its me again...............now i have had almost one month one the car...
quatro rocks my world fast as ever

Weakness:

gas mileage

2 days ago took it in a parking lot to a nice huge engulfing water puddle......put it in first...have it gas to about 4000 rpm and let it fly full speed......no slip.....nothing nada
my old car(the eclipse) would have spun all over......
still kicking everyones botty on the street
a prelude with a number of mods approached us the other day looking to race.....sure......took off at the green looked behind and he almost disapearwed...so we slowed down to wait for him.......he caught up and we were traveling side by side next thing i hear vtech kicking in,,,,,,just layed down on the gas again .....took him easy........here we are goin 0 ona 45....so i decide i will not go faster but i guess he wanted to boost his ego so he passed us probably goin 120 or so....we laughed.....what a sucky driver,,,what a crappy car...even hooked up.....this car is definately a waste of money....buying a prelude and spending thousands on it just to get spanked by me totally stock is ludicrous.....waste of money and my time.....

Strength:

Just about the entire car

Weakness:

The 6-speed isn't as smooth as it *should* be, but I'm interested in the Tiptronic. It should also have a little more aggressive styling or something to make it stand out from the average A4.

Ok, I'm hooked on the car! I've always liked Audi's and almost got an A4 before my Maxima but couldn't justify the price difference for the performance of the A4. Things are different now but I'm having a hard time trying to understand why Audi dealerships are gouging the price so much. The invoice price on this car is about $34K and dealers here in Atlanta are not budging off $40K! I think a $6K profit is ridicules for any car in this price range. Maybe I'm being a little frugal but I'd like to hear from the people that have bought this car and how much you paid? Are there any alternative's like carsdirect.com or autobytel.com? I'm looking into the 39mos lease on this car and for the price I was quoted today I was floored! Any comments would be appreciated, you can email them to ncglock@mindspring.com

Strength:

- Awesome power
- All Wheel Drive; TRACTION, TRACTION, TRACTION!
- Superb comfort & luxury makes the 84 mile round-trip commute tolerable
- As mentioned by others: Stealth! Camaro Kiddies don't know what hit 'em!
- The dealership. Incredibily professional and easy to work with.

Weakness:

- Not enough engine noise; i like an audible growl when I hit the gas
- SUV gas mileage (but who cares?)
- Cupholder not sufficient for my 44oz MotherOfAllGulps from the QuikTrip
- Impossible to find one on a dealer lot

It took 10 weeks of waiting for it to get built and shipped over here to the States, but it was worth it. I got on the interstate after leaving the dealership and accelerated up to 65mph or so. I noticed everyone was going REALLY slow and that's when I noticed I was doing 95, not 65. Yikes!

That pretty much sums up this car to me. It has incredible power and a suspension to handle it, but yet it is never harsh. It somehow manages to let you feel the character of the road while craftily dampening out the bumps. The ultra-quiet and luxurious ride make my nasty commute very, very tolerable.

Anyone wanting to get the best car possible for less than $40k should get an S4. You won't regret it.

Strength:

What do I think of the S4..... I loved the car for it massive acceleration,
braking, smoothness and can still remain as a luxury vehicle. The S4 grips very well during cornering and has very good steering feel. I
love powering out of turns because thats were the quattro really shines.
All Audi's are famous for making full acceleration runs when it rains the hardest, without worries about fish-tailing. To me, this is a perfect vehicle.

Weakness:

The S4 is no real sports car. On the twisty and in-out traffic, a Porsche Boxer or a Mazada Miata can out-manuver it (easily). The car is nose heavy and with all the weights it carrying, the S4 will understeer when taken to the extreme. I know some owner are willing to go the extreme of upgrading springs and shocks, I feel there's always that give and take. You gain handling, but you will loose the wonderfully refine ride quality.

For those that want everything in a car and are willing to spent the extra money. It's a great value.

Strength:

Elegance, style, speed with finesse! a Bimmer should have this class!! No need for hard shifting, the feel of every crack in the road. The S4 6 speed make the driver drive, but does not punish him/her for loving to drive. Do your after market thing, if you wish, but remember how wonderful the car is that you bought initially. No one ever said that driving a great car had to resemble driving a Roman chariot along rutty roads. This car flows around corners like a great ribbon in space. The sales staff was as interested in doing right by the customer as I have ever seen.No attitude here, but the easy establishing of a relationship. In what car dealership has anyone ever had that happen??

Weakness:

No weakness found yet. I hope never.

Paradise so far to drive. I hope I never take this car's power, beauty, and style for granted.

