Strength:
Very roomy, handles well. Like the arm rests for both driver and passenger.
Weakness:
Road noise (must be those tires everyone complains about) I also researched the small SUV's for a few months. When i test drove the CRV i was hooked. Have had this car now for almost a month, and i have no regrets about purchasing it. I love it!! Honda did a great job with the CRV, the 2004 is great. I was impressed with all the room it has. Also, I had my first experience recently with it in the snow, was a little cautious about it, but no need to worry, it did not let me down, the CRV drove great in the snow. I was very pleased with they way it handled. Living somewhat on a high hill the CRV had no problem making it up in the snow. My other vehicle (Chevy) would of copped out. No real complaints at this time. Never thought i would get a SUV myself but....hats off to Honda for this magnificent vehicle and changing my mind! I think they should offer the Accord V-6 as an option. The 4 banger is okay, but it could use a little more pick up. I also wish that they would get rid of the column shifter and put it in the center. Also, no intermittent setting for the back wiper? I have been looking for months to get rid of my Jeep Wrangler and get something that is still small, but more reliable. I found it in the CR-V! When I was looking at the car in the dealership, I was amazed at the interior room. During the test drive, I was sold. The visibility is amazing, and the drive is smooth. My husband is a Jeep Cherokee fan, and was trying to talk me out of buying the Honda and getting another Cherokee. I reminded him of our 1989 Accord with 211,000 miles; the only thing that we have done to it is put on new brakes, tires, and a muffler. You get alot of bang for your buck with a Honda! Ride, visibility, fuel economy plus adequate power. Fit and finish.
Weakness:
The factory Fog Lights (an option) are absolute garbage and not anywhere worth the money! They project an apparent 3 feet in front of the car and are virtually worthless. I am now considering purchasing some Cibie's at half the price and 500% better. The Bridgestone tires are very noisy on uneven or not absolutely smooth pavement. I recently drove an empty full size Ford Cargo Van (no finished interior walls or any carpeting) that was quiter on the hiway. I have found this to be an economical and comfortable vehicle. This summer I had a high of 30mpg on the hiway at 70mph. I usually average 27mpg on the highway and 24 in town. I usually set the cruise control at 70, but ocassionaly have driven at 80mph with a feeling of great solidity. The 4 cylinder is strong enough for me and the wife. Interior is comfortable enough, but I wish it had inseat heaters or divided controls as the wife prefers things warm and I cool. |

Honda Cr-v
Strength:
Very roomy Power is excellent for a four cyl. Fit and finish is supurb Legendary Honda reliability
Weakness:
Oem Tires could be alot better Oil filter could be easier to get to. I really can't say enough about the Cr-v. It is a highly refined, civilized vehicle. While its not like driving a 1970 hemi dart, there isn't a hill around that I can't accelerate up. And there are some pretty steep hills where I live. The best way I can describe the motor is,,, it just loves to rev. It wants to rev. It needs to rev. Now don't get me wrong,,, I don't drive my cr-v hard. I drive it very easy as a matter of fact. And thats another good point also,,, driven hard or easy, it responds very well. Shifting is silky smooth and it doesn't "hunt" if you know what I mean. I guess you could say its just as much a pleasure to drive easy as it is when you put your right foot into it a little bit. Enough about the motor. I must speak on the interior. The best I can say for the interior is it's nice. Very functional. I certainly wouldn't call it "posh", but I wouldn't call it bland either. Overall, its my opinion that Honda did pretty good with it. I have the EX and the apolstry is very nice. The seats are very supportive and comfortable, especially on a long trip. I'm a fairly big guy, 6 ft 1 and around 260 lbs and I fit rather nicely in it. Its very roomy. I can get in the drivers seat and set the seat where I'm very comfortable and then get in the seat behind the drivers seat and have all the leg room in the world. The rear seats move for and aft and believe you me,,, thats going to benifit my two boys as they grow. Also, I have the sun roof and head room is no problem at all. As far as the fit and finish on this vehicle goes,,, well,,, theres no adulation I could give it that hasn't already been bestowed upon it. In other words,, its superb. I also have installed a genuine Honda trailer hitch on my CR-V. It will haul the rated 1500 lbs effortlessly. In closing,,,,,,, If you are looking for a new small suv that has the most room, the fun to drive factor, and that looks pretty darn good,,,, look no further. The Honda CR-V is your vehicle. It will haul around your family of five with relatively good comfort and in relatively good style. Its no BMW,,, but then again your not paying 40 to 50 g's for it either. Iv'e driven the Escape, the Rav 4, the Vue, and the Santa Fe. The only small suv that comes close to the CR-V is the Rav 4. If your a 5 ft 2 woman, that vehicle is probably gonna suit you fine. But if your looking for a little more than the average roomy-ness, then the Honda CR-V is the vehicle for you. Similar Products Used: Rav 4 Vue Escape Santa Fe |

Strength:
Ride, handling, fit and finish, roominess, convenience
Weakness:
Road noise pronounced at times... I did a lot of research before purchasing this vehicle for my wife. For this reason, I was not suprised to find that, among the pros are roominess, and drivability and that road noise at times becomes intrusive. All in all a very practical vehicle for our purposes. A number of "professional" reviews made a big deal out of the fact that the rear door opens to the right instead of the left and unloading while parked on a right side curb left was akward. Let's face it, in most other countries where the Honda is sold people drive on the left hand side of the road. How much extra would it add to the cost of manufacturing this vehicle to change the swing of the door? Besides, how many people load groceries or anything else in the back of their vehicle from a right side curb- most of this is done in parking lots- unless you live in Mayberry... In fact, we have a two-story colonial home with an attached garage on the right hand side of the house. When my wife parks the car in the garage, she enters the mudroom with groceries from the drivers side. In our case, a door with a swing to the right would be very inconvenient! I do agree that the direction of the tailgate swing is something for all car shoppers to consider when making their selection. Perhaps the car manufacturers can devise a reversable tailgate as refrigerator manufacturers have done. Finally, the only other observation that rear visablity is hampered by the rear seat head rests- which are removable. Similar Products Used: none |

