Strength:

Good handeling, Reliable, Good for off road uses, PLunty of storage and seating.

Weakness:

Loud Power steering pump, And Transmision slip

My Explore has mad it trough some tough obsticals when i took it on a trip up in the mountains on an off road trip. I was the only ford their, everyone elts being jeeps. With my 3 inch body life and 31" a/t tires i made it up hills that other jeep wranglers and rubicons couldnt. The 5 hour Trip back was surly more comforitable in the Explore than a jeep also.

Lousy tires with car, will replace soon.

Like the looks, solid feel, like the 17 inch wheels. Came equiped with Moonroof, 290 watt stereo with 6 CD changer, leather and Tire Pressure Monitor. Great Dealership in Palm Beach County Fl.

Strength:

Quick turning radius, height gives a view over most traffic ahead, great acceleration, looks great. 5 speed auto is really smooth, really hard to tell when it shifts. Headlights are super bright and light up the road.

Weakness:

None

Love this vehicle. Chose the shorter 2 door model because of limited length of our garage. It is 4 wheel drive with the limited slip diff. The thing turns in a surprisingly short radius, and handles more like sporty car[our other vehicle is a Mustang GT]. The ride was a little choppy at first, with the shorter wheelbase and solid rear axle when brand new, however now after 2000 miles, it is just right. Lots of cargo room, rear seats flip down easily. I like the rear hatch window which opens independently of the hatch door, so can easily put in small parcels etc. without needing to open the hatch door. Purchased it at end of year sale, with $4000 rebate, then Costco price, sticker price was $29,000

Strength:

Very Generous Cargo area with rear seat folded down.Room for 2 Labrador Retrievers & all my hunting/fishing gear when Dog Barrier (metal) is installed. Middle console leather Cusion has broken twice at plastic support piece. Has nice STEEL BUMPERS.

Weakness:

Recalls-Tires- Bushings-Bearings. No Airbag for driver or passenger. Seat belts only. Other than that none observed.

Have gotten 263,000 miles out of this Vehicle by Changing the oil religiously every 3,000 miles. Only had 1 Tranny repair @ 160k and other than wearing out 2 sets of Firestones BEFORE the Recall & replacing 2 tie rods & the 2 Bushings BEFORE they announced the RECALL on them . Most of the time we have had 'positve experiences' with this eleven year old vehicle we bought new. Vehicle came with dealer installed ABS Sunroof with liner & (Safety Hidden kill switch for engine.)We added tube style running boards and Bug visor on front hood + locking gas cap !!. Vehicle has been very reliable when driven at 'normal" highway speeds. Very little chance of rollover "if" one obeys the speed limits. [We thought we had such a decent experience when it came time to get a new truck we selected a 1999 Eddie Bauer 4Dr<--------NOT a Good Experience thus far...SERIOUS QUALITY ISSUES.]

Everything is great. very roomy, runs well. No problems what so ever!

Weakness:

Stiff suspension

Has 120,000 miles and had pulled over 3500lbs for the past 4 years pulling my ski boat. What can I say? A Monster and a very nice SUV. Never gave me any problems and been very good to our family. Good on gas mileage,, about 17per gallon on the 4.0L (v6). Very comefortable... suv still looks new. Kinda hard to believe its an 1996 model. It just fits in so much with the modern vehicle out there today.
