Ferrari 360 Modena Sports

Ferrari 360 Modena Sports

DESCRIPTION

(1999 - 2005) The 360 shares the same basic 3.5-liter DOHC V-8 with the F355, but has 400 horsepower (25 more than the F355). With either F1 paddle shift or a six-speed manual transmission, the Modena hits 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. Not bad....

Since a review is basically our humble opinions (should be anyway). I feel compelled to say this. I myself have been guilty of playing the numbers game. Keeping track of all the performance scores and comparing apples to oranges just to see how things add up. To see who's better. Its taken me some time to realize that this is not what buying or owning a true sports car is about anymore. Most of today's respectable sports cars from companies such as Ferrari, Porsche, BMW and Audi to name a few produce vehicles which are all stellar performers in their own rights. Nine out of ten of us who drive and own these vehicles of the soul aren't good enough to truly realize their potential. Unless say your one of the truly gifted like for example the prancing horse's M.S. we are all mortals. Which finally brings me to my point. When it comes to buying and owning a sports car it is very much a visceral thing. When it comes down to it we make our decisions based on how great it makes us feel when we slide into its cockpit (damn practicality we are supposed to have fun) . Because behind the wheel of "our" special cars we become a little like the greats that drive these jewels to the winners circle every Sunday. Because they transport our soul to another time when its always sunny and the road winds endlessly into the horizon.

Strength:

Definitely one of the best birthday presents I have ever received, this sexy beast is a real head-turner and when it wails, women come running. Get used to attention, lots of it.

Weakness:

What's not to like, except that you have to watch where you park it---security is an issue and there is no shortage of jealous folks eager to run their keys across the paint.

Definitely worth the money and a lot of fun. I'd particularly recommend this as a third or fourth car.

For a supercar, it's also a pretty decent daily driver, although I prefer to use my Carrera 4 when it's icy out (fairly often this winter).

Everything about the car. Fast acceleration, amazing handling-the car does not want to leave the ground, awesome looks-she is HOT! Power, top speed, transmission, that fantastic ferrari 6-speed manual gear change, no F1 crap which is only useful on the race track. Performance is awesome. I love ferrari. People love this car. I got the car in yellow and I LOVE THIS CAR!!!

Weakness:

None on the car itself. The fact that it is a Ferrari and some kids may get jealous, must be careful where I take it. Expensive parts-I haven't had to buy any yet. Low gas milage.

I am a car inthusiast, I dont car about interior, or getting girls, I drive it because I want car and performance, and any other bonus that comes with that-girls etc., I will take! Ferrari have made a awesome car the handling of this car is amazing I have taken sharp corners at high speeds with this car and it just sticks to the road. THe car is just balanced to prefection. All I want to do is drive it, I have spent alot of money on gas the last month but it is worth it, I drive it down the pacific coast line through all the twisting roads and it is the ultimate driving experiance. I advise getting the red, silver, or yellow, dont get black because you cant see its beautiful shape. I have been a ferrari fan all of my life and ferrari has made a true supercar. If you can afford the 360 and find one, buy it, I waited over a year for mine and it was worth it.

To the person who poorly rated the Ferrari before. I am a student at Purdue University, but my father is a collector of fine cars. We have had a 348, 355, and soon to be modena spider. We also have the new 911 turbo and assortments of other cars. I would agree that the 911TT is an incredible car, but the ferrari and porsche are very different and the ferrari's aren't about showing off. All of the ferrari's we have owned were extremely well crafted and never had any problems whatsoever. THe engine sound is defiant in sound. The porsche, however, is a engineered car. It's make purely for performance, something that wasn't ferrari's main concern. Porsche is a great acheivment in engineering, but the pure luxury that is in a ferrari and the story behind ferrari is amazing. If you want a showoff car, go but a lamborghini (If you have ever seen the build quality of one, you know what I mean), but a ferrari isnt what you think it is.