The engine is very quiet and seems quite strong. Transmission is very good. The CR-V has a great turning radius. Very roomy and comfortable. Handles very well.
Weakness:
Tire noise on the highway. I assume from the Bridgstone tires. Not a very good tire and will be looking for a replacement soon. My wife asked me to look for her a replacement work vehicle for her high mile '97 Nissan 4wd truck. She said she liked the CR-V. I, however, was a bit skeptical. Although we do own a flawless '98 Accord EX coupe I did not think I would like the CR-V. After a test drive my skepticism vanished. This CR-V is a great vehicle! Similar Products Used: n/a |

The A/C is excellent, freezes you out in the 110+ degree Arizona summers.
Weakness:
none I have researched this vehicle for over 2 years. My final decision to purchase one was easy, their are many competitors in its class, but few do everything as well as the Honda. I would like to address many of the weaknesses or "cons" I have read about. Before you purchase a vehicle you have to realistic about how the vehicle will be used. Engine power- 160 hp is more than enough for the size of this vehicle. In the first 3000 miles, I have yet to think to myself, "I need more power", during my road trips I have taken, it has more than enough power, put it on cruise control and let the motor due the work, The V-TEC engine is just as happy turning 4500 rpm as it is 2000 rpm. If you live in the Rocky Mountains, this vehicle (or any 4 piston engine) might not be sufficient, but even in the mountains, not every road is uphill (you have to come down sometime). towing- IF you want to tow your 21ft searay, buy a truck. Use the right tool for the job. Offroad- If you want to due serious offroading (which few off us seldom do), buy a Jeep, they are made for that specifically. Road noise- It is an $18000 vehicle, if you want it as quiet as your Lexus.....buy another Lexus. This is an excellent grocery getter, If anyone thinks that it is anything more, they are sadly mistaken, they should of done their homework, and quite possibly insane. Similar Products Used: none |

Better acceleration than I expected, and handles like a dream. Fuel economy was precisely as advertised. In the Montana market, these little buggers hold their value better than most other SUV's (or should I say compact utilities - CUTE's). That's why I ended up buying a new one, because the newer ones were selling for close to the brand-new prices. Just for fun, compare it to a Dodge 1500 Crew Cab, sometime, for interior room. The Dodge is a monster...on the outside. The lil' bitty CR-V's darned near as big, when you compare passenger space. Who'd a' thunk it? The CR-V is easy to get in and out of, too, which can be important for elderly passengers and kids. As an all-around vehicle, the CR-V is a winner.
Weakness:
Middle rear headrest had to go (luckily there's a convenient place for it, under the table), but that's what you get with stadium seating, and it's a good tradeoff, for the rear seat passengers, who get a pretty decent view. The transmission shiftlever takes a bit of getting used to, not so much for placement, which isn't much different from a steering column placement, but just because of the feel of the shifting. I'll get used to it, in time. Brakes don't feel quite as quick as a couple of other vehicles I've driven lately, but they're also not as grabby. The CR-V is new, and I'm loving it, so far. It's a solid little ride that's bigger than it looks. It delivers exactly what it promises. Similar Products Used: Toyota Rav4 (used to drive the family Civic and Accord, as well) |

See the summary Gas mileage has been nowhere near that advertised, we have only ever managed 20 mpg on highway. This really stinks when gas prices are so high. Check engine light fiasco is causing us a lot of grief. The people at the dealership claim the manual says 3 driving cycles will reset it (the manual actually says 1!). The stupid thing keeps comming on - now I suspect it is because of the fact the the gas cap is comming lose!! We plan to sell this car ASAP and add it to the Subaru Outback as another lemon... and a good reason to never buy from the manufacturer. |

Quality of build and the fit, typically great Honda. We have a very rugged road to our house, have developed no rattles. Reliability-I have had only routine maintenance for over 70,000 miles. I have the oil changed every 3-4,000 miles and have it washed about every 10 days. I'm pretty hard on it and it still looks really good. Fuel Economy - consistently 25mpg. I record every fuel fill-up and I do the math. Cargo space-I have horses and haul so much stuff around, you can hardly believe there is that much room. Interior roominess-much bigger on the inside that you'd think from looking at the outside. Comfort for driver-seating position is great when you get used to it. My back hurt all the time with my former Subaru SW. Visibility-Wonderful visibility on the 2001 style. My mom has the 2002 and it's not as good.
Weakness:
The same complaints as you'll hear consistently for this model year... -Road noise -Weak sound system-I bought the best offered and it was not that good. -Fuel cap-no place to hang it while fueling -No arm rest for front passenger -Crazy placing of the window controls. I've had the car 2 1/2 years and I still get confused sometimes, no lock control on passenger side which confuses the passenger. My mom bought the 2002 CRV and all of the above problems were corrected. She loves her car too. I've had my 2001 CR-V SE for 2 1/2 years and I've spent almost 71,000 miles behind the wheel already...70 mile round trip commuting. I researched many vehicles off and on for about 2 years before deciding on the CRV. When you consider the choices out there, the CRV really stands out for the $$. The quality and versatility is great. |
