Isuzu Rodeo LS
Strength:
Nice ride quality, good reliability, comfort, head and leg room, cargo space, paint quality.
Weakness:
a little under powered, unusual layout of the engine compartment, a little3 slow pick up. A nice car, it has 150000 KMs and has had little done to it. The radiator has been rebuilt and tht is about it. It has no power options or AC so that makes it more reliable I feel. It had minimal rust only around the two rear wheel wells. The engine runs well and it has fairly good ride quality, we have had no problems with it other than I think that the transmission was rebuilt once. I am really familiar with GM engines but this one was laid out slightly differnt. It has a nice big cargo spce which makes the deal even sweater. Strength:
good looks, dependable, massive gas tank, fair/average gas mileage, durable, excellent owners manual, great tires, comfortable ride, tight suspension and steering
Weakness:
does not ride like a car, mechanical failure of door lock and power window I had the opportunity to acquire this truck from a man who was moving back to Europe. I got the vehicle very very cheap and as of right now I am elated with it's functionality, reliability and rugged good looks. The truck has 135,000 miles on it and the only known problems to me are the check engine light is on, the cable which operates the power (drivers side) window is broken and the back (drivers side) door lock does not lock the door.

Handles terribly
This is by far the WORST car I have ever driven. After having the car for about 3 months, I completely regretted it buying it! The car has absolutely no pick-up, handles horribly, and is so uncomfortable. You feel every single bump, its definitely a truck-y ride! Seems like there is something wrong with the transmission. I've brought it in several times to be checked out and one time they did something with the spark plugs - ran ok for about a week and then started all over again. They never found anything else after that - but I'm telling you, if they drove the car for a day, they'd see there is something wrong with it. |

VERY EXPENSIVE PARTS
This truck was good when I first bought it, althoug way over priced. I will start by listing the problems, first the transmission went before 100,000 miles (actually 90K!!!)($3,500) The master window switch went ($250) The AC controller went ($500), the throttel body went ($600), + the dealership charged me $300 in diognossed fees!!!The wiper blade bracket went ($300) on top of all this, everything that needs replacing MUST be bought at the dealer, for 10x the price of normal parts. TBI 3.1 V6 models are hard to come by
I got this car as my first car. I thought it would be a good buy cause my dad owned an Isuzu Trooper. When I bought it, it ran poorly. I tuned it with some really good spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and put 10W Syntec Castrol in the car. After that the thing ran beautifully. I know that all the other models of this car suck...I've driven most of the years, and all the Fuel Injected versions blow, as well as the 4 cylanders. I have the TBI V6 3.1, and I love it. I see rodeos for sell all over the place, but they are 91, or 94-98 usually(and fuel injected). My car hat 167k on it and I know it is one of the best running Rodeos out there for it's year and mileage. I'm currently trying to sell it because I want a car, but I'm not selling it because the car is bad. It's a REALLY good SUV, and perfect for the snow. So if you are looking for a Rodeo, find the TBI V6, don't bother with any of the other years, or engines.

Strength:
Lots of pick up and go, looks good, sitslower and wider than the older Isuzus so is more stabile in turns, Just can't kill them.
Weakness:
Cost of parts and repairs when neccessary. We loved our 88 Trooper II and 94 Trooper so much that we bought TWO 98 Rodeos last May. Both had well over 100000 miles on them and the typical "Isuzu Knock" sound. My mechanic who has specialized in Isuzus for 2 decades says that is normal for high milage Isuzus and not to worry as long as we have it service regularily. Mine has been great. I get over 20 mpg in town. Can seat 3 car seats in back and a single and a double stroller in rear with a little extra room. The one my daughter took has a sunroof and other luxuries. She has had several problems with it but since she is a new driver (@22) I attribute it to the possibility that she also abuses it. In all we LOVE Isuzu and are happy with the Rodeos. Next time we buy it will be another Isuzu. Similar Products Used: 88 Trooper II

Strong engine (use it to haul sometimes, never slows down)
Weakness:
Not good on gas (15-19 mpg)
When I bought this vehicle it already had 110,000 miles on it. But, since I bought it from a friend, I knew it had been taken care of. Plus, it was fully loaded, so I really couldn't pass up all that I was getting for the price. I have had this vehicle for 3 years now, and it is by far my favorite vehicle that I have ever owned! I've had it in the shop one time to fix a broken wire in the steering column, but that is the only time it has given me any trouble. I currently drive it almost 70 miles a day to work and it never gives me any problems. Yes, it is heavy on gas, but since it is paid off, gas is the only thing I'm paying for. I have seen alot of negative comments on this board about the Rodeo, but I haven't had any problems with mine. It still runs great, still looks great, and all the power options work just like new! The truck currently has 162,000 miles on it, and starts and runs like a new one. If this truck ever breaks down completely, I will definitely look into buying a new Isuzu Ascender(the Rodeo's replacement). Similar Products Used: 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor

Weakness:
gas consumption deprecitation I just recently sold my rodeo after having it from 1999. I had "0" problems. It was an amzing off raod vehicle, went through snow like no tommorow and just never died. it was a little heavy on gas, but it was a true truck on frame vehicle would not ecpect anything less. The value did depreciate alot. But if Isuzu where still in Canada I would consider another. Absolulty loved it. |

Rodeo LS 4WD
Strength:
Seems like a good bargain. Looks good. 2000+ models age excellent (outside). My freinds love it (could be the $1500 I invested in the system, but hey whatever). FUN off-road!! Japanese sounding name.
Weakness:
Unreliable. The brakes feel like they're from the 80s. Cheap plastic dash. Expensive parts. Expensive Insurance (about the price of a 325i) WAY TOO LOUD on the freeway. Poor crash test results (iihs.org). Not really Japanese (made in Indiana). Well, I've had it since last May, and by all means please reguard my last review. Since I have had it pretty much EVERYTHING has fallen apart. A couple months ago I was driving at night and the steering wheel was way off alignment. I got home safely though. The next morning I took my car back out and as I turned off of my street the steering wheel gave completely out, thankfully I was only going 20 and my neighbors didn't mind me paing their driveway a visit for a few hours. The brakes are also underpowered for the car. If it is cold out they do not grab at all. This is seriously the scariest thing on earth. You can have your foot t on the carpet (pedal inbetween) and no response. Also, half of the time the ABS doesn't work. Oddly enough when it's hott outside the ABS turns on if you barely touch the pedal. Now my air bag light is on and the horn doesn't work. Last weekend the radiator blew, but from the bottom revealing a faulty thermostat, and when it blew, the bottom litterally melted (it's plastic). It also had an issue starting, but that was just a fuel pressure regulator needed. If you have an FM transmitter, don't expect it to work too well, I've tried mine in many other cars (including an 88 silverado, 04 bravada, 02 and 01 montero) and it got better reception. It also sucks oil and I am averaging 15 mpg (when I don't go crazy). Oh, and the CD changer went out last summer. I know this sounds negative, but please don't think you're getting a good deal. My parents have put in over a grand so far into this mistake, because my dad can fix cars himself, or else it would have been like two grand labor alone (no joke).
