Strength:

Engine- powerful and resiliant Handling- firm and nice Reliability- never had any problems with mine and it has 210,000+ miles Style- flip up headlights, twin spoiler, beautiful body Fun- it.. just is!

Weakness:

Lack of aftermarket parts- can be modified but takes a little more effort rear seat room- not good for road trips unless you got short friends

Great car. It is 18 years old and still has many luxury options just being used on new cars. The engine is strong and very reliable, mine has 210,000 miles on it and runs nearly perfect besides burning some oil. The twincam 2.8L L6 has definite power for it's age with 160hp in the 84/85, before 84 it had 145 on lower compression pistons. The car only weighs about 3050lbs making this power go a long way. At speeds of above 60mph this car can really shine. Passing power is amazing. Standstill acceleration is also good. For those who wish to modify there are not many parts but you can put a 6mge engine in to replace the stock 5mge and get an extra 30-40hp. You can also modify the ct26 turbo from the later model to fit both engines, and run about 8psi on stock pistons with about a 50hp gain, if you're a performance freak who will only use the car for racing, you can forge the rods and crank and other various stuff to make the engine withstand the power you could use the full 20+ psi get upwards 700hp. The engine is very resiliant for it's technological age. Mine is a 5 speed and the transmission is still original and works all right, a slight rattle at 2500rpm in 2nd gear but it hasn't caused a problem yet. Braking is decent, much better than on it's predecessor since the 2nd generation weighs almost 1000 lbs less than the 3rd generation. The backseat is small and has very little headroom with the sunroof option which makes it uncomfortable for anyone taller then 5'6. I'm 5'10 and hit the head in my back seat, it is very comfortable and make-out worthy though ;). Interior design is great with the gauges well placed and easy to read, climate controls are also good and the automatic climate controls make things very simple. Handling is great, my car runs on 235x60x14 tires and they stick like glue. Minimal body roll and the car sits high enough unlike most sports cars that you wont scrape the front end of it in every deep ditch you come across. Exterior design is beautiful, it is a style that will never get old even if you can easily tell that it is from the 80's. You don't see many of these cars so theyre easy to spot.

this is the only car I've owned but I've driven many other cars. similar generation 300zx and rx7 don't compare very well, not as reliable or fun to drive. more economical, reliable and luxurious than mid-late 80's 5.0 mustnags, cameros and firechickens while having similar power to all three. 3rd generation Supras do have 40 more horsepower but aren't any faster unless you have the turbo model (with 232hp) cuz they weigh 1000 lbs more. They are just as nice but have a lot more mechanical problems than the 2nd generation.

Strength:

Inline 3.0 liter 6 cylinder pulls a lot of power. (I hate the fact that so many people assume its a V6, makes me crazy) Rear Wheel Drive. should I say it again? This ain't yo' Momma's camry. I have a passionate dislike for front wheel drive, and love my RWD sports cars. FWD is not an option for sports cars. Automatic is agreeable, and likes to downshift for good acceleration. Dual mode suspension is pretty cool, although I wish it had a bigger effect. Power everything. Leather. Hardcore stereo... is this a sports car or a luxuory car? Looks AWESOME. Especially at night. I love pop-up headlights! Very comfortable. In sport mode going 110mph down the freeway, it just glides. Find me a camaro that comfortable, I dare you. Did I mention how cool it looks? At night? Blowing past your Modded Honda? All in all this car is great. Not a lot out there, not too difficult to care for, a pleasure to drive, and a head turner. And best of all, all the little street racers out there, with their little civics with modded exhausts that think they're all cool... run as fast as they can when a supra shows up and revs... Pansies. The name definately precedes the car. It doesnt matter what you have under the hood, people are afraid of the supra.

Weakness:

Likes to Overheat. Descent gas mileage at best. I get around 18mpg. Headgaskets all blow out around 150k. Turbos will blow out sooner. Lots of Brake dust. I spend every weekend cleaning my (Stock!) Rims to keeps them shiney and new looking. Heavy. Not all bad, it makes the car very safe and solid feeling. But god Awful weight for a sports car, at nearly 3900 lbs, it takes a lot to get that beast moving, and a lot more to stop it. Relatively slow response to input. Accelerator, Brake, Steering. it all comes slowly to the supra, even if it is all powerful when it comes, it takes a while to get there. Expensive. Parts are rare, and people who know what they're doing with them even rarer. I had a mechanic tell me the supra was a POS because he couldnt find parts for it, and then tell me it was a FWD four banger. I nearly killed him. I opted to shove him under the hood and make him count the cylinders instead. Lots of eletrical parts. Most of which want to break. My supra has nearly all new wiring thanks to some of my handy work. Hard to see over the nose on an incline. Im a tall guy. My friends are all big guys. We average around 6'3". The front seats of the supra are excellent. Lots of room, lots of comfort. The back seat, however, is useless. Seriously, fold the rear seats down and use it for subwoofer mounting. You'll be a better person for not making anyone sit back there. Ever. Speaking fo being tall; headaches aplenty from bumpy roads. I hit my head on the edge of the sunroof constantly. I wish I had a targa...

