling. Great, great car. Big inside, small outside. Much more practical alternative to an SUV. |

Good gas mileage.
Weakness:
Lack of traction control and anti-lock in winter weather. Pathetic AWD capability. Funky wiring issues. WAAAYYYY uncomfortable for road trips longer than 45 minutes. The back seat has 3 seat belts but will NOT fit 3 normal size people. Cannot fit 3 car seats in back - parents beware. Tan cloth interior impossible to keep clean with children and dogs. Engine lugs and bucks in 1st and 3rd gears. DO NOT DRIVE THIS CAR IN SNOW OR ICE!!!! I have twice wrecked my stupid car in winter weather. Today I was toodling through my subdivision at about 5 mph in the snow. I crested a hill and started a slow descent when much to my chagrin, the snow on the roads had been packed to ice and alas I began a slow motion slide. The angle of the slope was steep and I knew that the momentum would pick up quickly and I would end up barreling into a house or another vehicle before my car would stop the slide. Having my 3 yr old and 2 dogs in the backseat, I had no choice but to pull the e brake and throw the car into the ditch at the side of the road. It is stuck now, possibly totaled since the front and rear bumpers are both embedded in the ground. We were not hurt. This is the second time this stupid all wheel drive car has failed me when I really needed it to function like it is supposed to! As I sat in the ditch pondering my situation (3/4 of a mile from home with 2 dogs and a toddler in 28 degree weather) I watched a MINIVAN sucessfully traverse the very same icy road that had become my demise. WTF!?!?! A Subaru (supposedly the AWD vehicle to end all) got spanked by a stupid 2wd minivan. I am disgusted. I hated the size and lack of comfort in the car but this is just icing on the cake. Also my stereo has been possessed since I bought the thing brand new off the lot. The volume likes to go up and down on its own. Gas mileage is good 28 mpg on average. I have put 50k on the car in 2 years and no major breakdowns except for it failing to behave in slippery conditions. I'm done with the Forester though. See Review plus flimsy plastic parts that do fall off (the bottom protector pannels under door) I purchased my Subaru Forester in the summer of 2003. I live in Maine and was looking for somehting safe and reliable since I need my car for my work. I was in love with the car when the dealership let me take the car home overnight for a test drive. It drove wonderfully!

Stability, nice drive, safety, roomy (people complain about the back seat not being roomy but I think it's fine). I'm no car expert but I love this car. It's actually fun to drive.
Weakness:
Lousy cup holder placement in the front seat and yes, it does buck at lower RPMs. So far my fuel consumption has sucked. This is a good vehicle. It handles beautifully and has a great turning radius. This is my first AWD and I can't believe the difference it makes as I live in the country. It's comfortable inside, but not glitzy. Similar Products Used: I test drove a CRV, Jeep, and Highlander. Good ride , AWD , Good gas milage (26 MPG) Plenty of room , Car has enough power to cruise 70 miles an hour all day
Weakness:
Not real happy with the electrical problem but still would but another Forester. Also the cloth on the front seat ripped in the 1st year. I really like my Forester. Good gas milage. Comfortable.AWD. plenty of room and a nice ride.I drive 35 thosand miles a Year and I just put it in the shop for the first time. The fan motor, heater motor and the wireing harness all went bad at the same time.It is going to cost me 300 bucks to fix but this is the first thing I have done to my Forester in 3 years other than normal maintenance. Really not to bad if you consider that I have 102750 miles on it so far.I think I will probably buy another Forester when I need another car.
