Strength:

most everything

Weakness:

tire wear-- OE Brigstones replaced at 22,000 miles--went with Michlin XC

Thought I would do an update due to recent experience with snow. We had a record 20.3 inch snow last tuesday. Lucky me had recently replaced the tires which were down to wear indicators all around. I live at the top of a steep driveway that goes into a cul de sac and then up another fairly steep street. My RX is 4wd , but W/O the limited slip diff that is a usual option. As soon as the snow tapered off, I was able to go down the drive and up the street to the main road with no problem although the snow was deeper than the door sill by several inches. Used the RX every day until two days ago when I went back to my GS. Sleet, ice , it went without any major slides. It may not be an offroad vehicle, but it will take care of whatever the road and weather offer.PS--the user that says the stereo has no bass is either deaf or the sub is disconnected.

Strength:

Heated seats, auto climate control (sort of), Auto Up/Down windows, nice easy ride

Weakness:

Rattles, customer service, 4wd not as sophisticated as ML. Poor handling and a lot of wind buffeting

Paid 39K. Loaded 4X4. Been having a lot of rattles, but the engine seems solid. Overall a pretty good vehicle - I had a 98 ML320 for comparison. I dont think I will buy another one though - It has good interior room, the auto climate control seems week compared to my wifes BMW. Gas mileage around 19. Ride is real nice and smooth, but the handling really pays - worst part is wind buffeting on the highway. Customer service is another issue - MB has em beat here. I bought this because I heard how great Lexus was - wrong, I have had better service and treatment from a ford dealer.

Strength:

Smooth ride, AWD, luxurious interior, 1st rate build quality, quiet as a sedan, good handling.

Weakness:

Can use more power (V-8?), small cargo space, small towing capacity, weak tires.

A new hybrid SUV that is very comfortable to own and operate. Smooth and quiet as a luxury sedan. Solid craftsmanship and very safe. Great stereo. Can use a bigger engine in the future (V-8?) with bigger tires and larger towing capacity---to compete with ML 430 and BMW's new X-5. (leasing it for $600/mo for 38mo., 15K mi/yr, no money down)

Strength:

Thr RX was every bit as good as I expected. Lexus Quality cannot be beat and the Customer Service Excellent! Good MPG and the ride is so smooth. This is my 4th Lexus and I have been very happy with all of them.

Weakness:

Wind noise / buffiting when the windows are down. Would have liked the back window to open without opening the back door

Overall an EXCELLENT vehicle

Mine was loaded (about $40,000) but I paid dealer cost (around $36,000)

Strength:

overall quality and in my opinion the best looking SUV in the market today.

Weakness:

Could be a touch bigger in the back.

I think I got the lowest price model with cloth seats that is actually very hard to get. It has been a great car to drive and no trouble to date.

Strength:

possible manufacturers defect with electricat wiring into the headlight assembly. Caused a fire which totaled the engine compartment. Major disappointment for an otherwise excellent vehicle.

Weakness:

I had one of the first models in '99; this may be a problem. The insurance cause and origin guy is convinced of an electrical defect. Lexus technical reps say a small piece of cloth near the cat converter is cause. Former ATF fire investigator saw this and says no way. They insurance co will subrogate claim. Either way I lose for depreciation and time. Lexus warrenty service is not to give the benefit of doubt; I think there is an arrogance that it is impossible that there is a problem with their product.

Major aggrevation and disapointment for an otherwise excellent product. Sorry, friends

Strength:

Smooth, quiet, comfortable, great stereo with in-dash CD changer, spacious, all-time 4WD, folding rear seat that's easy to remove, not too big, drives like a car, and great engine.

Weakness:

Looks a little strange, dashboard controls are a little confusing, not meant for off-road use, and uses premium gas.

The RX300 is meant for the consumer who just wants an SUV because it's trendy, looks better than a station wagon or minivan, and doesn't really plan to go off-roading or tow anything heavy. And since this describes most SUV buyers, this is the ideal SUV out there. It's based on the Lexus ES300 making it ride more like a car and less like a truck. It's the same size as a Jeep Grand Cherokee, meaning it's niether too big nor too small. It has a great stereo which has a surprising amount of bass. It's easy to load things in the back. The climate control system works good. The only thing is the controls are a little tricky at first. If you're looking for an SUV, but don't want one that's loud and cheap looking, get the RX300.

Strength:

Lexus quality. Very quitet, smooth ride, Very Comfortable seats. Good visibility, Good size (meaning compact but still quite useful and it isn't a elephant)

Weakness:

Flashy info panel is for techno geeks (like me), limited usefulness for true offroad (not that I ever do true offroad)

Bought it cause I wanted something with luxury (comfort and quiet), visibility (high up), saftety (handles well on rainy/snowy roads) This is an impossible combination that is actually met 100% with the Lexus. I don't ever intend to do real offroad stuff (why start now), so the fact that it is an SUV is nowhere near as important as it's comfort and reliabilty on road. The Lexus quality is everywhere. It is exactly what I hoped for (btw, I bought it over the internet to get the best price)

Strength:

ride comfort, power, Lexus service , gas milage , utility, build quality

Weakness:

center display is kinda funky, but other than that NONE

Purchased 8/98, 24,000 miles of nothing but super service. 19.8 to 20.5 mpg at 80mph cruise. What other car dealer gives you a new or one year old Lexus ES300 or RX300 to drive when yours is being serviced. This policy sold me an RX while my 98GS was being serviced. Nothing cheap looking about this SUV unlike MB. Wife drives it daily and loves it. Got 4wd , but have not had any snow or real off road to test it. I have driven dealers 2wd RXs in rain and am glad to have 4wd because power makes tires spin easily on wet roads.
