Strength:

motor ,interior front and rear seats ,handeling, style ,fit and finish ,view from inside out when driving , guages are easy to read !easy to modify and cheap!traction control

Weakness:

no boost guage or oil temp guage, rear seat is a not real usefull for adults

car might not be to usfull in the snow but not sure

I Was looking for an upgrade to my stealth r/t turbo had porsches ,stangs and vets and was going to get a bmw 540 but happen to come across an old mag i had showing the supra tt!
decided to look further into the car and after reading what most people said about this car and what other mags had to say i knew i had to get it! as most people who own it (99.9%) loved it ! I started searching around my area and could not find one .finally i knew i had to go out of state to get it as the car is very hard to come by as most owners dont or refuse to sell it!
well after a long search 2 months to be exact i got this car i knew i made the right choice the motor is bullet proof ,interior is very comfortable for both driver and passenger ,sound system is really good (total of 7 speakers in the car)
paint job on car is great and this car is very very easy to mod for more power for under $1,500 bucks the car handles like its on rails !the car is a real head turner since there so rare to see on the street not to add toyota reliability!this car is excellent for experienced drivers but it might be too much for a new car driver!
well if your looking for a bullet proof car this is it!

Strength:

The car is fast(a little to fast) with the right mods u can make the car the fastest out of your group. The leather interior is great and so is the stock CD player. I can burn just about any american car and most Imports except the 3000 GT VR-4. I hav not experianced any head gasket problems yet, but I have heard they are a b*%^$ to replace.

Weakness:

Be careful in wet wheather, I nearly totaled it when I poped a curb and tore up my under carage it cost nearly $3,000 for repairs. Also parts are very rare and expensive so don't wreck it.

The Toyota Supra is a great reliable car that gets alot of attention, wanted or not. I recomend this car to any one that wants to go fast and get noticed. It also makes red necks really mad when they see that an import has just beat their Mustang.

Model Reviewed: Twin Turbo (1JZ - JZA70)

Strength:

Very high top end power and accelleration. Engine short stroke, revs out really quickly. Good fuel economy (Compared to 7M) if you lay off the loud pedal.

Weakness:

Rear End hard to keep straight - Needs wider tyres and traction control.
Heavy - Slow of the mark. The twin turbos help but there is still considerable turbo lag. Recommend transplant 2JZ-GTE. Factory standard has boost (10psi) and speed (110 mph) limited. Fuel economy is bad when the turbos are running.

280 Hp for factory stock, More power available if you bypass the factory boost limit. Good for 15psi est 350 Hp. Not bad for 2.5L. Got more style and luxury feel than the MKIV - More of a GT than a sports car.
Hard to get. Recommend purchasing a MA70 (7M-GTE) with a broken engine and transplant the drvechain out of a japanese wreck.

Similar Products Used:

MA70, MA60 Supras. - Has the power that they lack.
351 Cube V8 Holden (General Motors) - Behind at the start but caught up when the second turbo kicked in. - Left it for dead.

Strength:

I purchased the Toyota Supra Twin Turbo 6 speed, it was a sweet car, had some great potential for handling and straight lines, I raced a few different types of cars....

Weakness:

Worst performence car I ever purchased,

Lost to a c5 by about 5 car lengths, was taken at mosspoint 1/4 mile track by a light moded talon (I ran 13.4 with stick) disgusting clutch, I would not recommend the Supra for anyone looking for a serious sports car.

I would recommend this car to a person who has a lot of time and money on there hand, this car is not cheap to modify, there are some simply modfication you can do. However it barely does anything. The car handles pretty good, and has a lot of technology put into, but a v6 twin turbo, just does not make a serious sports car, I sold that car 4 months after I had bought it, after a turbo problem,

Do yourself a favour, dont blow your money on this thing, get yourself an older MR2 Twin Turbo, Mustang Cobra, Trans Am, or possibly a 1990 SUPRA Turbo and save yourself some money.

Similar Products Used:

Pontiac Trans Am Ram Air-----They stay with eachother to about 40mph and then the supra turns into a civic and dies.. Acura NSX, A friend owned one, we raced a few times, and I did take him out, funny how acura nsx claims a 12.9 on the 1/4 mile, (acura bs) it's a good looking car, and styling car, but it cost to much to maintain, and modify.

Model Reviewed: Toyota Supra Turbo

Strength:

This car handles and rides excellent! The turbo has no lag and the engine has a lot of torque. A very refined car with great looks.

