Strength:

Made for women.

Weakness:

You name it....rear suspension, oil leaks, transmission.

This Ford Exploder is real money pit.

I have had many problems with this SUV and the Ford Dealers just tell me they should have done some more recalls.

The rear suspension bucks like a real "Bronco" and is very annoying. I've tried aftermarket shocks with no success.

Oil leaks that the dealer can't Fix.

I continue to baby this thing and things continue to break.

Strength:

Solid build. Enging Power. driveline. Feels safe.
Outstanding on mud, ice or snow.
I would buy another one. In fact, I covet the new 2002 Eddie Bauer

Weakness:

Expensive purchase price.....FORD MAKES A KILLING ON THESE THINGS!!!!!!
I don't like the 4 wheel drive selector at all. I don't need Auto 4WD. I need 2WD-4WD-and 4WD LOW. None of this "Auto" stuff.....Listening Ford????

I would classify this vehicle as Excellent overall. It is firm, but tight. Rides Well and is smooth on good roads. You definately feel the cracks and the washboards on gravel, but there is never a feeling of loss of control.
The really nice thing about the Eddie Bauer package is-that it is real, not just a dress up. It comes with the bigger wheels and tires, heaver suspension, Limited slip rear axel......ect. Most of the "designer" packages are just appearance. This one also has function.
Engine is 6 cyl OHC with 5 speed auto tranny. I have 4:10 gears with limited slip rear. The 4:10 gears actually help with the fuel consumption up to about 65 mph because the enging doesn't have to work at all to get the vehicle moving and keep it there. Above 65mph the mileage drops off.
normal driving to work ect I have been averaging 21.5 for over a year. On trips of over 100 miles, I get almost 25 mpg. I have several friends who own other suv's (including Explorers) with higher gears, different engines, who have trouble getting 18-20. I would not recommend this as a daily driver though. If you don't need a SUV of truck, you probably don't need this. I think the main reason that there are all the roll over problems ect with SUV's is that people buy them and try to use them as a grocery getter, soccer team transport or street cruiser. It don't drive or steer like your father's Oldsmobile!!!!!!

Strength:

Well-built, handles well(with Monroe shocks), flexible and functional

Weakness:

Mileage, Firestone tires

Bought the vehicle off a lease 2 1/2 years ago with 32,000 miles. 53,000 miles now with no problems. Replaced the horrible stock shocks and the handling and ride are much better. Very useful for hauling our child, stroller and most everything else. In '95, only the OHV v6 was available. It will get you where you want to go, but don't bother getting there in a hurry.

comfortable

Weakness:

Rough ride
Gas mileage (lack of)

I have 104,000 miles on it and have done the following; valve cover gaskets, radiator, radiator cooling fan, radius arm bushings (twice), alternator, brake master cylinder, u joints, AC hoses and the usual stuff. I have treated it like a truck loading it with fire wood, going off road and pulling trailers and it has done all of these very well. As far as the reliability the big stuff, motor and tranny, show no signs of going but the little stuff gets a little old (typical american craftsmanship). If I were to buy one I would make it a V-8 or at least newer than a 95. They worked out the bugs.

Strength:

The leather seat are great along with the stereo system. the sun roof is a plus. The 6 cylinder has the power to pull a 19 foot boat with out any problem.

Weakness:

sometimes the fuel gauge works and sometimes it does not. at speeds of 65 to 70 their is a vibration in the front end. going in and out of 4 wheel drive it has a problem at times releasing than you get a lound clunking noise after you start moveing again.

Ford sould put in a more flexiable release after going out of 4 wheel drive. they need to solved the problem of the vibration at speeds of 70 mph or more.

Love the room. This is my SUV. I have always owned a car. I like the security I feel when driving it compared to getting into a wreck in a car.

Weakness:

Could get better get mileage. Air seems to leak in around the front windows.

I would highly recommend one. But would also recommend for Ford to give the option of a third seat like the Dodge Durango.

I have drove a Nissan Pathfinder, Rodeo, Blazer, and a Grand Jeep Cherokee, the Jerokee is the only one that compares to it.

Model Reviewed: Explorer Sport 4.0L OHV

Strength:

Looks really good, handles well, provides confidence driving in any conditions.

Weakness:

Could use a little more power, although the OHV engine is supposed to be one of the most reliable out there.

I have been driving this truck for 3 months now and have put over 6,000 miles on it. So far it has held up beautifully under every condition. I have taken it off road, on trails my friends thought for sure I would get stuck on. Not a problem. Cruised through with relaitve ease. They were quite impressed. Not many had seen and Explorer off road. I have also gone on several long trips and have found the Explorer to be very comfortable. It is a solid vehicle and I reccomend it without hesitation.

Interior has held up well for being a 1995. Looks nice, good sound system roomy.

Weakness:

Sometimes when it changes gears around 52 mph, it jerks really hard and it I don't think that is normal. I don't know what is actually wrong but it is VERY ANNOYING!

It's nice looking and it has neat extras.

Model Reviewed: Explorer XLT 4.0 SOHC

Strength:

With the 4.0 V6 SOHC the Explorer will kept up with 2000 V6 Mustang.

Weakness:

The overall weakness has to be GAS...at only 16 miles to the gallon i'm filling up every 4-5 days. But what can you expect, it is a SUV not a car...

Ford has one of the better looking SUV's out on the road today. Not even the Foreign SUV's can compete with the Explorer's body design. The Ride is a little bumpy, but the rugged feel to the ride is a plus when your off roading. The Exploer has had problem's with the car's factory alarm and factory radio. When it come's to power the Explorer's 4.0 SOHC is a plus with 205 hp.
