Weakness:

My one nit...poor stereo (Bose) and lack of navigation screen.

After living with this bomb for over 18 months, I can't think of another car I've enjoyed more in my 40 years of driving BMWs, Porches and Benzs. A perfect blend of speed, comfort and handling. A veritable wolf in sheep's clothing.

My wife has a new 330i 6 speed but was tempted to get another S4 she liked my car so much, but the looks of the coupe won out. I do like the transmission and the crisper handling of the Bimmer, but overall the S4 kicks ass. One can't own a better automobile for the money!!

Strength:

Good sport seats, comfortable, very quiet, lots of room in the trunk, 17 inch wheels, turbo charge, Only 2.7 liter engine (not much gas required), All wheel drive, and nice interior format.

Weakness:

Red light gauges really hard on the eyes, Audi should've added a distictive look to the s,4 more qualities so that it looks different from the a4 like a side skirts or rear spoiler or some sort.

Overall, the car was good. The value is good compared to other cars like the new BMW 3301, or the Mercedes-Benz c320, you get more torque, Horsepower, and options. It's a great car, but the new audi a4 is coming out soon, probably the fall of 2001, which will make the resale value of the s4 go down quite a bit in my view. It's better of if you waited a year or so after the new audi a4 comes out, then buy the s4 as a used car because you'll save more money.

Strength:

Engine acceleration and torque!
Well-appointed, comfortable front seat positions.
Power, handling, comfort.

Weakness:

Shift throws are rather long; I've ordered a short shifter kit.
Sound system is acceptable, but not up to the quality of the car.
The instrument display is red, as are warning lights. Contrasting colors would have been a nice idea.

Just returned from a 800 mile trip to Canada, and I'm increasingly enamored with this car. Great ride, effortless acceleration, and confident handling. The front seats are both very comfortable for road trips, and the driver's position is sufficiently adjustable that I can drive for hours and enjoy getting back in the car.

The low-end torque makes driving in town a pleasure, and you don't have to run at high RPM's to realize you're driving a performance car. I'm running about 22-23 mpg in town, and ran 27 mpg for the Canada trip, which was not at speeds approved by the RCMP. The trunk is spacious, road noise is pretty well suppressed, and the engine makes downshifting from sixth on the highway only an entertainment option, not a necessity. The suspension is a good balance--I wouldn't mind it a little firmer; my wife wouldn't mind it a little softer.

Drawbacks? I'm very comfortable driving, but I do have the seat in the bottom position. If you're taller (6'2"+) and like to sit up when driving, you may rub your head. I would like cruise control and stereo controls on the steering wheel. Backseat cupholder. More excuses to drive anywhere.

Looked at several two-seaters: Honda S2000, BMW Z3, Audi TT. The Audi is far more comfortable for me as a driver, more practical for the family, and had much better performance.
Looked at the BMW 330 series, but the ergonomics of the driver's position didn't fit me as well, my daughter preferred the ride of the Audi, and again, the performance of the S4.
If you find better performance and features for the money, PLEASE let me know. I couldn't.

Strength:

SPEED, GRIP, Status, value-

Weakness:

Paint is soft, roads are crowded..

Silky, smooth, very quick, sticks to the road through all conditions. I bought this car after extensive research on the internet. I went with the S4 over the 330i because of the value and because I do not want a poser car. It turns out this car registers on the posermeter a 10 but it is a wolf in hot blue sheetmetal. My wife agrees "this car is nice" and she hates cars for the reasons I love them. My daughter wants it when the lease is up, don't think so, she'll have to make due with my old GTP. It is amzing what it feels like to go *** in the pouring rain. If I had to do it all over again I would have bought. I have the tip, there are no complaints about rubbery shifting and the radio fills the bill--buy one!

Strength:

Superb low end torque, flat peak torque
Great acceleration
Sporty interior
Quiet engine for all the work it does
Quattro
4 doors
Lots of after factory upgrades - am looking forward to chipping this thing

Weakness:

Cup holders suck (not a good reason to not buy a car)
Back seat slightly cramped for tall people (but they can deal)
No interior trunk release (annoying, but no reason to not buy it)
Only driver can lock/unlock the doors (odd, but not a reason to not buy it)

This car was the only car I found that was exactly what I was looking for - a practical sports car. I wanted something that was fast and fun to drive, but that could also fit more than two people and could be driven in the snow since I live in CO. That's why I narrowed my choices to only vehicles with 4 doors and either front or all wheel drive (and eventually ruled out FWD drive because there are too many good cars that offer AWD). NO other car fitting this description even CAME CLOSE to this one. This car is very FUN to drive and handles extremely well even in rain (haven't had a chance to try it in snow yet but am anxious to). Obviously, there are cars faster than this one (though not many as this car will take most Mustangs, Eclipses, Camaros, etc.) but most of those that are affordable are rear wheel drive and have only 2 doors. Besides near top notch performance and handling, this car also has one of the most attractive interiors I have seen - a great combination of sporty and luxury (I have black with grey birdseed trim - a very nice contrast to my imola yellow exterior, also a great color). I also like the uniquenss of the red interior lights - very cool difference to everything else out there. This is the only car that I own and I always look forward to driving it. I have driven it in the Rockies and it takes hills almost as if it were covering flat land. This car is great for people who want a practical car but who also like to drive FAST. I consider myself an aggressive driver and this car fits my driving style like a glove. Overall, I AM VERY SATISIED WITH THIS CAR.

Similar Products Used:

BMW 330xi - big disappointment. The S4 puts this car to shame performance-
wise, and quattro is far more advanced that whatever BMW is using
Audi A4 - even this car is more fun to drive than the BMW 330xi, but it has
weak low end torque and the interior leaves much to be desired
VW Passat 4Motion - nice interior but performance is way behind the S4
Nissan Maxima - not as much fun to drive and uses FWD instead of AWD
Subaru Outback Sedan - Very nice car, good for sport utility but not nearly
as fast as the S4 (though not intended to be)

Strength:

Power, AWD, interior, stealth appearance, no expense maintenance plan.

Weakness:

gas mileage, brake dust, slightly mushy shifter

Best balanced sports car in the US when you consider price, power, features, practicality and AWD. A bit of a gas guzzler, and pain in the butt brake dust, but otherwise it's been a smooth ride sofar.

Similar Products Used:

Acura integra gsr- better shifter and mileage but otherwise no contest. also looked at BMW 330is, lexus is300, acura cl/tl type-s