Strength:

Absolutely drop dead head snapping gorgeous looks. The first day I parked it at Burnaby mountain to go for dinner I was accosted by a crowd waiting for me at my car. It's pretty much been like that ever since. Also, it appears this Ferrari can be used as a daily driver except when there is any chance of snow or ice on the road. The trunk is usably larger though not huge but the cockpit is absolutely cavernous, especially for a supercar. The braking is superb and the acceleration is amazing. Did I mention that this thing is gorgeous? Finally, at speed, this thing is fun and fantastic driving. The interior noise is a bit loud compared to your regular car but all that goes away when you open the window. It gets louder, but the sound from the outside is wicked, gutteral, and magically raises your testosterone levels.

Weakness:

Despite amazing acceleration, rumors of the gas being touchy are completely true. In accelerating from a stop, you are either starting too slow or too fast without an easy way to be at the right speed. I attribute this in part to the computer controlled F-1 clutch which does partial clutching in low acceleration but if you want to speed up a little, it enages the clutch completely, gives you a surge of speed, and now you've gone too fast. Yes, you can get the exact speed you want but you have to work for it unlike in any consumer car you just push the gas until you're going at the right speed with the exception of a few cars. In retrospect, I would have gotten the manual transmission. I opted for the F-1 because it is (a) cool (b) technologically very interesting (c) a conversation point and (d) those steel gates did not inspire quick shifting. Another downpoint of the F-1 transmission, is you lose the ability to double-clutch, double de-clutch and, importantly, gives you an escape exit. If you're wheels are slipping, push in the clutch, your wheels fall to neutral, then you can re-engage power at your will. In the F-1, shifting to neutral is not fast (click both paddles), but more importantly, re-engaging the clutch while moving brings you to the highest gear possible at that speed. This is often fifth gear. Obviously completely useless as a quick fix like pushing the clutch in. Other F-1 issues are that you can't re-engage gears at near zero speeds without first pushing firmly on the brake. This makes you look a bit like a fool as you push the brake to stop your car when everybody else is moving (and since nobody drives an F-1 they don't have a clue why you are braking before you start going). Granted, this is rare and you learn to avoid situations where this happens completely, but still, you shouldn't have to adjust your driving to the car. The touchy gas/F-1 shifting also contributes to the problem of easy to get wheelspin, especially in any sort of wet. For the life of me, I find it very difficult to merge into a lane from a stop in the wet. I always get wheelspin when I need a bit of speed. In other words, this car is not great in busy city traffic weaving in and out especially in the wet and I wouldn't even try in the snow. But, did I mention this thing is beautiful? Final weakness is it has about the worst gas mileage this side of a greyhound bus. Of course, if you spend this kind of money, it's not a big issue but I think it has the worst worst economy of almost any production car. I've heard that it is as low as about 9 mpg depending on who you believe. It actually seems worse as I fill up twice as often and it costs about twice as much as the Prelude (my backup car for now).

I think it comes to this being an absolute supercar bargain for several reasons:

1. Its gorgeous and there is very little that is better looking at any price
2. It is at the bottom of the price rung for supercars
3. In terms of depreciation, this car beats any car hands down. I bought it for about US $135,000 (CDN $210,000) and can probably sell it for a lot more making it probably one of the few cars that appreciates as soon as you buy it.
4. It is tremendously hard to drive fast (though, as I mentioned, a little more excruciating than it needs to be when driving it slow. Perhaps this is the way it was designed.).

