BMW M5 (2010 and older) Sports

BMW M5 (2010 and older) Sports

DESCRIPTION

Pros:

  • Powerful 500 hp 5.0-liter V10 engine
  • 0 - 60 mph in 4.5 seconds
  • Comfortable and supportive front seats
  • Optimum blend of supercar power and everyday convenience of a 4-door sedan
Cons:
  • Excessive technology takes away the visceral experience
  • Cannot disable stability control
Ruling: The BMW M5 emphasis is on performance, but it's luxurious cabin and long list of convenience features also makes for a very practical sedan.

The BMW M5 is powered by a hand-built 500-hp 5.0-liter V10,which can be mated to a 7-speed Sequential Manual Gearbox (SMG) with steering wheel paddles or a 6-speed manual transmission. M-specific suspension and steering help keep all that power under control, while four cross-drilled anti-lock disc brakes provide the stopping. The M5 also features the M Drive button on the steering wheel, allowing the driver to set and save their favorite vehicle settings and access the extra 100-hp when in M mode.

Model Reviewed: M5

Strength:

Power, handling, solid feel, awesome sounds, great styling. Holds 4 comfortably, good trunk space and fullsize spare. QUALITY construction!

Weakness:

Expensive, even as used car, and very expensive if it breaks. Auto-level suspension goes bad too soon.

A real drivers machine disguised as a family sedan. Back roads at 55 mph are a joy, high speeds are better yet. Deceptive speed; no belt in the back, but everything seems to quickly disappear behind me. (160 mph conservative top speed) I look for reasons to go out for a ride.

Strength:

Total refinement of raw power

Weakness:

Doesn't look like a Supercar.

I had to wait 6 months to get this car and it was well worth it.
I have always drove Mercedes and my last car was a 500 Brabus V12 and wow did it go!!!!! I love mercedes cars but i took a test drive in a BMW M5 one day and just fell totally in love.
Yes my Merc was nearly twice the price of the M5 and is not much slower but the M5 is just such a complete car. the handling is awesome and the smooth power delivery is to die for. My Brabus was like a rocket ship waiting to explode. The BMW is more refined and you feel more in control of the power. What a car.

Strength:

Safe, fast, luxurious, and a great eye catcher.

Weakness:

Little things break, but it's covered by a warranty.

This is without a doubt the best car on the road. Sure there's the Dodge Viper that goes for $20,000 less, but the M5 is the most practical car for the speed. The pros are it seats up to five people, it's a sedan, it's super fast, luxurious, eye-looker, and just about everything else is perfect. The cons are there are a lot of little things that break, but you're lucky because it's all covered by the warranty. I'm not a current owner of an M5, but my 23 year old brother is. And last week he got in a car accident while letting his friend drive a little drunk, well they were going at 6500 rpm@70 mph and a dog ran in front of the car, so they swirved and another car was in front of them, so they had to hit the breaks and then the car spun into a parked car. All 12 airbags deployed, their seatbelts tightened to brace them for impact, and they both walked away with nothing worse than a little shock. The only thing that I can say is thank you BMW. The M5 is the best car on the road, I recommend it to anyone who can afford it.

Strength:

That 400hp V-8, the sound, the luxury...

Weakness:

None whatsoever

I've been waiting to get this car since I was 13, and it's a dream come true. When I finally got it, I took it out on the Autobahn, and kicked everyone's butt. This thing is like a jet plane. It performs like no full-size sedan should. It accelerates better than a Corvette, and can beat a 911 in the straights. Braking is strong, though a little soft for my taste. When I have to stop at 178 mph, I want to stop! It lets out a little burble when you tap the gas that lets you know it's more than ready to shoot off into the horizon. The sound system is a 12 speaker German engineered Harmon Kardon, with subwoofer, and I swear I can't tell the difference between it and the acoustics in the Sydney Opera House. Luxury is optimum. If I have one problem with this car is fuel economy, but hey, nothing can actually be perfect. This is a true supercar, and it beats others that are more than twice the cost. A true gem. Happy Driving!
