Strength:
Good in snow, can be towed behind an RV 4-down. 5000LB towing capacity with tow package
Weakness:
Transmission, Transfer case, bad mileage. Bought our liberty new in 2005 and had been a great car until about 65K miles when the transfer case failed, replaced under warranty. Now at 87K miles the transmission is totally shot and will cost $3500 to replace, fully half of what this car is worth. Having owned a 1998 Jeep Wrangler since new we are on the 2nd transmission on that vehicle and it is going out (total mileage 145K). No more Jeep products for us, the transmissions appear in our experience to be crap. Although it boasts a 5000Lb towing capacity it struggles to pull our 3700Lb bass boat which we do very sparingly with it. We will drive it another year as it will have a 12 month warranty on the new transmission but once that is done we are done with this Jeep. |

This car is the biggest lump of crap. We had to replace the back end after 50000 miles and the salesmen at the dealship were complete rooks. I will never buy another chrysler product as long as I live and I will encourage all of my friends to do the same. I should have known that I was being taken when we walked into the den of thieves where we bought the car. They tried to sell us on every unnecessary extra known to man and lied through there teeth to try and accomplish this. It is seriously the most poorly put together automobile that I have ever owned. Stay far away from any chrysler product. They are poorly constructed and depreciate faster tan any other car on the market |

Very reliable. Have owned the vehicle for over 4 years, bought with 40k miles and have never had any mechanical issues/ breakdowns.
Weakness:
Rear power window assemblies break easily, and Chrysler will not recall or reimburse.
Overall, pretty decent vehicle. very reliable, strong, big enough for a small family. A good buy despite a few flaws in manufacturing. Similar Products Used: Toyota Tacoma

Everything I guess I should have shopped around before I bought, but when I saw this Jeep on the lot, I feel in love with it. I have had my Jeep for almost 3 yrs. and have had nothing but problems. Not only was I lied to at the dealership about the gas mileage ( I was told 32 miles to the gal. more like 18)but I have replaced the altinator, the AC has gone out 2 times, both times it was the cluch in the air compressor. The passenger window on the left, motor went out, frt. door on the right handle came off, and the windshild wiper blades will not stay on. This Jeep has been nothing but a money pit and I will never own another one. I am a 44 yr. old woman, I work for a car manufactor and I know for a fact what quality is all about, this does not meet quality satisfaction and I will NEVER own another one. This is something you would expect from a 15 yr. old car that has not been taken car of, not a 5 yr. old car that gets "babied" |

Have replaced 9 window regulators in three years. I have been told this is a standard problem on all the Jeep Libertys. The front door leaked water from day one when it rained. Noisy and bumby ride. Has little or no storage room. The glove box is way to small. Virtually no back-up lights. There are blind spots in front and side mirror and at the back side windows. Why on earth are the window controls in the middle console? The clock is a pain to change. No heat flow to the floor area. In order to fold down the back seats you have to move both front seats forward as far as they will go and then after the back seats have been folded to a flat position you then can move the front seats back only so far which makes for a cramped driving/passenger sitting position. I was so very excited when I got the Jeep but based on the many problems I have had with the Jeep Liberty...(did I mention 9 window regulator replacements and a head replacement all within three years and less than 30,000 miles.I would never buy another one. |

There was nothing that I disliked about this car. I was just in a pretty bad accident with my 2 year old son- the car was totaled and we are perfectly fine. My son's window busted and he did not have a scratch on him. I am so amazed at how well it protected us that I am not considering any other car as a replacement.

Drives well off road.
Weakness:
Have had to replace the both back passenger windows 3 times and we don't ever use the windows; they just slide down into the door. The latest was yesterday when we came out of a store and the window was down. And we had been careful not to ever ower that window after the last time it was repaired. It just happens and Jeep does not give us a break for repeated replacements of the same problem. At over $300 per window it is very expensive to own our Jeep! We have even tried duct tape, but the glass slides down into the door. And of course not getting it repaired is not an option as security and theft prevention is gone with an open window. The most frustrating part is Jeep charges a high price for the repair that is poor design. When on a trip, our window broke and the Jeep dealer service department personnel knew the part number by heart becuase it was such a frequent repair. Seats are uncomfortable, repair prone window design adds at least $2000 to the cost of owning a Jeep. So think twice as to how much you will enjoy your dirt road adventures. |

Strength:
17-21MPG,comfortable, ease of handling/stopping, strong off road in 2WD,comfortable on long trips. This is a 6 speed stick, cruises mountains easily and highways as well as off road
Weakness:
headlights appear weak..added light bar, will change factory tires for more off road traction. "blind" spots in rear view mirrors.Added small concave mirrors to original mirrors In review, I got what I was looking for at a price I felt acceptable. It's roadworthy on or off road for what I need...economy is about what I might expect for this vehicle. It's my 4th Jeep, so I like them for what they are, and what they give me. Security on the highway and off, strength and dependability with a minimum of fuss, and still look good doing all of it. Fit and finish is good, I don't mind plastic instead of leather trim. When I bought this one I walked into the dealership with the intention of buying a "basic" Jeep that would last as long as my other 3, all passing the 200,000 mile mark. I expect some worn out parts over the years, but this vehicle appears as well made and up to par as the others. Is it pretty? Not exactly! But I am comfortable with the ownership. It is what it is, a utility vehicle that accomplishes what it needs to do. And I think that is part of the Jeep 'mystique'. The owners match themselves to the vehicle carefully or find they are sadly mismatched. My Liberty is neither a racy Jaguar or a Ford 350 diesel truck. It would look out of place at the opera house; but so do I. LOL! But at the beach, or the boatyard or the campground or the worksite it's convenient, sturdy and happy to be there. Nice ride. Nice fit and finish. Lots of headroom. Easy access to trunk. Lots of rear legroom. Comfortable seats. Just enough power.
Weakness:
Bad blindspot to right through rearview mirror. No telescope on steering. Painted fender flares easily knicked/scratched. Limited accessories. City mpg so-so. Traded in a 1993 Cherokee for Liberty. Amazing difference; all good. What a pleasure to drive and ride in. Chose greystone color; it doesn't show dust!

Liberty North Edition
Strength:
gas mileage, comfort, solid, wet road holding ability at high speed-mountain corners
Weakness:
have not encountered any yet. Gas mileage 9.0 to 9.7 kn/litre hwy and mixed. Much better than my 2008 escape AWD. Jeep holds the road very well-wet conditions-mountain hwy. Runs very smooth and feels very solid. I normally drive 80,000 km/year and this is the first vehicle I get out of after a long drive and my legs don't stiffen up. Lots of get up for passing and I'm looking forward to pulling a trailer. So far-no complaints. Similar Products Used: 2006 Ford escape 4WD, 2008 Ford Escape AWD, 2004 Dodge Durango 4WD. |