Weakness:

Blown head gasket is very expensive to fix properly. My block had a little pitting where the gasket broke so, the block had to be taken out of the car and resurfaced. The head couldn't be resurfaced along with the block because the compression ratio would've been to high so, I had to buy a new head at a cost of $1400. Total cost of the Blown head gasket was over $5000. Keep in mind the car was driveable when I brought it into the shop. The car never overheated or seized up on me. I thought it would be a simple $1500 head gasket fix. I'm not sure how long this head gasket will last so I'm selling the car and buying something else without a turbo on it. Great car before this happened.

I wouldn't recommend this car to anyone unless you have money to burn fixing up the head gasket or turbo when it eventially goes. It is a great car to have when everything is working right.

Strength:

FAST,TURBO IS GREAT, Smooth Look, Fun, Great Tranny(6Spd), Awesome interior, Good Targa Top, Best Braking car Car&Driver Magazine has ever tested, Great Ride, Easily modified to 400hp plus, Reliable.

Weakness:

A lot of maintenance, like any turbo. Heavy. Hard to find. The non turbo is slow but if you just want to look good its OK.

Now that they are not imported here the price has gone down sufficently. New, the car was a little over-priced. Now it is the best and fastest car for the money. I bought mine with 40K miles for 27K. There is nothing close for that much money. I reccomend it to anyone that wants to go fast and turn heads. I dont reccomend it to anyone who dosent want to takecare of it and use a Turbo Timer. I cant stress that enough. Many people do not know what it is and think its a ferrari or somthing so thats always funnt too. BUY ONE TODAY!!!

Model Reviewed: TT 6 speed

Strength:

1. Build quality is excellent.
2. Car is very reliable.
3. Car is very fast and stable.
4. Car is supreamly well balanced.
5. Car has monsterous grip in turns.
6. The brakes are uncannily good.

Weakness:

1. A little too much plastic in the cabin for a car of this price.
2. Stereo was just average.
3. Do not even waste your time removing the top.
4. Useless back seat.

This is hands-down the finest overall sports car I have had the fortune to own. There are many cars out there with slightly more power and acceleration but only a rare car can translate this into better control for the driver than the supra. There is a rather tight curve that I could make at 65 mph in the supra that I can take no faster than 55 in my Z51 corvette. Also if you get in to that curve too hot in the vette and let off the throttle the rear end gets loose. The supra is very forgiving and neutral. The rear end stays put wheather you increase or decrease the power in a turn. The supra is also much more interesting to do acceleration runs in. Once the tach hits 4300 or so, the second larger turbo kicks in and the tach needle frankly buries its self in the redline. You have to be very quick on the up-shift to avoid hitting the rev limiter.
I paid the full tariff of ~51K in 1995 for this car. Since then the price has dropped once about 10-12K then the importation of this model was discontinued. I never regreted the price but now there are probably some low mileage 1997 6-speed TTs available for much less. Buy them!

Similar Products Used:

1995 BMW M3 - nearly as good handling but nowhere near the power.
1998 Corvette 6-speed - has more broadband power but is poorly balenced and thus handling is unpredicable at the limit and can be dangerous.

Strength:

Guys love the performance, chicks dig the looks. If you can't pull women in this then there is no hope for you. Destroys new 5.7L Holdens with ease, every1 wants your spoiler on their car, cockpit interior means business. Similar straight line performance cars fall well short of the Supra when it comes to a corner.........how many cars come stock with a set of Bilsteins?

Weakness:

No space for friends in the back.....but they would completely remove all visibility through the rear anyway. Police hastle me about the car.

Fantastic car that has reliability and performace. Easy to drive on the street and yet challenging when pushed. Braking is better than the Aus performance cars and servicing is comparable other Toyotas. Addition of a blowoff valve makes every bystanders jaw extend 10cm when you change gears. Exiting corners on boost always brings an evil grin to the driver, passenger and onlookers. Mine came with a kenwood minidisk which is great because the standard unit looks ugly. Keep the traction control off unless you are a Holden driver.

Similar Products Used:

300zx - what a joke, I actually liked these till I drove one.
Nissan GT-R - acceleration is comparable but looks cheap and doesn't "do it" for the ladies
Mazda RX7 - didn't know weather to hammer it cause it might blow a rotor or run out of fuel
Impreza WRX - too slow, too many doors, and too much turbo lag....and insurance is heaps more than it should be
