Strength:
Size: big enough to perform truck duties, but small enough to be very maneuverable in tight spaces.
Weakness:
Build quality: the suspension and body exhibit some minor squeaks and rattles, and the brakes could use some improvement. Also, the rear doors are rather small to enter & exit the rear seat. I have used my Cherokee for commuting, towing, offroading, fishing, and winter weather rescue. It is the most reliable vehicle I have ever come across, and its durability is bar none top notch. I enjoy driving it, modifying it, and admiring its classic beauty. It is a no-nonsense, simple, durable design that has yet to be topped in its perfect combination of utility, sportiness, and aesthetic appeal. Similar Products Used: Jeep Grand Cherokee- the Cherokee is more maneuverable and fuel efficient, although the Grand Cherokee has more room inside in all the right places. |

Jeep Cherokee Laredo
Strength:
This car has never left me stranded. I've driven it for the last 6 years and it only wouldn't start once (bad battery). Low, low maintenance costs. Handles like a dream. 126,000 miles on it and it still runs like it did when I bought it May 10, 1995.
Weakness:
Bad paint from '90. Part of that could be that I don't have a garage. Headliner starting to fall. I haven't had to put much money into repairs at all over 85,000 miles. I've replaced the alternator, muffler (twice), and coolant bottle. Those are all that I can remember. Gas mileage isn't the best, but the extra room is worth the cost. You can fit a full set of wheels (with tires) in the cargo area. Great ride and worth the money, especially given their lifespan. Similar Products Used: My wife has a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I don't believe the Grand Cherokee handles half as well. |

Strength:
Solid front and rear axles, strong transmission, engine, transfer case. Decent mileage for an SUV, I get about 16 city and 19 highway. Lots of aftermarket parts available to modify it with.
Weakness:
Headroom. Driveline vibration. Small rear door entry, but this is really OK since only my 3 year old rides back there. Oh, and the '99's seem to have a problem with their electric windows. We bought the Cherokee for its off-road capability, small size and ease of around town use (parking, visibility, etc.). It has not let us down. It has been on several off-road trips and has done great every time. Similar Products Used: I've had several SUV's, mostly fullsize. The fullsizes definately have more room, but at the expense of parking ease, gas mileage and off-road capability. The Cherokee spanks them all in these areas. |

Great vehicle, its already almost 12 years old and drives better than most cars Ive driven made in the last year! Lots of room for stuff, or people. Great power, good ride, confortable seating, and enough room for my 6'2" 300 lb frame! And you cant beat the offroad ability of this Jeep either! It will follow most anything anywhere!
Weakness:
Paint is showing wear in the clear coat after 12 years of use. Awesome vehicle! Im looking for another one! Similar Products Used: Its the next best thing to a Jeep Wrangler off road, with more room to carry stuff! |

THE ENTIRE TRUCK!!!!!!!!!
Weakness:
The paint is really bad but I heared that ailing AMC only put one or two coats of paint on them that year. My 1987 Jeep was given to me by my Great Uncle. He ordered it new and had it for 13 years and it hadn't fan for 6 months. No fault of either my Great Uncle or the Cherokee, someone had stolen the coil and spare tire. So my Great uncle bought a Chevy Blazer and his Jeep was in his yard collecting dust and rust. So he gave it to me to fix up and drive it when I'm 16. I have had it since November of 2000. In that time I have bought a new battery, a new coil and some other things. When ordered it was top of the line, all options except A/C. It has a lether interior and mag wheels, Command-Trac 4WD and the 4.0 six cylinder. The engine is unstopable, I have had it running in -40 degrees farinhight conditions. Its smooth as silk, you can barly hear it. I once forgot about it and left it running for 5 hours. The Body is severly rusted though, it needs two new front fenders and the floor pan on the driver's side is almost rusted through and the mag wheels are badly eroded but the engine is still running strong. I have done a little engine work on it like replacing the Air Filter and the Distributer Cap and Rotor. It still has to be registered but whe need to finish the Body work first. I only wish I had this car when it was new. Similar Products Used: The Jeep Cherokee IS THE SUV, its the first and best SUV for the simple reason that it was designed to be a true SUV. The Jeep Cherokee was designed to be used off road, most other SUVs were designed to look good on the road, I don't think they are true SUVs. The Cherokee is now thretened by these yuppie mobiles and it makes me mad. If you could sum up the purpose the Cherokee was designed for it would be "Tough", all other SUVs it would be "Brag","One-up" or "Look good". The Chrokee may not be as good on the road but its not trying to be or saying it is. In closing I must say that the Cherokee is a superior design because it has one thing that other SUVs don't, Purity. You look at a Jeep ad or comercial, the Jeep company dosn't pretend that it rides good on the road or that it's interior is as good as an Explorer. It just says the Jeep is good off road, which it is. The Jeep has stayed true to its purpose for 17 years. Its purpose to be a true offroading machine, not a luxury ornament. There is one complaint that I have never heared about the Jeep, "The Transfer case is frozen because I never put it in for wheel drive." and undoteably this is a major complaint about other ornamental SUVs like the Linclon Navigator or Cadillac Escalade. |

Off-Road ability
Weakness:
no large tire option This is a real 4x4 folks. No flash girl getter and not a SUV with a car chasis. Most folks will tell you that this rig rides like a truck. Well it does, because it is a truck. When you take the Cherokee off-road you'll be glad that it is a truck as well. If you want to simply look flashy then this vehicle might not be for you. Those that go off-roading buy Jeeps, those that don't buy everything else. Similar Products Used: does not compare to anything else |

Cherokee Sport Select-Trac
Strength:
see above. Offers great protection in an accident when hit hard in the right front corner - no injuries just car damage. Great for reliable transportation and truck use.
Weakness:
sometimes you want a smoother ride but it is a truck and it rides like one. This has been the best vehicle I Have ever owned. Goes through deep snow, always starts up, great engine power, and select-trac is the best cause you can keep it in 4x4 full time on dry ground. Great ground clearance. Maintenace costs are reasonable and limited to usual items, nothing very expensive or unusual. Enough room to carry a go-cart in the back with the seat down. Great visibility all around the vehicle. Similar Products Used: Jimmy and Bronco do not compare to its power, clearance, and relatively trouble-free performance. |

- It's a Jeep.
Weakness:
- The speakers have never been right, cutting in and out. This vehicle has been extremely reliable and has caused me no worries in 72,000 miles. The Jeep and I have traveled all over the US together and we are quite close (it's a Jeep thing). I am disappointed that I will not be able to buy another one new. Stupid Chrysler! I bought it because it was a tried and true model and now they are blowing it by discontinuing it! Hey Chrysler, are you paying attention? Similar Products Used: I can draw no comparisons except the Toyota forerunner I rented one time, but that was an automatic so it's not a fair comparison. Incidentally though, the 4Runner was JUST NOT RIGHT. |

Weakness:
gas mileage, cock pit ergonomics, not alot of leg room in any seat (PROS) plenty of power, superior off-road capabilitys, All cherokees( not grand cherokees) have toyota transmissions which is a very good thing, the motor gets very high marks every where i look, and i myself have had no problems with it either, im at 90,000 miles and it drives like its brand new, all normal maintenance parts are very easy to access ( gas filter, air filter, oil filter, starter, spark plugs, plug wires, distributor ... ) Similar Products Used: explorer, better ergonomics, but overall doesnt compare to price and quality |