I purchased my first supra when I turned 17 for $1900. It was a slightly beat up 87 N/A automatic. I would have rather had a five speed, but I needed a car, so I got it. The engine had around 220k on it, but the odometer had quit around 130k. The transmission was shot, a soleniod had gone out in it, and it had engaged "limp mode" where it ditches first gear to avoid damage to the torque converter. But like I said, I needed a car. Anyways, I drove it to and from work everyday, saving up money to fix the transmission and a few other minor things wrong with the car. other than the lack of first gear, I had few problems and drove it for close to a year. Then, literally a week before I sent it into the shop for the trans. I was rear ended. I was stopped and a pick up hit me travelling approximately 60 mph. Totalled the car. it pushed the frame into the passenger door and crushed the gas tank. However, both me, and my passengers (1 up front, 1 in the back) were unhurt, and aside from a small list to the passnger side, I was able to drive the car home. I cannot say that I feel I would be as safe in any other sports car after this incident. Anyways, after a long ordeal with his insurance company, I was finally paid for my car, and they towed it off. I was so sad, it had been an excellent car, and made me love supras. After a few months, I found myself another supra. I had been looking for a 5-speed Turbo with a Targa top, but had been very unsucessful, when I stumbled across another 87. Just like my silver supra, it was a 1987 N/A automatic. However, it had 48,000 original miles, and had been sitting under a cover in this guy's garage for like 6 years. So I bought it. Maroon exterior, Grey leather inside, power sunroof, the works. All original, and all functional. It was love at first sight. I took her home, and quickly found that my new car was cursed. The next night it was towed away from my friend's apartment from an UNMARKED tow away zone. Remarkably, the idiot dragging it off didnt screw up the alignment, and after seeing some of the roads he took it down... yeah, remarkable. A week later, it was backed into in a parking lot while I was at a concert, smashing the driver's side door. And then it began... First, my mom backed into the rear end while it was parked in our driveway. then my neighbor ran into it while it was parked on the street. Then some old lady rear ended me while I was at a yeild sign waiting for a chance to go. All in all, 6 rear endings in as many weeks. And somehow, through a miracle of body shop technology, the popped out a few dings, threw some paint here and there, and you would never know the weeks of frustration I endured. But apparently, the car remembers. I live in Texas. It gets DAMN hot here during the summer, and apparently, supras dont like the heat. I havent run my AC at all. It works great, but the car overheats in about 5 seconds. Sitting in traffic? Not an option. It overheats. Drive for too long, Overheat. I've spent around $500 trying to fix my overheating problem, and it still persists. Also, I've begun to have a problem with a leaking cold start valve, and a few minor fuel injection issues, but otherwise, its a great car. I love its handling, size and power. Even though mine is an N/A, I've modded it a little to run ~250HP, and it sounds great. I love the throaty roar it gives when it comes to life, and the sound it makes when you open the throttle... I've had people jump back from the engine. Definately not a little rice burner. The dual mode suspension is cool, and the ECT mode on the transmission makes a big difference in highway acceleration. For it's size, it handles remarkable well, and is easy to drive, even at high speeds. I think my best so far is hitting 145mph according to my GPS, but the speedometer was buried around 150. The stock stereo was kicking, then it kicked, so I dropped a new system in it, along with an alarm and a few other goodies, and its become a rather impressive machine. Unlike what a lot of people have said, I've had very little trouble with my supra overall, and highly recommend it for its great ride and strong motor. As with all cars, all you have to do is take care of it, and it'll take care of you.

My mom's got a '02 Subaru wagon I love. I've driven half a dozen supra's from all years, and am in a supra club. I've gotten behind the wheel of a few mustangs, camaros, a firebird, and a Corvette. I must say I'll stick with my supra. Aside from that, I've also driven a few subarus of varying years and makes, and a couple of other toyotas. I think the only car I'd take over a supra is a Subaru, but I'd have to fight myself over a turbo MR2. MR2's are awesome, but not for everyday use like my supra.

IT'S ENGINE BABY, can stand 700+HP without touching it's internals, wich you cannot achive with a GTR R32, YEAH BABY.

Weakness:

To me there are no weaknesses.

This is the third car I've owned and far the best in every way (power, looks, and that amazing engine that every body envy). Here in Australia many people compare it with the GTR R32, considering the weight of the supra, by adding a 3 inch exhaust and a boost controler would be as equal to the R32 . And if you wanna go wild with mods the SUPRA IS THE GO.

the Weight and the back seats are too small

My 1998 Toyota Supra is a Twin Turbo, when i bought it the car was already upgraded a little, the maxinum HP it has right now is over 500HP, osmne of my freinds incested to upgrade it to maxinum...but i guess that would take up too much of my money, I herd from them that i can upgrade the Supra's HP to over 1000...hmmm maybe thats not a bad idea....

None, I have chosen a non turbo because I don't want to spend too much money in the car. 220 Horsepower is enough for me, anything above that, CHP is going to get you...

Owned the Supra for 6 months now, and I am still getting tons of compliments from strangers in the gas station. NICE CAR! IS IT A GT? WOW, NICE, SUPRA? HA HA HA, FEELS GREAT TO KNOW THAT I OWN A PART OF THE BEST SPORTS CAR IN HISTORY.

Strength:

1. Luxury features, auto climate control, power driver seats, power windows, locks 2. Great power to price ratio 3. Not a rice rocket

Weakness:

1. Upgrading this car can be pain in the neck especially for a N/A like myself 2. Weight but probably designed the weight for safety 3. Stock rims heavy i would recommend you put a aftermarket light rims.

The problem that I see a trend among the Mk3 Supras i see out there on the streets is that fact that u folks just bang up this car especially the turbos did u know turbos have to warm up and cool down. Toyota's are meant to last for a very long time if you know how to take care of it. Anyways this is a great car very advanced in its time when it was developed. Luxerious offering very similar to the Lexus SC 300/400 in my opinion. Also the fact that you wont see like a million of them. Aside from that if you ppl are going for these cars plz plz take care of it.
