I cannot wait to get rid of this van. It continually pulls to the left and toyota says there is nothing wrong. Tune ups pricy and they don't ever finish what they are supposed to. Now brakes squeek on top of it. Next vehicle is a lexus or volvo where you get service after you buy I paid enough to get good service but toyota is just a big rip off!!!

Strength:

Good Drive Comfortable

Weakness:

Squeals when the rear seats are folded down Should have rear seats fold into the floor (like Odessy)

Initially the car ran pretty well for about 7000 miles, then brakes began to squeal. We had problems with the passenger sliding door which jams and is hard to open at times from the inside. At about 52000 miles, the ABS failed..or the light remains on. Per the dealership, the cost of repair is at leat $1200. At 57000, we had oil leaks. While the car runs well, problems like ABS failure is very irritating. DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE SUCH A ABS FAILURE PROBLEM???

Strength:

comfort overall reliability resale (hopefully)

Weakness:

Poor dealership/corporate support for my brake problems Not enough power Power driver seat doesn't have enough settings.

The van is pretty good, not great. Biggest complaint is the local dealership...Red Holman Toyota in Westland MI. Only lingering complaint is the rear brakes squeal after about 3K miles and have to be resurfaced. Now I am out of brake to grind and Toyota tells me they have no solution...does anybody else have this problem...any success stories...if this can't be fixed it will be my last Toyota of any kind...the Honda Accord is my next car!

I bought my Van as a Lease Return. Love it. I preform my own maintenance every 3000 miles with oil that is on sale and with after market filters. No smoke or sludge. I have 95,000 miles with no down time. The driver side sliding door has occasionally stuck but can count the amount on two hands.

Strength:

Good Highway Cruiser except in rain or snow. Tends to hydroplane. Confortable seating.

Weakness:

Not much power. Multiple Equipment problems. Poor parts availibilty up to 8 weeks. Hydroplaning. Might be too light in the backend. Poor paint quality.

Multiple Problems. We had problems with the drivers side pasenger sliding door not opening. Problems with the drivers side window switch console coming loose. Was repaired once came loose again and waited for 7 weeks for a part only to have the wrong part ordered. Rear seats not latching securly to the floor. Noisy engine. Vibration in wheels. Rear Door pull coming apart. Waiting 8 weeks for a part. Several other parts falling off. Pretty bad for most of the time one passenger highway use. Paint was an issue. Car had some chips in the hood from being parked by the side the road in the deealer lot. Had more paid chipping off. Finally they put a clear coat on it to protect the paint. Previous van I owned did not have this problem. Not too happy with Toyota. Traded in for a Foord Escape love it!

Strength:

Strong engine and smooth transmission. Quiet and soft ride. Great standard equipment(V6 engine, front and rear A/C, and CD player)

Weakness:

More leg room for rear passengers is needed.

I have owned 3 Dodge Caravan before I bought this Toyota. The last 2 Caravan gave me nothing but problems. After my last caravan's engine started to leak for the second time I decided to get a new minivan. We chose the Sienna because of Toyota's reputation for quality and we haven't been dissapointed. The sienna provides a smooth and quiet ride and great gas mileage. I highly recommend this minivan to anything. I have owned mine for almost 3 years and I have had no problems. Now I am thinking of upgrading to a 2003 Sienna LE.

Strength:

Good power and handling. Just don't carry any people or cargo.

Weakness:

Inoperable sliding doors. If anybody out there has fixed the problem please let me know how it was done.

Great van. Just can't believe the lack of quality from Toyota. Power door won't shut. No problem. We have turned off the power and have gone manual. Now the drivers side rear passenger sliding door will not open. Dealer said take it to a body shop. From what I have heard about Toyota dealers I am not suprised.

Engine. Company.

We bought our Toyota in 1999. Ran into the famous "sludge" problem. We got the run around from Toyota and the dealer. Unfortunately, we ran into the problem before the company came clean and began to deal with it. We too were told that we were "bad owners" because we had done all of our own oil changes and did not keep receipts for the oil and filters. We performed the changes religiously, every three months that we owned the car. But that was not enough for Toyota. They wanted us to prove the oil changes, even though they knew that these problems were turning up regularly in vehicles that had been well cared for. Rather than wait for a total engine failure while Toyota pulled its head out of you know where, we traded the vehicle. Other than the engine problem, we liked the car. Too bad I have now lost faith in the product and the company. I will never buy another Toyota!!!

We had the same problem in our 2000 Sienna. My experience as a mechanic told me something wasn't right. We were first turned own for warranty repair, told it was our fault, not enough oil changes and that the ones I did at home did not count. Then a letter arrived from Toyota Canada saying they would do the repair if we could show we had one oil change done per year of ownership. We could and they repaired the engine. The mechanics told me when I was inspecting the engine that these engines were cooking the oil so the solvents that keep the oil fluid and lubricating evaporate due to the high heat - hence the sludge. I took picture of the disassembled engine and in my 25 plus years of experience had never seen anything so bad in 200,000 miles let alone 50,000 kilometers or 30,000 miles. We received a second letter from Toyota warranty advising us that the warranty had been extended to 8 years from 5 on the engine repair unlimited mileage. So why would Toyota repair the engine when they first told us we were negligent, lower the required frequency of one oil changes to one per year of ownership, and then extend the warranty to 8 years on this repair if there wasn’t something fundamentally wrong with the design of the engine? Almost all oil sold meets or exceeds standards for oil quality and performance etc. The dealership doing it is no different than the quick lube place or you doing it at home. Toyota Canada and I suspect Toyota USA use this, we didn't do it so it doesn't count as a smoke screen hoping their ignorant ill informed customers will go away.

Rides like a dream, no engine problems (yet).

Weakness:

Power door has unprogrammed twice; driver window motor shorted out; passenger seatbelt light comes on randomly. Dealer fixed door and window; no fix for passenger belt light yet.

Fabulous van, have loved the way it drives and all the room! I have a small business which travels; since all the seats come out in back, it works great for that!
