M Coupe
Strength:
240hp M engine, huge amounts of torque in every gear, great trans and shifter, great looks, great exhaust note.
Weakness:
Soft top leaks unless tightened down by service dept then it is hard to secure or release. Left-side blind spot with top up. Plastic rear window with no defroster creases easily. Low quality construction of license light/bracket tail assembly. Mid $40's. Would not recommend for cold or rainy climates. Question quality control at factory. Classic nostalgia roadster, owner must be willing to put up with problems as a trade-off for the looks, power and handling. Similar Products Used: M3 two door was a much better car. Better quality control and far superior suspension. Mercedes SLK320, slightly less hp but far superior top, solid over-all construction. |

Strength:
super-sports car for price; rare auto...some even ask who make it, despite BMW logos (duh); gets you up to speed and down quickly; no body movement during sharp turns; enough storage for a weekend trip; everyone wants to race
Weakness:
tires...came with Dunlops, which after two years of summer driving, are bald; don't even attempt snow driving without snow tires...even an dusting is trouble; everyone wants to race I had been a 2002-girl for many years when my boyfriend started talking about the M Coupe. We went to see it at the local dealership to which I thought, "uh...it's OK". Well, this car started to gnaw at me...I needed another look (and another). That's when we were reading everything about this car in Car&Driver, Road&Track, BWM, etc. Once I realized that I, a hard working professional woman, deserved a new car (never had had one before), I looked to the M Coupe. Seem like an irrational decision? Well, I just don't care...I absolutely LOVE this car. It has proven to be one of the best cars I will ever have the luxury of driving. I highly recommend this car to all those considering the pricey Boxster or the squashed-beetle TT...you just can't beat the power vs. price ratio. This car is best for summer driving, so if you are going to put on snow tires, expect a loss of performance. For that reason, I recommend this car to someone shopping for a sports car but has a second 'snow' car (plus, I wouldn't put my baby out in the snow because of all the SUV idiots who think they're invincible). Similar Products Used: 1999 M3 - the M3 is much quieter, but with much of the same power; the M Coupe shifter is shorter and overall tighter than the M3; the M3 feels lighter on the road, but still hugs turns nicely; braking is much softer on the M3 |

Weakness:
Hard top looks kinda corny Amazing car i paid 45000 for my yellow baby. I dont regret it at all and it hasnt failed me yet. If you wnat a fast roadster and and you have the cash dont even go to another dealer go to Beemer dealer. Similar Products Used: Mazda Miata- shoudn't be spoken in the same breath as the M roadster |

M Coupe
Strength:
I own the BMW M coupe not the roadster. The coupe is the fixed-roof model. They both share the same platform, engine, driveline, suspension and basic body structure. That is where the similarities end. The coupe is almost 300 percent stiffer than the roadster and its weight distribution is 50/50! The coupe's suspension has been modified to have smaller front and larger rear anti-roll bars. All the springs are stiffer. As well as improving structural rigidity and handling, BMW has also created a more spacious cockpit with almost double the cargo capacity. Now for the real story. No matter what you think of the M coupe's looks once you have driven it you will be a believer. The engine is a 240 bhp inline six with 236 lb. ft. of torque that is silky smooth like all the M engines. The engine sounds great through the dual exhausts. The rims are beautiful. I love this car so much I actual look forward to going to work because I get to drive my car. This car does 0-60 in just over 5 seconds and it stops on a dime (the M coupe has massive 4-wheel discs breaks assisted by ABS). I find it almost impossible to drive the speed limit. I have owned my M coupe for six months now and still can't believe how much sports car I got for $42,000!
Weakness:
Small gas tank 12.5 gallons If you don't want to own one don't drive one. Similar Products Used: Nothing is even close in this price range. |

Strength:
Pure driver's machine. Get rid of the passenger seat. Torque in all rpm range, in every gear, 50/50 weight distribution, super-stiff chasis, unique styling. Very rare car- only 1600 on the street.
Weakness:
Handling not as refined or predictable at 9/10 and 10/10. Small gas tank, no spare tire, limited seat travel. If you ever make a mistake of driving this car like I did even though it was out of my budget(by $8000), you will buy it! Of course, I don't regret it now. Every time I get behind the wheel of this M Coupe, my grin gets so wide I have to control myself from looking like the Joker. Similar Products Used: E36 M3, RX-7 TT, 300ZX TT, S4. Hands down over M3, quicker, more responsive. Others don't even come close. |

I think its art in motion. Take a look and eat your heart out, wow this puppy rocks!! Fast like American muscle cars, but so much better in the twisty stuff. I also think the quality of build is very high.
Weakness:
Small gas tank. The coupe has to be one of the best cars in the world. This car has personality, its says something about creativity. I'm so glad BMW had the guts to build this little hot rod. Similar Products Used: Before the Coupe I had a 911 Turbo, and lots of American muscle. All of these cars have great points, but the M coupe really stands out as outstanding. |

build, torque, ride, instant yet classic beauty of design and engineering. pure driving pleasure. fall in love again with an automobile. not a convertible.
Weakness:
not a convertible. car is perfect. build quality is first rate. dunlops 8080e are my first choice for handling/quality/wear (just add air or subtract air as desired). dot seats are a marvel to sit in. torque is right here, now. changes lanes like a well balance Norton. visibility all around lets you lower your shoulders all the time. ergonomics make you smile whether at rest or at speed. if driven you will get people following you, then pssing both left and right just to study the car. (get used to it because you would be doing the same thing if you saw how it looks and drives from the outside looking in.) and the aural stimulation is both soothing and inspiring depending on your mood. one last mention, the engineers and everybody associated with developing and disigning then bringing this automobile to fruition should know that more than just the few who were able to buy this car love the m coupe. i thank you all for every ride. Similar Products Used: s2000,slk 320+230,corvette c5,miata,mr2 spyder,boxster,996 and tt coupe. for pure driving pleasure after considering ride and quality factors the m coupe stands proudly at the top of my list. also it has cost me just $10.00 for maintenance. (yes, that's just ten dollars.) great treatment from sales and service at several bmw dealerships. |

M Coupe
Strength:
The first time I saw this car, I thought it looked like a shoe. Now, after a year of living vicariously with it, it is one of the most beautiful automobiles in the world. The long, dramatic hood, short overhangs, menacing front fascia, and yes, even the rear quarter, with its enormous fender flares and sleek roofline. The engine is absolutely incredible, with so much torque you could just put it in third and drive it like an automatic around town. Handling is unmatched at BMW, as well as at any other prominent German carmaker. Of course, beyond any dynamic strengths, it also has enough cargo capacity for several nights' worth of luggage, a full load of groceries, or two bags of golf clubs. A practical rocket sled.
Weakness:
If there ever was a car that deserved another gear, this is it. I've often caught myself beginning to shift into a non-existent sixth gear. The interior also feels too hard to the touch, especially the steering wheel. The ergonomics are perfect once you're in the car, but actually getting in there can be problematic. Parallel parking is a nightmare, with the large, expensive rims openly exposed to malicious curbs. A little wider rubber to protect the rims would have been welcome, and is still a good investment, as two rims have already been sacrificed to the curbs of Portland. I've also had a recurring problem with the rear hatch actuator, but other than that, it's perfect. This car shows that the shortest distance between two points does not necessarily have to be a straight line. This car relishes curves, diving in to them with virtually no body roll and perfect balance. It often feels impatient going through the corners, prodding you to delay your braking that much more, apply just a little more gas as you exit. Similar Products Used: BMW Z3 2.3 - Engine revs build slower, but has so much power throughout the powerband, there is really no comparison. Build quality is also chintzy in comparison to the M. |