I drove the automatic--also a wonderful car, and the 6 with 250 horsepower.
That was fine. But, despite the 6 being one of the top 10 cars of the year, it seemd to me that the power and thrills were dissipated by the dimension of the vehicle. A sports car, even masquerading in a four door sedan suite and tie, should be relatively small and compact. The 6, to me, was a bit sedanish and less sporty, though still elegant and far above the crowd, even the fine Nissan Maxima.

Strength:

- 250bhp/258ft-lb in an incredibly well balanced and smooth reving V6.
- Quattro AWD gives great control in all but the most extreme conditions.
- Well laid out functional interior that is comfortable without being too luxurious.
- Practical enough for daily use, but boy is it fun.

- Gives the irresistable urge to exceed legal (and common sense) velocity limits.

Weakness:

- No real navigation system.
- Tight rear seat.
- No interior trunk release.
- "Optional" Bose stereo not much better than base stereo.
- Not so great mileage

- Gives the irresistable urge to exceed legal (and common sense) velocity limits.

Bought the Audi S4 after a month or so of extensive research (mostly on the internet), and test driving the primary competitors (A4 2.8, BMW 328, Acura TL, CL 3.2). Having had the car now for about a month, 2000 miles and two fairly long (500 mile) trips, I'm pretty confident I made the right decision. I bought the car with the convenience package, tiptronic transmission (more on that below), and the "optional" Bose stereo. The dealer came about $1000 below list.

First of all, this car is a blast to drive. It's plenty quick on the straight-away, even without the much talked about after-market ECU upgrades. From a dead standstill, 2 gears and 6 seconds later, you are already past the legal limit in most states. It also brakes well, and handles very well in corners -- and the Quattro AWD keeps the car glued to the road and on line, even in bad weather or road conditions. (Though this also means it isn't nearly as responsive in cornering, as compared to, for example the BMW.) The car is rock solid and quiet -- so much so that you often don't realize how fast you are going. It's the sort of car that will eat up stretches of I-95 no problem, but it also makes you want to take it onto routes like the curvy Merritt parkway or the meandering Rte 1 in southern CT, or some rural back road.

My SO had wanted to get the A4 2.8, but I prevailed and we ended up with the S4. Though she and I have very different driving styles, she has been quite happy with the car since. I think this is one of S4's greatest strengths. It works just as well tearing up asphalt as on a routine daily commute -- it is capable of being incredibly civilized. Very smooth, very quiet. So civilized, in fact, that the car was very comfortable for long trips.

My concession to practicality (and to my SO) was the tiptronic transmission, which has turned out to be a pleasant surprise. It isn't the 6 speed manual. But, it does give good enough control when one is so inclined, and the performance penalty is reasonably small. (The performance hit can be made even smaller by investing in GIAC's Tiptronic chip). On the other hand, the ability to just stick it in drive has made my drives in NYC much more tolerable.

There are minor things that are a bit irksome. The "optional" Bose stereo isn't that much better than the base stereo. Unfortunately, these things appear to be pretty "standard" on S4s -- the dealer could not find a single car without the Bose in the greater NY area dealer's inventory, nor among cars on its way across the Atlantic. There is no full navigation system option. The back seat is a bit cramped. The cup-holders are pretty much useless -- in an otherwise well designed interior. There is no interior trunk release. The lock system is a bit quirky -- for example, to unlock a and open a door from the inside, you pull the door handle twice. The driver's door is the only one with the lock/unlock switch. But these are all fairly minor quibles.

Overall, the S4 is highly recommended: great fun to drive, and practical (enough) to boot. Get one -- you will have to wait, but it's worth it.

Awesome pull, quattro is amazing, interior is beautiful

Weakness:

Definitely needs bigger and better tires.

I own a 996 but after adding a new chip, exhaust and some suspenion it is so much more fun driving the S4. It amazing what this little car can do and being a 4wheel drive car you feel as if sticks to the ground no matter what kind of road you are on. Buy the car drop a chip in it you are ready to take on any car on the road today, well maybe except the 911 Turbo.

Strength:

Low end torque, serious highway passing power in any gear, good handling, interior is nice, great standard features (i.e: xenons, free tiptronic transmission if requested), easily modifiable.

Weakness:

Availliability, rear seat leg room, shifter could be a little more precise, suspension is a bit plush for enthusiasts but great for everyday drivers, could get yourself into trouble becuase you don't realize how fast you really go in this car.

I paid 40,500 for my 6 Speed silver/onyx S4 fully loaded minus the navigational system and a changer. I do not regret a single penny I spent on this car because it worth it. I like the "sleeper factor" this car has because most people think it is an A4. I have not been dissapointed by this car yet. I can't imagine that this car is even faster with a simple chip upgrade. I have already installed a short shifter and MTM/eibach lowering springs, and an exhaust is also probably going in next week. This car is definitely a keeper, I love it.
