Porsche 944 NA
Strength:
Handling, Styling and Looks, and Feel...absolutely top-notch. Their low initial cost is also attractive, and their abundance (in many areas) allows for room for negotiation. I love this car, and the only thing I would trade it for would be a 951, to have the ultimate experience. It's just so damn cool!
Weakness:
I would have to say the earlier cars are not particularly fast for a sports car, but they got better as time went on...also, maintenance costs and parts, especially in Canada where 944's are more rare, can be quite expensive. The timing belt and clutch jobs are very pricey. But trust me, care for these cars and they will repay you with the most satisfying ride you can find. I found this car with 73000 original kilometers 2 summers ago through a friend (price above in CDN dollars). I'm the 3rd owner, it has had no accidents. Before this I owned an '83 944, I fell in love with it at first sight. But the car only gets better each year of production. My '86 feels more solid than any other car I've ever driven...I'm 21, but I ran my own car cleaning business a couple summers ago and I drove many different cars. Even compared to modern sports cars, I've yet to drive a car that feels as tight and as solid as the 944. Sure, I've driven faster cars (2001 Nissan Maxima, 2002 Mini Cooper S, 2002 Acura RSX), the NA's are not known for their speed; look to a 951...but the handling is still there, and they are still quick. The styling is absolutely timeless, people who don't know the cars still ask me if it's new. The curves are as sexy as can be, but do not fall into goopy or bulgy like most crap-ass cars on the road today. The interior looks just as modern as any 2004 model. I remember the Mustang fishtailed at the sign of a drop of water on the road, and it was chock full of electrical problems. Compare to clumsy clunky american cars like my Mustang, or cheap tinny Japanese cars; nothing tops German engineering, and nothing tops a Porsche. Turbo S
Strength:
Chassis - Balance & poise Race track ready in stock form (avg cars can't take the track) More fun than you should be allowed for such little money
Weakness:
Can't use full potential on the street with out a ticket to jail Eventhougth they are cheap to aquire they require attention to maintence to keep at the edge of performance. They may be as cheap as beater honda, but still need to be maintained. I aquire my first 924S in 1990. Great car. In 1996 it met an untimely end, but did launch me on the path to may more. I later got a 944 Turbo S. 250 hp from a stock 4 cyl. I amazing. I then took it out to the track and learned that with some skill the car could stay with just about anythign out there. Since then I added a 84 944 NA for daily driving duty. I have built a 944 specifically for racing. I have one for autocrossing. My father picked up an 86 Turbo for track use. Overall these cars are some of the best cars you can get for their extremly low aquistion cost Similar Products Used: 2001 VW GTI |

Woodsguy has posted a review on EVERY car that I have checked out on this site, he must be very busy driving all these cars. I have failed to find a vehicle that he has not reviewed
Weakness:
Somehow, each positive review has been rated "1 star" numerous times while Woodsguy's "reviews" quickly gather multiple "5 star" ratings!?! This posting is a reply, replies are not supposed to exist here but it is a reply to several posts that also are violations of rules on this site but remain here anyway. I encourage the Admin/mod to delete this posting, along with those of woodsguy. Woodsguy seems to have a problem with the fact that multiple reviews came in on the same day, in fact, a link was posted on a site frequented by Porsche owners (read; actual owners, the very people that this site hopes to attract) by someone who was pleased that there were numerous favorable reviews. Of course a dozen or so people followed the link and added their reviews, one would think that this is what this site is intended for, the impressions of actual owners of the vehicle in question. Several of us have reported Woodsguy's reviews as being in violation of the published "review guidelines" (in fact, he is in violation of more than half of these "guidelines"), yet his "reviews" remain. He has violated guidelines #2, #3, #4, #5 and #7 from the list on the right. At this point, the credibility of this site appears very questionable, reported violations go unanswered for a full day (this site claims to review these things daily). Similar Products Used: I have encountered people similar to woodsguy, but the guidelines prohibit me from specifing the traits that make them similar. |

A classic "driver's car!"
Weakness:
none, if you know what you're doing. Even the NAs are pretty fast in the hands of a skilled driver, but you DO need some skill. the reviewer who felt they were slow (and doesn't even have one) certainly just doesn't know how to drive very well. I'd bet he's never even been on a track, but I'd also bet that he doesn't bleong at a track. Similar Products Used: Audi, BMW, Corvette, |

Definately a head turner, otherworldly handling, Porsche comfort, and they're cheap!
Weakness:
Parts can be a tad expensive, but not /too/ bad. Labor could kill ya. But its not too hard to work on. The NA is a little slow, but still more than enough Porsche to get you in trouble! (Although the handling of this beast can compensate for that to some degree...and yes, you can spin a 720 on the freeway without hitting anything...) These cars are awesome! Ask anyone who owns and does his own work on it... You can outhandle a Boxter and still get close to 30 mpg. If its too slow for you, that's what TURBO is for. Otherwise, great styling, great handling, and great support from other owners! These cars are awesome! Beautiful, perfect handling cars that go 400+ miles on a tank of gas. Very strong and quick if you learn how to drive one properly. Bulletproof as long as you keep the PM up to date. Would take a 944 as a daily driver over anything else any day. |