Honda Prelude. Seriously, I haven't driven any other supercars though I've read up about a lot of them. I'd like to give my insight to all those people who have regular cars and wonder if there is a huge difference between supercars and regular cars (I've always wondered myself). The answer is, not as much as you might think! Really. It is still a car and once you get over the fact that everybody stares at you (which I haven't yet really), it's just a car with different characteristics and, umm, drop dead gorgeous looks. In many ways, my Prelude actually is a more predictable handling car, works better in the rain, and I'm much more comfortable with the options in a manual transmission. There is no doubt about the fact that you can drive in city streets much more agilely in the smaller prelude which doesn't have the huge C-pillars which make for slightly scary lane changes, no wheelspin problems (of course deriving primarily from the fact that there isn't that much power available), and is not wide and hence easier to manoeuvre. The Ferrari can't be beat when any sort of power comes to question or one wants to attract any attention. Of course, this is an unfair comparison for both cars that are designed for widely different targets but I thought it might be of interest for the non-supercar group.

I cant get over the exhaust squeel! Every time i drive it sounds great from that deep and throaty noise it makes to the high pitched humming. (owners u know what i mean) It has a great body with hot lines and as for traction is amazing. Handling is a 10 as well! NAils u to the seat!

Weakness:

It is kind of scary to drive it slow, hard to handle and park. The interior is not as well finished as porsche though.

It goes fast and looks good! It was either a house or a car and i bought the car and my wife left me but that doesnt matter because the car brings in the hotties. Chicks dig it! Buy it if you can afford it or even if you cant. Oh and better learn how to drive a cheaper sports car first before you go and push this one.

Very quick, very gorgeous, exceptional braking, Ferrari class!

Weakness:

Well I'm 6'2" and I have a tough time moving in/out and around in it. Also the speedometer is in a funny spot and to much attention is payed to the tach. However these are all minor problems considering the perfection that has been payed to looks and performance.

Well I bought this car with 2,000 miles already on it for near full price. I think that this is one of the finer Ferrari's ever built and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves to drive. And just because you have money and love speed doesn't mean that this car is for you. I would recommend visiting the factory in Marenello and get an understanding about the history of Ferrari. It will make you appreciate this car much more!

Strengths? where do I start. Drop dead good looks. Exhaust wail like non other. This car actually throws off different screams as you increase in RPMs. Ferrari really has improved the fit and finish compared to the 355 (My last car) although they still have a long way to go to meet Porsche's interior build quality. The paint finish on this car is absolutely gorgeous. There is nothing cooler than the see-through engine hood which lets one see just how beautiful this awesome V-8 is built. The front view of this car which has been somewhat criticized by some, in my opinion is the best view of the car. However, there is not a bad view of the car from any angle. You have arrived if you own this car. It is also the worlds most sought after sports car. I hope this car continues to appreciate, "through the roof" I can't imagine how awesome the spider will be-Bring it on!!!

Weakness:

I've been driving this car for about 4 months and find very few week points to this car. Even the minor faults in the fit and finish can be overlooked by the overwhelming style, ect.. lets face it, its a Ferrari. Its expensive, it gets crappy gas mileage, you have to wait for parts if something should go wrong, you can't park just anywhere......GOD I LOVE IT.
There are no weaknesses,

I paid about 10g over sticker. The dealer was pig but not a hog. I still made out pretty good considering the on-going appreciation and the promise of this in the future.
Of course I recommend this car. It is everything you dream about when your a kid. If Enzo was alive he would be high-fiving the design team in Marranello over this car. I don't know if I would purchase this at the 250k level but I certainly think you can't get hurt if you can find one around 200k especially if it has some cool options. This car needs to have the red calipers and the scuderia shields in order to look its best-by far the best two options offerred on the car. Ferrari did it right with this chick-magnet 400hp beast. If you can afford it, get it. Its that simple. Sorry Porcshe!!!!!

The overall look. It is a great car to drive and fly down the highway in (make sure you get a very good radar scrambler). I love the sound of the engine. Its a car you can pick up alot of attention in.

Weakness:

That there are some bumpy roads near my house so you have to avoid those roads. The sound system wasnt too good but it isn'that bad.

I totally recommend this car if you have the money. The F1 tran. is great and with the sport shift on, it has great pick up. I love this Ferrari but I have to be careful where I bring my car because i dont want it keyed.
