Strength:

Handles like a dream, stylish lines, fastest stock 4 banger w/o mods, potential 4 turbo

Weakness:

off line performance

I am 17 years old, and this is my first 944. Iv'e always had a love for Porsches' and this is the perfect car for me. Not only does it fly through the corners like it has superglue for wheels, btu its the fastest 4 banger on the road. It's not that great off the line, but once you get into 2nd or 3rd gear, hang on, cause a monster is about to come out. 131 mph beast.

Strength:

Steering, braking, handling, engine, looks

Weakness:

Water pump, timing belts.

This is my third 944; however, my first turbo. I always felt this was one of the best handling, steering, braking cars ever made. It begged for more engine. The turbo is more engine! The car was so far ahead of it's time, it is still a match for 95% of the cars on the road even though it is 15 years old. I am so completely satisfied with this car, I hope it will last me the rest of my life!

Strength:

amazing handling, perfect balance, beautiful interior and exterior designes, suprisingly fast, perfect gear ratios, and incredably relyable that is why the porsche 944 won 7th overall in lemans with only 54sec in the pit!(those who are familiar with the 24hrs at lemans truly understand how empressive this result is) But the thing i like the most about this car is how many girls it gets.

Weakness:

It's a porsche there are none!!

I'm 18 years old and this is my second porsche 944. i'm planing on buying a 911 soon but for now i'm enjoying my 944 heaven. This car is incredable!! it is a snake on the road corners are nothing for this car. I disagree with those who say "this car lacks speed" sure the car's take off is a little weak but once you get to 3rd gear hold on... cuz this bullet will fly (with proper shifting). i love this car's interior the hand stitched leather interior is a true work of art and the seats are some off the most comfortable seats i have ever sat in, they hold you in tightly, and everything in the cockpit is where you would want it to be. The exterior is also beautiful, it's sleek and sexy design get's heads turning. After all it is a porsche, a true european masterpiece.

Quite a peppy engine, its powerful but not too powerful to have people worried that I'm going to be a speed demon. It turns on a dime, my dad commented that it would beat almost any car on a slalom track. Its also quite reliable.

Weakness:

Hmmm, I cant think of any! Other than the cockpit is a little bit cramped, with almost usless back seats ( but so are most sports cars!)

I was only 15 years old when I bought my 944. I had wanted one since grade 4. I paid 3100 for it beacuse it needed an engine rebuild. My dad and I rebuilt it together, and at 250 000km he couldnt believe how good the condition of the engine was. The only problem was that it was burning oil. The cylender walls were as smooth as new. I live my car, it is guards red on tan leather with all options.

The porsche 924 is a similar LOOKING car, but less peppy engine, and not as good handling, as well as a cheap older style looking interior.

Strength:

Super fast (limited to just shy of 160 mph), powerful, manuvers like a dream, stops on a dime. After all, it's a Porsche!

Weakness:

The parts alone cost 10x what a Toyota or GM car costs. Labor is ridiculous (ex: to change the p.s. pump, one must dismantle the front of the engine to get at it.). Do not buy one of these unless you have the bank account to pay for all the repair the car WILL need!

I bought my 1988 Porsche 944 Turbo from a luxury car dealer in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. I would never buy from them again, and the reason why has to do with the 944's inherent weaknesses. This particular dealer keeps all its cars indoors and heated. Thus, you cannot judge cold starting issues. Be that as it may, I took the car for a drive and was hooked. The 944T is one FAST, POWERFUL car. So, I bought it. Then, the problems started. First, I had the car less than a week (in the cold), when I noticed the p.s. wasn't working right. To the mechanic! Result? The p.s. pump needed to be replaced (a known problem with the 944 because the balancer bracket that holds the pump is garbage). Problem? The pump and bracket, plus labor, was nearly $3,000! The alternator also needed to be replaced - another $1,000. Then, they found coolant in the oil. Why? Could have been head gasket, intercooler, or the intermix pipe. Pipe was most obvious problem. Another $2,000! Now, post repairs, the car still won't start because there is another mechanical gremlim draining the battery.

Strength:

Handling - this is the number one benefit of the car. A near 50/50 weight distribution between front back and a frighteningly powerful grip on the road mean this car can take turns at speeds that would send other vehicles skidding off the road. Reliability - IF you perform all the necessary preventative maintenance (timing belts, water pump, oil changes, brakes), the vehicle will treat you very, very well. German Engineering - This car was well made, and it shows.

Weakness:

Maintenance - If you get it done regularly, it is not expensive, but this is not a japanese car. Expect to spend some money on this, but it is worth every penny. Power - This is a 4 cylinder car, and even the 944 Turbos are not overpowering. Drive for finesse, handling, and overall agility of the vehicle, but don't get it to drag race. You are better off with a Mustang if you intend to race without turning your steering wheel.

This is a car for people who love performance automobiles. The Porsche 924/944 was state-of-the-art at the time it was made, and now it is showing its age in terms of accesories. The stereo is unimpressive, the car does not have power everything or truly impressive climate control, and the look of the car is very simplistic but nice. However, the car performs excellent even in comparison to modern vehicles.

Rides good Handles Great Gets a lot of looks Gas Milage is Great Not very expensive People are impressed when you say you drive a Porshce. You get to drive and own a Porsche

Weakness:

Weight need some reduction. (Stock about 2800lbs) Isn't a extremely quick car

I love the overall look of this car. It wasn't until the early ninties until most cars adopted less boxy car styling. This '83 944 is a very beautiful car, with aggressive styling (like the flared fenders). The quickness of the N/A is not what I truly desire, though. After much research, I found that this car can not be modified much, for speed (without spending a lot of money). If you are wanting fast then you have three real options. 1) Nitrous Oxide ($600-800) 2) Swap out the Porsche 2.5L engine w/ a Chevy Small Block, www.renegadehybrids.com LT1 & LS1 are the best bet ($3000+) 3) Sell it and get a 944 Turbo. They were made from '86 and up. This would be more cost effective than trying to make a N/A a turbo. ($8000 minus what you get for the other 944)
