Strength:
Strong reliable powertrain.
Weakness:
Power Window motors are crap.
Bought this truck for my wife. It has the 3.5L 240hp V6. Fuel economy on the highway is pretty decent. In the city is like any other SUV. We get about 250 kms to a tank of gas in the city and about 400 kms on the highway if you go 100 kph or less. Overall the powertrain is great. Quiet truck. Great offroading capabilities. Lots of ground clearance. Had some little irritances like the power window motors die or act up. The passenger side window will only go up if you pull the window switch halfway. The rear windows take about 20 secs to roll up. Then there is the dreaded window moulding rust. All Pathfinders are prone to this. The mouldings on the windows rust and replacements cost $125 cdn a piece. Ride is kind of floating and doesn't inspire confidence. Emission crap throws a check engine light. Truck runs fine but the the fuel fumes cut valve bypass valve failed. all said and done its still more reliable than our past GM vehicles. Except for the GMC Yukon. That was truly a great truck. Oh and I'm told that our front struts will need replacing soon. UGH! Similar Products Used: Chevy Trailblazer

Strength:
Good power. Good looks. Good ride.
Weakness:
CD player stopped working within 50,000 miles. Terrible problems for 3 years now with the "check engine" light. Replaced catalitc convertible to the tune of $1,200 only to have the light come back on a block down the street. Can't register because it can't pass smog. $3,000 into it and it still won't smog and 6 mechanic shops (including the dealership) can't find problem. Wiring problems too. Short the dealer can't find. Doors won't lock anymore on command, put lock and unlock on their own when I'm driving. Lots of crazy making! I live up a very steep hill in Carmel Valley and the Pathfinder has been great in climbing that hill for the past 6 years. Also have had daily newspaper routes for 5 of those years and the Pathfinder was wonderful. Now at 145,000 miles and problems are happening. Similar Products Used: Subaru Forester. |

The ride is softer than my Maxima. Fit and finish is outstanding within the price range.
Weakness:
Gas milage was terrible for the first 6 months. It finally settles down at 20+ MPG on the highway. I have driven my Pathfinder ChilKoot for 2.5 year and am totally satisfied with it. Great value for a brand new SUV at CAD30,000 and trouble free driving. |

Gas Mileage Driver and passenger windows go up and down slow Weak bumpers Love The power and the looks, weak a/c when its hot, check engine light is stuck on, heard it was common with this year, only 1 mechanical problem since bought, mass air flow sensor went out, also common with this year. I really like the bose 6 speaker sound system, it sounds great. Strength:
-Excellent reliability from 76k to 109k (which is when i wrecked her) -comfortable interior- i love the height of an SUV and the driver's area was roomy yet secure.i am 5'4" but my 6' boyfriend could drive it with no problems. -great sound from stock speakers (see note in weaknesses about CD player tho) - very spacious cargo room..i hauled TONS of stuff back and forth to college without a problem - seats are pretty comformatable, not too stiff but yet supportive -fairly quiet, although a little noisy (wind and engine) at highway speeds -back seat was roomy enough for four college students, a little snug but we didnt care. -no major blindspots that i found -held up remarkably well in spite of constant abuse (ie - college parking lots, little fender benders that got fixed, lots of stop and go driving in a collge town) -I loved the sensitive steering. Granted, that might have been what helped further my accident, but i always felt like i didnt have to work hard to turn her and she was very responsive. -her breaks were excellent! i could just tap them with my big toe and we would slow down. i felt very safe and capable of stopping -good pickup (but I am a girl, a guy might disagree haha) -the interior (cloth, tan) seemed to hide stains (or repel them?) remarkably well
Weakness:
-CD player started to stop working when it was really hot, which usually happened after i had been driving her for over an hour in the texas heat. It was a stock one that I was planning on replacing when it finally went. -Horrible mileage. i think the best i EVER got was 19 mpg. lol. we averaged about 16mpg. -Rollover risk (but that is with any SUV) -cloth interior started to fray a little on the driver's side, but i just did a little sewing and fixed her right up! ....I can't think of anymore. She was a Great vehicle!! may she rest in peace.. I loved my Pathfinder! I am using past tense because I no longer have her (I killed her) so I guess this is more of a eulogy. I killed "Goldie" in a rollover wreck about two weeks ago, and I am SO sad to see that SUV go. She had 109,000 miles on her and she probably had another 100,000 easy. I had her for 30,000 miles (over 4 years) and never had ANY problems with her. I think the fact alone that i am writing this now is testament of how good of a car she was. I must warn you all to NOT overcorrect if you run off the road a little in your pathfinder or any suv. You must slow down and get back on the road at a LOW speed or else you will very likely roll the suv. I had no choice because it was either get on the road fast or hit a guardrail and go flying into a lake. at any rate, we rolled about 4-5 times, all the windows shattered except the middle pair (but not in shards, in little pebbles that barely cut me--good feature, Nissan!) and the driver/passenger "cage" stayed in its shape but the rest of the car absorbed the impact as it was supposed to and kinda crumpled. It had no side airbags which would have helped with me getting slammed into the side of the car with every roll, but, like i said, i am here and alive and typing today. I had my seatbelt on which probably saved me, but she really protected me extraordinarily well! She is totaled which i am SO sad about...i loved that SUV. Now the search is on for a new car for me. I probably will not get another pathfinder ONLY b/c of how bad the mileage is (I’m a college student) and i am just a little jittery about SUVs, but that is certainly my own fault. Nissan makes qualities cars, or at least pathfinders, and I think all the ooooold pathfinders you see on the road today is also testament of what great cars (think reliability!) they are. I would definitely recommend anyone who wants an SUV to strongly consider the Pathfinder. See me pros and cons below for specific reasons Similar Products Used: nothing..this was my first car!! |

