Strength:

Handling and high end accelleration

Weakness:

leaks and limited parts; especially upgrades

This car is fantastic . Purchased with 98000 original miles and I have
175,000 now. Turns curves like a shark and will creep up on anything that moves and espically those new cars that customer are still pay for. In fact it pissess people to see such acceleration in such an old car

Similar Products Used:

To compare it with some of the earliest cars today it is as powerful in most cases. In fact I am adding a Hadayme muffler and Random technology converter for a additional 50 HP

Strength:

power, aggressive stance, very few around here and not a mustang or camaro

Weakness:

definitely the head gasket, expensive to maintain

people who have families should have another car. space is very tight in the back. if you get one immediately get a metal headgasket. they are worth every penny. they are wonderful drive backroads, street, highways. when i got it, it had been seriously abused quart of oil every week. ihad it two years before i spent any more money on it. i'm getting the motor rebuilt after 220,000 very hard miles. i recommend this car to anyone who cant find a 3rd gen supra

Strength:

Reliability of a lexus, power of ferrari. i just got a reman-ed engine w/ the metal head gasket, and everything is great. Please make sure you modify a car like this, or any turbo charger sports demon, such as the 91 $upra Turbo Targa'd Out 5-$peed modified monster (HK$). Get the largest amount of rubber possible on the back. I like the feeling that there are never more then seven cars like mine for sale at any time. Porshe Boxters are a joke. I will never understand why people will pay more for less performance. And its a TOYOTA. What more can you ask for except a mkIV? modified? and the targa top and factory system. they're cool. just add a couple custom subs where the back seats(completely useless) used to be.

Weakness:

Heavy Beast. Nothing a little modification won't cure. RWD sucks in the winter. The Head Gasket is known for terror. Nothing a little HKS won't fix. you really have to maintain a car like this.

Well I love it. for the money the performance is un believable. Its held up well, and you have to maintain the hell out of it or it all goes to sh*t. all cars like this. this is not a ford probe. it will eat them all on the twisties, mr mustang Ram Air 5.1 Boxter Type R Pontiac Super Charged whatever with racing stickers, ferrari wings and nitrous-- they cannot be compared with supras, because they don't have supra technology. The Supra is an amazing car. and its not very expensive. for the performance. second to none. upgrade everything, and you will have something special. if you want to smoke any car up to about 50K, buy a supra turbo. and then modify everything. even though stock it still kicks @SS. these cars can be modified to produce 600HP at the wheels reliably without nitrous. and the handling is great stock, much better modified. over all a good car to have. not too bad on the gas

Strength:

Handling, reliability, acceleration, top speed, uniqueness, looks...it's a Supra!

Weakness:

Poor rear view visibility (blind spots), everyone wants to race you, cargo space is a bare minimal, I've become a total snob towards Camaro and Mustang owners. Ha!!! And don't forget all those vatos who put one of our spoilers on the back of their Oldsmobile. Get a grip, losers, and stop wishing you were driving a Supra!!!

When I first got my Supra, I was a bit disappointed with sluggish pickup in the low gears. Maybe I was expecting TOO much, but nonetheless I'm very happy with the car. I'm most impressed with the handling and stability at high speeds. I intend to keep her stock (at least the engine) so that she lasts forever.

Strength:

Rare, so you wont find yourself in the lane next to you. That is, if you find anyone in that lane after the green. Good pickup - even for mine with over 150,000 miles.

Weakness:

Head gasket is said to be the devilchild of crap quality. Replace it with an HKS metal unit and forget it. Shifter throw is like dragging a log out of a river. This can be fixed with a modification, not a $200 short shift kit.

My car has 150 grand on the odo. That's a LOT of miles. It still dosent burn oil, and still has good power. The handling on the car can give you a concussion if you're like me and slapped on 245/45ZR17's, and not expecting to get over .9 lateral G's. The goose-egg on my head is good proof. Stock and new, this car is a good deal faster than most daily drivers, and simple mods will have the car "barfing out more power than most sports cars know what to do with". Espically the turbo. I have the first MkIII, so I also have a piece of history. This is a keeper.

Strength:

Super Speed, huge engine, great acceleration, very powerful car, beautifully shaped especially for an 80's car, dependable, foreign, nice features. Bought for $2000.

Weakness:

very very very costly repairs, hard to reach parts(transmission is a b***h), tires very expensive, that tired stripe on the side that you can't pull off.

Great car, classic. paid $2000 and love my car.I would recommend an 87 supra to anyone but please check them good because the parts and service is expensive and the parts are hard to reach for the most part which makes it hard to work on yourself. Most of the screws to the major parts have never beem removed because the car is so great that the part hasn't needed replaced. This makes the screws hard as hell to take out(ask my pops).

Model Reviewed: .5 Toyota Supra Turbo

Strength:

1. Incredible performance, and reliability
2. Styling, fit and finish
3. Many aftermarket parts and support (mkiv.com)
4. Sticks to the ground like glue
5. Great exaust sound (especially with downpipe)
6. Very comfortable leather seats
7. Climate control and traction control
8. 400+ HP with BPU mods (Intake, Downpipe, exaust, Greddy BCC, Boost contoller)
9. Once BPU'ed, will whip everything on the road, except maybe a new 911 turbo, or a new Viper.

Weakness:

1. Could use a better stock stereo (no bass)
2. Rev Limiter at 6,800 RPM's
(Other than that, no weaknesses)

I searched for one of these cars for 6 months, and finally got a great deal on a 6 speed w/ the targa top. The car has 50,000 miles on it, yet looks and feels new. These are very fast cars, especially if you keep the revs up, and you do the BPU's (highly recommended) Feels very strong and solid around turns, no body movement at all. No other car can match this car's performance and quality for the money, NONE. The 300zx is closest, but it wasn't even a consideration. The rx7 is quick and handles great, but does not feel strong, and reliabilty is very poor. I won't even bother comparing this car to a mustang, camaro, or trans-am, there is no comparison, they're junk. Even an NSX is slower and costs 2-3 times more. A Corvette C5 might be this car's only competitor, yet it costs twice as much. If you want a high performance car that rides like a luxury car (and who doesn't?) this is the car for you.

Strength:

cozy interior, very catchable when the tails steps out in a tight turn/still feels heavy tho, stays planted in sweeping turns, easy to live with as a second car, stresses out the souped-up Civics and changes lanes easily, comfy on road trips

Weakness:

more power please, and better outward visibility

if you want a car thats easy to drive, goes reasonably fast, and makes you feel good, the Sup' is good for the $$. The only thing missing is more power. I especially like the interior - it just takes me out of my very ordinary world and is a good place to be when I want to play racecar driver