Strength:
Easy to drive, comfortable, dependable.
Weakness:
That check engine light is annoying! Turning radius is like driving a tank! But other than that, it's a good car. Great car, 95,000 miles - have only had gen'l maintenance, brakes at 84,000, the CD player broke at about 60,000 - just had that repaired for $215. But the ck eng lt came on at 61,000. Already invested $200 only for it to keep coming on. Will not return to the GA dealership that could not fix it for good. Weakness:
Sold by Douglas Nissan - I had no idea that the 6-CD in-dash came standard until AFTER I bought the vehicle WITHOUT the CD in-dash. - nice. Plus, buying a car there is like buying at a circus. lame. They actually wanted me to "ring a freakin' bell" after I purchased the vehicle. NOT! Right window goes down about 1/4 when you hit the auto up button. Check engine light came on. Mechs say everythings fine, however the light stays on. They think it is emissions. light has been on for last two years. If I see smoke, I'll be more concerned. Heating / A/C works like a civil servant, only works sometimes. I surf, snowboard, ride ATV's and go camping. I also have a family of four. This vehicle fits our needs perfectly. It tows my ATV trailer with no problems. I can get deep into the desert or up the mountain with no problem. (however, snow chains are a MUST in the mountain) I've put 45,000 miles on it in two years and the performance of the motor (which is my favorite aspect of the vehicle) is exceptional. It's rugged, strong and versitle. I average about 20 mpg. Not too bad for all that power. I could not be more pleased. Merging onto the freeway is nothing. One of my favorite stories is when I was out with a friend and he was looking at the Chevy Silverado. Nice truck. However, he asked about the V6 model. The dealer told him the motor was a 4.7 liter V6 that puts out 200 hp. I nudged my friend and said, my pathfinder V6 3.5 liter gets 240 hp. More power, better gas mileage. This vehicle does not come without flaws though. I've had a check engine light on for two years now. I had it looked at and the mech turned it off and said he did not find any problems. Well, after paying $60 for the guy to check it out, the first time I started up my car again, the light came back on. Also, the Heating and A/C sometimes works, sometimes not. There is also a weird thing with my right front side window. It goes all the way up, then comes about 1/4 down automatically. There is always something.....But, even with this little annoyances, I love my pathfinder. |

Strength:
Nice engine. Good driving position. Comes with toys like compass and outside temparture.
Weakness:
Poor owner's manual compare to Acura. Should come with towing hitch build in the bumper (which is in the 05 model and most other SUV at this price level) Rear brake is not disk. I bought the Chinook edition which is only avaliabe in Canada. The before tax price is CAN$29,700 and I think it is an excellent deal. It comes with sunroof, security, running board, roofrack, full size spare, power window, security and of course 3.5L V6 4WD. The only thing I wanted is leather seat but no availabe in the Chinook and the LE is just too expensive for me. I traded in my Acura 1.6 EL for the Pathfinder and I have no difficulty adjusting to this truck. Fun to drive, very good view of the road, powerful. The Bose radio is okay. Low gas milage is expected as I did many research before I decided to buy this car. This is my first Nissan and first SUV and I love it. Many people complain about the headroom and small padels and distance between the padels. I am 5 feet 11 and a half and I have no problem with head room. I am used to Japanese cars so I have no problem with the padels either. Similar Products Used: My father's X-trail which is okay. Too much plastic and overpriced. |
